Fpm 2013

@Aspirant120191 If you are really serious about a career in academia, why don't you apply to IIMB this year? The application deadline is 31st Jan. I am not an expert but I think you have a good chance of being invited for an interview, given your profile and CAT score. Why don't you give it a shot?

Besides IIMB, IIMs Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong and Calcutta (deadline for IIMC is today) are still accepting applications. Even if you are targeting only A, B and C you can still apply to the others to get a first hand experience of the process so that you are better prepared in case you need to apply next year.
@sikusantanu I apologise for my mistake , nobody has any intention to mislead any one in this forum and I hope we all achieve what we have set out to do
@amitmohapatro I am surely not an expert in answering the question u have posted , however my profile is almost similar to yours and I think the only question which will make or break yr interview will be why leave a lucrative Corporate career to pursue something which is time consuming , not so rewarding as yr Current Corporate standing etc.....the honesty you display in answering these questions would IMHO decide whether u get an admit or not .......I think the people sitting in for the interviews know this pretty well that they do not want to waste money on candidates who are not passionate about research and academics and if they get just a whiff of a casual approach towards the programme , they wont select a candidate
@sb29 : thank u so much...

@invban On the contrary I believe, people who forego lucrative corporate career to join FPM would have a genuine interest. Why else would they choose a path that is financially less rewarding, work wise stressfull and reward wise modest.
@amitmohapatro from another angle your argument too is valid , however as I mentioned earlier I was predicting just from the angle of the interviewers ........they would naturally have this question in mind and would like to know what is that you will bring to the table .....also the thing is , assuming that you take the plunge and get admitted to the PhD programme and then after 2 years you feel disenchanted (this is not my personal view , this i have researched from the various forums of PhD aspirants) .......and quit the programe , from the experience standpoint being in the IT industry for 10 years u can always get in even after 2-3 years so in that way your "exit barriers" are low and if one does that , it gives a financial hit to the programme , so if I am an interviewer I would be cautious on that front .......
PS ----- strictly my personal views , pls go by yr convictions :)
@invban Thats a valid argument. I believe the research proposal / preparedness and home work that is exhibited will be able to convince on the conviction in the chosen path

hi...today i got mail from iim rohtak regarding fpm..can u tell me wat is cut off for various iims and for which iims date is still there???

@binny1280 Cut offs vary depending on profiles. If you are serious about the program, then don't worry about the cut offs and go ahead and apply.

IIMs Bangalore, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Rohtak and Trichy are still accepting applications.
@invban People do have individualistic preferences & choices, and i acknowledge the fact that everyone is entitled to a personal opinion which no one should challenge! I personally know a couple of profs. who have done their MSc-PhD from INSEAD...and whatever u have posted here is very true (about their programmes). I wish u all the very best...cheers :)
@invban @amitmohapatro

You should also take note that business schools abroad prefer PhD applicants with relatively less work experience and who are relatively young.
@invban Nothing to do with scholarships actually. In most of the fields, the research done abroad is purely theoretical and abstract in nature. Sometimes the research being done does not even have any current practical relevance. It takes almost 10 years for research to get into textbooks and more than that to get into actual practice. It has been seen that people with higher work experience/industrial knowledge do not find this theoretical research appealing. once they get in. Their constant complain is "this is not how it is in real world". This is the main reason. If a person can demonstrate the capability for abstract thinking, then age doesn't matter actually.
@dd2013 : Thanks for the heads up with IIMC..managed to apply at the last minute..
:)
Just wanted to confirm a point reg. FPM:
"When one fills up FPM programs while registering for CAT, one doesnt really get a "call" for FPM, but does actually needs to apply separately with the CAT score."
Is this correct?
@Aspirant120191 Yes that is correct. Even if you select FPM programs during CAT registration, you have to apply to each program separately.

Good luck!
@Aspirant120191
@dd2013 is correct...u will need to apply separately with ur research briefs, SoPs and Reco. letters!!

hi i m quite new here.. some say Fpm is considered equivalent to ph.d and some not....which is a better choice?...does doing a ph.d teaching more recognised than spending 4-5 years in fpm.. what is ze difference. Please clarify my doubt.Thank u!!

i agree that doing fpm as a rigourous course against ph.d is an added advantage, but why is it not equally recognised? in what way it is subordinate in recognition against ph.d

Hii every1 !!
I would like to share my profile:
CAT: 97.27 (QA: 97.93, VA: 90.91)
B.Tech: 74.34 (CS)
12th: 74.20
10th: 88.80

Can any1 suggest whether FPM is a better option than PGP ?? Should I go for FPM in top IIMs rather than PGP from subordinate colleges ??

@akashyap45 I hope you know that FPM is a 4-5 year PhD level program aimed at research and academics whereas PGP is a industry oriented 2 year program. So, it depends on what you want to do in life. Doesn't it?
@sb29 yeah, it does !! But the fact is that I am not sure of getting any of the topmost colleges at this score. Moreover, I haven't got any work experience. I haven't got a call from any of the older IIMs as well, which I wanted. So I had to ask if it were likely that I applied to some older IIMs for FPM and I got a call ? I am ok with both the programs.
