FRM Level 1- May 2011

Hi,
First of all congratz for clearing FRM in one attempt. I wanted to confirm
1. If someone attempting FRM 1 & 2 in one sitting and clear level 1 but fails in 2. Does it still have to attempt level 1 again or level 1 wll be considered as cleared?
2. How tough it gets to attempt both level in one sitting?
3. Do you think scheweser material is sufficient to clear exam or I need to refer some other material also?

Thanks...

the thing is u can clear l1 only or you clear both. So that means u can't clear l2alone
well in terms of toughness if u hv some knowledge
of stats and econometrix or are comfortable with maths
then l1 should not be a problem
l2 on the other hand is more theoretical so needs more
reading with revision
and yes doing schweser religiously with the questions from past frms would suffice
i hope i have helped
in case u have more queries please feel free to communicate
i would be more than happy to help..
Cheers!!

GKRM,

Thanks a lot for your prompt response. I was wondering if you guys have some links to FRM material such as Core FRM because I am planning to back my schweser learning with core material.

Thanks...

No I dont have core material.
But yes i do have the reference readings for L1.
I will try sending them to You in two three days if u need them...
What I will suggest is that core material is too much tome stuff and rather wasting ur time on it you should do schweser twice thrice or even 4 times and trust me u should come out in flying colours.
Cheers!!!

I did schweser reading for 7 chapters initially but I didn't got the feel of FRM. But when I did the same thing in core material, It was lot more interesting and I was better able to connect on why I am doing this thing.

Thanks a lot for your advice. I will surely focus more on Schweser material to clear exam and a brief reading of core material to get a feel.

i guess u have sorted it out correctly for urself and it should work fine.
my only thing against core readings is they eat a lot of time and as the time starts nearing it starts getting over u.
i know schweser would not be clear on first reading it was the same for me.
but i will advise not to go to the bottom of the things so as u sink in them... :)
rather i would suggest just read casually the first time like you read a magazine say or may be a text lesson. and when u do so just make small notes or underline stuff.
do this asap and go back again n may b again. Things open themselves when u keep visiting them and thats hw it works and worked for me.
Cheers!!

Puys, I was registering for FRM Part I Nov 2011 today. I am 2011 pass-out and have currently deferred my joining till nov/dec. What do I write in these
fields?

* Employer/Affiliation
(Please enter full company name.)

* Job Title

* Department

* Area of Concentration

* Number of Years Working in Risk Management

-What are the suggested readings for FRM Part-I?

-Do we need the FRM Part-I books(Complete set of 4 individual books)? But then they cost an extra $250.

-Will Schweser notes be enough? Will they be different for Nov Part-I? Where can I get them? How much do they cost?

-Which calculator do I need to get?

-How much time does one require to commit before taking the exam?

-How many sections are there in the exam?? Are there any sectional cut-offs?

-How much credit-limit should my card have to make the payment? Is it possible to pay by debit card?

Please help.

In Mumbai Texas Instruments Calculators are officially sold by Rank Enterprises. Tel no: 022 2430 8104 or 022 2437 0039. You can contact them directly and check if they deliver in Delhi.

I purchased BA II Plus Professional from them directly for Rs 2700/- (with certain discount given by them).

I am a candidate in the FRM Level 1 exam for the Nov 2011 sitting. I started studying since July 2011. I am both a CFA and CAIA charter holder

The purpose of this post is to solicit opinion from current FRM candidates as well as FRM charter holders of their experience and views. While I share my FRM study experience, it is not meant as a complain but rather to check if there are others who share similar views

1) The FRM program has expanded so much in scope, breadth, and depth, that it has become OVERWHELMING in terms of the amount of materials to study as well as to memorize (eg formulas) for the exam

2) The Practice Exams (especially 2011) has become so difficult that it doesn't seem to link sufficiently well with the readings. Even when I compared a difficult exam question with the original core readings, the material in the core reading is not sufficient for me to get a good grip on the subject matter in order to answer the question successfully

3) The exam has become more difficult, with two sittings. if you compute the probability of passing both levels 1 and 2 at the same exam sitting. This is to compare apple with apple, ie. one sitting at Nov 2009 and prior

4) The practice exams are not well written. Often there is no indication whether the interest rate is continuous or discrete. With the emphasis on accuracy, and the way multiple choice questions are written, if you don't obtain the same answer as one of the choices, not because you didn't know how to compute, you might answer it wrongly

ok, enough for now.

views / opinions, please. thanks

hey all...i am appearing for L1 in Nov. so can anyone provide link or pdf for final review guide of schweser..
