Fpm 2013

I am sending my application today for IIM A. Have applied for two specialization- Finance and Business Policy. Though I am able to justify Finance as my specialization, I am not able to justify why I am also interested in Business Policy. Would it affect negatively my application for Finance?

@ankur_ibelieve

if the question is asked in application form, it must have some bearing when ur application is considered...
now just hope for the best and be prepared to answer why u applied to bp along with finance in interview if u r selected for interview stage...u need to have clear answer...

all d best...

@ other aspirants...
u need to have some orientation towards the specialization before u apply...this is not like mba where u answer that i will enter and choose the best u feel at the end of first year....here u need to justify why u r selecting a specific area...

I have finally managed to get my recco from profs on time. seems tough when you are away from insti for a long time. Forum has been helpful and pointed out well in advance.

There was an earlier question on full time vs part time phd....

I am not sure a part time phd can do justice to the rigor required. If you wanna make a good job out of anything, give it your full shot!

For applying to what all IIM we need recommendation/reference letter from Profs???

I know about IIM Indore.... any other???

Which IIM is the best for research in the field of finance? And also in strategy? Please let me know!

Is there a provision for part-time Phd or external registration at IIMs? plz reply

Hey Guys, Any thoughts/inputs on the potential of newbie IIMs?? Though they are offering the most competitive stipends, the infrastructure and the quality of mentor-ship will be a serious question.. any thoughts??

IIM Indore, XLRI and MDI have Exec FPM. Not sure about the rest. But even in these institutes you will require certain number of years of workex.

If you are looking for corporate placements, they may not be a good idea to get into because you can never predict what the placements will be like for such new institutes after 4 years. However, if you are planning to get into academics, the professor under whose guidance you do your research matters more. Some of the new IIMs have some extremely good professors. But do find out whether they would want to take up doctoral students before you take admission. Another thing which has been observed is all things being equal, in academics, institutes prefer to hire doctoral students from institutes which have similar or higher standing compared to the hiring institute. You may want to keep that in mind. If you do stellar research, this won't matter.

Well I will never come to know how to ask a question in a post....feels weird always...but my dilemma goes like this....i am a final year student and my graduation aggregate will end up around 70...ssc-86,hsc-88. I have given my cat....lets just say I end up getting an exceptional score.....what are my chances ???

I am really interested in research and if i were to choose between a finance profile with a fat paycheck and anything pertaining to research in finance, i would definitely choose the latter....i know that freshers are eligible and i stand a chance and all that....but i really want to know the naked truth ....do they even heed freshers????what is the intake and what is the percentage of freshers?i know its irrelevant but still.........u know.....
Is it worth a shot??
Should I apply??
Or just stfu n gear up for an mba??
Pleaaaassseeeeee help!
@cn22 There is another way of knowing the 'naked truth'. Go to each institute's website and go to the current students section under FPM. The names and in some cases, the profiles, will be listed. Check out the profiles either on IIM website or on Linkedin. You will get an idea.

From what I know, finance is one of the most competitive areas. But, if you apply widely, you should get an admit.

Also as @drish has said many times, if you apply, you may get rejected or selected. If you don't apply, you will never know the result. So, the best idea is to apply and hope for an admit.

has anybody applied to IITD?
