bhai , believe me , the last degree in the world that can go waste is B.Tech . No offense to other degrees or courses , but engineering is not just a degree , it is a way of life. And yes brother , you are right about the improving markets , and freshers have great opportunity these days , as all of the companies have started a hiring spree . You definitely have an advantage as a fresher because you are still fresh and the company can train you in whatever domain it wants to. This is a scenario where having work ex can count against you . I have experience in .net windows applications development and the trouble is only about 20 % of .net work is windows related, whereas the rest is web related.
I can suggest that while waiting for CAT results you start uploading your resume on job portals . Even if you have a job in hand nobody is gonna force you to join yaar . Agar CAT mein is baar convert ho gaye achhi jagah toh awesome , otherwise work for a year which is also gonna be awesome, and screw the billi next year .
and bhai B.Tech kabhi waste nahi jaati , always remember.... B.Tech sirf padhhna nahi sikhaati , jeena bhi sikhaati hai !

Tooooooo good!! Liked it from core,...
hi guys,
Read this thread and found that most of us have similar stories to tell.
I got kicked out of my company for sticking out like a sore thumb, was expecting a call from fms but didnt get one.I had got kicked out of my company for sticking out like a sore thumb and for demonstrating my love for the company without mincing any words, got defamed for harnessing fondness for an office colleague.
I was just thinking of ways to vent out my frustration in pune,so one fine morning got up determined ,went to a a village chowk and threatened a localite over a trifle.Battled with 5 guys,of whom 3 were armed with sticks.Fought well no doubt. But was outnumbered.Ended with a ruptured eardrum, bruised ribs and a bruised laptop.
Now really at peace cos the thought of having to live with impaired hearing made me forget my other troubles for a while.Problem ke liye bara problem,WTF
Ur the man!! I sincerely hope your ears become virgin again!!
Moral of the story is great...."Problem ke liye bara problem,WTF"!!
This is true boss....We need to be calm when in sh*t...
Hey Puys,
I'd like to say something here...
Never ever do an MBA for the following reasons or else you may land in the same situation u r now in:
1. For a degree
2.Because you don't like your present job
3.Because you are going to get a huge salary.
Do an MBA when you are truly interested in management or have passion for finance, marketing,hr and ....
This is what I have learnt..
And for the guys who are frustrated..here goes my profile (not a gr8 one):
X : 85%
XII : 89%
B.Tech: 81.3%
Currently working in TCS..
A job in which you need not apply your brains just use keys like Ctrl-C,Ctrl-V,Ctrl-X,Alt-Tab.
Got frustrated and resigned even before I have a call or another offer(a very bold step) but I'm sure I'll do what I want frm now on..
So don't give up.Just make sure what you want from life and you'll really be on the top..
Like Aamir Khan said in 3Idiots "Success ke peeche mat bhago, knowledge ke peeche bhago, success jhak maar ke peeche pad jaayegi"
With success I'd like to add money also..
Hope this post helps someone...

Hi Mate,
Don't feel dejected. Always take out something from whatever you do in life. You already have appeared for many exams so I am sure u might have learned something from it. There might be some fault in your learning methodology.
Figure it and rectify. Make sure you don't commit the same errors again. It's not the call its the dissatisfaction that is troubling you.Don't focus on results just focus on the process and enjoy it.
In my perspective just focus on one exam. When you know know that you have other options then you start thinking of the next time and won't prepare seriously. Just focus on one exam like a LASER beam and I am sure you will make it some day.
Here is quote woth remembering "Success is the progressive realization of the worthy goal" so enjoy the process of preperation and the results shall take care of itself.
Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi GVedula and all PGuys
My situation is very much similar to you but I can't take such a bold step like yours even when i want it the most.
I'm alot frustrated and confused at the same time. Please hellp me out.
I'm working in WIPRO Bangalore and currently in Development project of one of the best Civilian Aircraft Manufacturing Companies of the world for their upcoming project (Aircraft yet to launch)
To name out everything is very impressive. But the thing is like most IT Companies I'm also doing mostly CUT, COPY and PASTE. And I'm alot frustrated doing it.
I'm facing 3 troubles in Bangalore:
1. I'm not getting good food here
2. I'm not enjoying the work I'm doing (This will be understandable by all IT people. Development Skills are not getting used)
3. I'm too far from home. Not able to adjust as all my batch mates have gone to Gurgaon (Near home)
This was about the frustration and now is the confusion:
I'm having a chance to go to Gurgaon as well but the work over there is of operational support (In lay-man terms - Call center specifically for the software developers ).
My ultimate goal is to do MBA and considering the work responsibility I feel It'll be much easier to study in Gurgaon but I'm not able to decide on it that what is the value of the work i do in the company for getting into MBA.
To show my resume that I've worked for such and such project will really help me good in switching from one IT company to another but I don't really know if it is worth the pain for getting into MBA.
I hope i've made my situation clear to you all
Is it really worth spending an year in Bangalore for this project or it won't make much difference ?
Please tell me If i need to post this topic somewhere else because the contents don't match but the heading do match. I'm very very confused and frustrated

Based on what you have written and what i understand, you want to do mba next year (june 2011). I would suggest that stay in the current job and give your best shot to mba bcoz even if you cudnt make into an mba as per your choice you still will have a branded company behind you and then you can switch plus you will get experience and salary too. If you want to go to gudgao now than i suggest that find a better or similar job profile in gudgao and then go. Dont go for a silly job and waste your time.

Yes I plan for next year only but have to appear in this year exams. Thats why confused. Had it been next year attempt i would have surely stayed in this project. Thing is i don't have time to study for mba in bangalore because of work load. But only thing stopping me here is if i am not able to clear it then i'll be in trouble if in gurgaon but here my condition is safe....as you also said it. Only thing is to who ever i've talked they say that work doesn't matter much for MBA. Its only the name of the company you've worked for.
So that's what hitting me that if work doesn't matter then why am i struggling in bangalore.

Hey Aditya...
Even i joined WIPRO Chennai through placements in June 2007..and faced same problems as yr nw...frustrated with my job...waited for the bond period and quit in Dec 2008 for an MBA...I don have a single call in my hand still...waiting for CAT results only..I may or may not make it,i dont know....I m even more frustrated but i don feel bad for tat bold step of mine...
Coming to yr issue,I wil only say tat u continue being at Bangalore cause the job u r into now does not require much effort as per yr version which wil give you ample time to prepare...If u r goin to join a new job at Gurgaon the new job and the new environment (though it may be operational support) may motivate you too much to prove yr skills atleast for a yr or so from joining which may only be a hindrance for the dream u r pursuing...tats wat i feel...
If u r getting too homesick and getting into depression,no proper food kinda things,no other solution...dont keep wavering jus go back to yr place...
ALL THE VERY BEST !!
My story in short
2009 passout. 6 months experience. Gave all exams. Only call from SCIT.
But I want to get something better by giving all exams next year.
The problem: I have a girlfriend who also is 2009 passout i.e. of my age. Her parents want me to take admission in SCIT if results come out positive cuz they want to marry us asap. Their point of view is that she has a younger sister and so want to marry off us asap.
How do I convince them that I wanna focus on my career?
I hope SCIT rejects me....
1. You have enough time in life to try to get something better (With due respect to SCIT).
2. Tell them to treat you as a son..wouldn't they want their son to give himself a chance in life to achieve something great. This shall be good in turn for their daughter.
3. Even if you do MBA later that does not change anything ...as there are many people who are married and do MBA. Many married people would do 1 year Executive MBA! Moreover you already have a job, so your chances of getting into a good B school brighten up for next time as they prefer people with Work Ex.
4. This is your life...don't let it be dictated by others. Do what your mind says is right. Take your own decision so that you wont regret at a later day.
Best of Luck!
HI! PUYS,,
HERE'S WHT HAPPENED2 ME....I HOPE U ALL CAN TAKE ANY INSPIRATION FRM IT.....N IF NY1 GUY HAS TAKEN POSITIVES FRM MY STORY,I WOULD REALLY FEEL BLESSED....
I m really inspired by yr post..And truly i appreciate u for the "fight-back" spirit you have in you that will take you places..Hats off to you cause you thought abt yr parents, their sacrifices when u were about to take some foolish decision like most of the other ppl do...Most of us dont think of our parents, the hard times they have come across and how they have overcome successfully...To bring up their children in the right way itself is not an easy task...
For all these good actions of yrs there has to certainly be a reaction..And tat way u r going to realise yr dream very soon....Jus keep looking forward for tat day and give us yr success story too here then...:clap:Cheers !
As we all know,
its not about how hard u fall, its about how hard u keep coming back, everytime u fall :clap::clap:
Never knew this kind of thread existed at PG.
Well guys..its always a dilema managing current job and 'the dream'.
I am currently working in a top indian IT company but my technical skills are still at the same level
where I started except that I have a 2.5 yrs of exp.
Guys I always had the dilema of managing work and preparing for MBA.
When CAT was round the corner never gave a damn about work, used to leave early and come late.
When I joined the IT career, I had an immediate opportunity to go at client location(Top Notch IBank) , I was confused as I wanted to prepare for CAT. Consulted seniors and I was told to choose between two things "Good job(working for 10/11 hrs) or CAT (working for 9 hours)..."
I decided to ditch the offer and thought that I would go with my dream...so prepared for my dream..
Worked very hard...results no calls...was devastated...
And the same kinda thing happened next yr also...
Now after 2.5 yrs some of my colleagues are onsite, my roomie has switched to a top IBank and is earning more than double of what what i earn ..and I still have no clear indications that would I be able to make it to a MBA collg this season..
I was totally flustered whether to switch or prepare once again...One day I was just sitting with this tension in my head..as what to do..switch job or prepare for another season..but then as I was sitting I realised that I loved my dream more than anything else...and Life is about doing what you love to do..only then you would be happy..I dont want to do MBA for money,fame...I just want to do it because I saw a dream and promised myself to achieve it whatever may come..
Just one thing...follow ur dream..dont sccumb to peer pressure...always back up ur decisions...never back down....and believe me you would be happy...because you are doing what you always wanted to do...life is tough....you will get what you want but the timing can be different..so never feel down or feel frustated....whenver in doubt close ur eyes and remember your dream...be passionate and nobody can stop you.....

BTech from IIIT-Allahabad: 8.16/10
abt 21 months experience with IBM India
my experiences with CAT:
CAT 2004:
score 99.11
calls: IIMC,NITIE
converts: NITIE
joined NITIE but later left the insti right on the 1st day ... had to loose 1 lac Rs
one incident i remember was .. i submitted by letter to withdraw my admission from NITIE and was going back to the lift. The office babu from NITIE came after me and asked "why r u leaving ?? IIM mein mil gaya kya "
I replied... "no sir mila nahin hai but milega "
and i left NITIE ....
had to face so many questions from friends and relatives "why did u leave NITIE ?? and why after taking admission ?? chhodna hi tha to pahle chhod deta "
he he he...
CAT 2005:
score 98.44
no calls....
my decision to leave NITIE was questioned again... somehow it made my resolve stronger to join IIMC :)
CAT 2006:
score 99.86
calls: BLACKI,NITIE,MDI
converts: CLIK,NITIE,MDI
In Kozhikode interview this time when i reached dadar station it started raining heavily .. it was not at all expected. I didnt know the location of the interview centre. I was running all along in the rain stopping in between and asking people abt the interview centre. Had a tough time reaching the centre. Was the only one in the GD grp who was thoroughly wet. All though running in the rain showers made me feel real gr8 and the interview went rocking ..... ๐ the proffs wr gr8 :)
so I m going to JOKA finally ... though it wud have been sweet if i had the opportunity to leave A and join C but still its a nice feeling :)
looking forward to 2 years at joka ....

Thanks alot
Just to clear it a bit more i won't be quiting wipro to join a new company at gurgaon but only changing my domain from PES to telecomm. Though everyone is saying PES is the best domain here but i am not able to get the feel of it.
the only concern here is does it matter in MBA interview what work i did in the company ? like development or support.
Hello puys... i graduated from coll in year 2009.. then did 6 months of study sitting at home, watching my other friends working for gr8 companies and some of them in good b-schools, with a hope to get decent scores this time at least (my grad also pretty much sucked).. And nw when most of the results are declared.. turns out that for me they are worse than garbage... got a call from ICFAI.. bt the reputation is virtually nothing... moreover, when i see my juniors and other people in my TIME class, i ask a question to this universe... do they even deserve to get calls... they perform well in exams.. they study just around 2 hrs. per day... they take these papers very lightly... and yet they taste the success and i can't do anything but just congratulate them and again come back to my room with bags of frustration and blown self respect... what should i do.. please help me..

Cheer up man... Like a guy said above...Every dog has his day... just know that you are not that dog yet....your time will also come...untill then check your weak points.
Its not always about the time you put in for preps. it also matters on that time and confidence you have.
I've never studied for CAT but yet i've scored 92 and 93 percentile in casual attempts.
Check your weak points where you are failing and analyse them how you can improvise rather than getting frustrated.
You only wasting your energy like this. Enjoy everything life gives you. cheers
