Profile: Engineer, 2 year work-ex
10th: 82
12th: 86
Graduation: 72
Hobbies: Table Tennis, Socializing.

Panel consists same persons as Swagat Sinha mentioned. Had chance to met him too. He is cool guy. And I suppose with innumerable calls he was quite relaxed.
GT/GD: I was in the slot where fish market happened. Infact panel stopped us by saying 'please dont shout'. I also get a chance to hear them saying ' No one has eye contact', ' all are very aggressive'. But all part of a GD. No need to mention the topic as it was same for the morning slot.
After GD I interacted with lot of people. Some came from chittorgarh, jaipur, rajasthan. Some has work ex too. Some were fresher. Some good points about GIM was discussed in order if panel asks " Why GIM??". I was looking for a gal Kritika as i knew her before. But i could not find her. I suppose she had left early.
PI: I was the 10th guy in my group to be interviwed. Asked for permission, and entered.
Me: Good Afternoon Sir (nodding to both)

Overall a very cool interview. Panel asked whatever i wrote in my CV. The guy begore me told that they would screw you. But it never happened. I enjoyed it myself.
Comments invited plssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss.

Had my GD PI at Indian Institute of Social Sciences.
I was in Panel 2 (8.45 slot). The process started with the panel answering our queries. The panel was very forthcoming in their answers and at no point were bragging about the institute. After this session we moved on to GT/PI. We were 15 and were divided in batches of two(8+7). I was in the first batch.

Our case study was same " Mercy Hospital" which has already been mentioned. The group was very well behaved and there was no fish market at all. Everyone pitched in and took the discussion forward. We couldnt conclude well enough but thats ok considering that the group was well behaved. No opening or concluding statement, Instead we were asked to write down the plan of action for the CMO. Bulleted points were allowed. On the other side of paper we were supposed to write our overall understanding of the group discussion. This bit was for written communication.
Then the next batch went in and after that PI's started.
Interviews were essentially HR and the panel was trying to understand the likelihood of candidate joining GIM. One lady was asked to sell a pen to them ( she came from BBA background). Apart from that the interviews were standard stuff.
I was asked questions like
1. How do you think discussion on case went on.
2. Why MBA after 4+ workex.
3. My package and if I have considered the monetary loss I will be incurring because of two year residential programme.
4. Why not an executive programme.
5. What if my package after MBA is just a tad higher then what I am getting now.
6. If I want to ask anything. Asked them a question. Again they were forthcoming and honest.
All in all a good session. Lets see how it pans out.

Hi everyone

Xth: 87.2%
XIIth: 92.4%

Fresher

Was in the same group where v had a case study about Mercy Hospital...N thank god ours wasnt a fish market...a very healthy discussion where everyone was given an equal chance to speak.

About the interview now...I was the first person to be interviewed today...

The first thing they talked to me about was my age...the panel seemed a bit bothered that i m only 20 yrs old right now...Then they asked for my file n then as m still to appear for my third year exams they asked me when are my exams gonna get over n when is the result expected...as m in Delhi University told them that the results out generally by july august...but then again they wondered bout how will i submit my degree...told them about provisional and stuff!!

Ok then came the general questions
Family backgrond
Why MBA?
Where do you see youself 5 yrs down the line?
Then asked about my fav subject...answered game theory n then had a few ques on that.
Also asked about another graduation subject econometrics. (was able to answer correctly)
Next question was about my view of the budget
The Sub Prime Crises and why is it such a big deal?
Asked me wheather i have been able to take tough decisions n give an example.
Also asked me about a project of which i had mentioned in my CV.

Was able to answer all the above to my satisfaction.
And ya they asked me for the reason of low quant score (overall 98.2 n quant 41)
Expalined.

So overall a chilled out experience. What do u think seniors???...is being 20 yrs n a low quant score gonna ruin my chances???

kritika87 Says

hey kritika, i'm no senior, but i'm sure no-one's ever been hampered by being young.
as far as the quant score is concerned, i don't think it will make much of a difference.
anyways, the interview is over now. it was nice, so just chill. :D:D

Moderaters/Interviewers :Mr.Ajith Parulekar,Ms.Divya Singhal

The GD was a case sudy, here is a rough sketch of it
"Mahesh is a general store owner,he is known for his quality and loyal customer base.He recently introduced a card to give credit.5% surcharge after a month.90% customers converted to the credit card. The cash wasn't recovered. So he had to borrow at 12% interest. What should Mahes do at this juncture?"

Opening statement were allowed to be amde and may be 10 minutes discussion after that.Atleast 3 people started at any given point, thouh it wasn't fish market per se.Few points were made but few were ignored :(.The GD was stopped by the moderater and closing statements were allowed
Summary was to written in some 2 mintues, were informed that this was to test to test writing skills rather than content .

PI:10 minutes
Questions:
Tell me about yourself
How did chemical engineering help you with your job?
What is fluid mechanics
-Viscosity was brought up by me in between-
Does viscosity decrease with increase in temperature?
What was your job responsibility?
What do you do in your free time?
What is the most different book you read?
What other calls do you have?

As there was a time constraint,i couldn't eloborate as i wished...so i advise to reply with sentneces which give the gist and then eloborate if possible

*Ma'm was really cheerful, had a good effect on the applicants :)

PS-If no more expereinces are posted from my batch,i will try to compile the questions which were asked to different candidates that had PI before me

hey fera,
wat time did the process start and how long it took to complete it..... wat was the common dress code ??? and pls share with us the other interview experiences as well..

No need dude..Its not compulsory

has neone been asked for the CV?

Venue- YMCA, Mumbai
Graduation:Bachelor of Mass Media
Work ex - 2 yrs: Public relations and Market research
Moderaters/Interviewers :Don't remember the names :-|

We were 7 in the group, a case based GD as expected...

'Mahesh is a general store owner,he is known for his quality and a special credit card facility that he gives to his loyal customer base.5% surcharge after a month.90% customers converted to the credit card. The cash wasn't recovered coz people kept buying on credit without paying up.So he had to take a loan at 12% interest. So now what should Mahesh do at this juncture?'

Everyone was to make an opening statement and then we were given about 10 minutes for the discussion. It was a very calm group... I'd even say that we were quite 'thanda'... everyone seemed to agree with everyone and the discussion was very friendly, not aggressive and nothing like what's been told to most of us at our coaching classes. After the discussion was over, we were asked to give a concluding statement in the reverse order (of the opening statement) and then were asked to write down our opinions on how the GD went according to us, in 4mins. I'm pretty unsatisfied with everything that happened in the GD... though I had these lil monologues in between where I was the only one talking... (felt weird no one interrupting in the middle)

PI:20 minutes (probably my longest interview till date)

Questions:

  1. How did you get to know abt GIM?
  2. On what basis did you select colleges for applying to?
  3. Which other colleges have you applied to?
  4. Where are you working?
  5. What's your job profile?
  6. What's qualitative research, what do you do?
  7. Tell me about your latest project? (spoke about this for about 5 mins ... they were pretty interested in listening though)
  8. You have a low quant score in XAT... why is that? ( told them honestly that I didn't study... I'm still surprised how I got 95% overall coz with the kinda work profile, I never got the time to study)
  9. what other calls do you have? (told them abt SPJIMR)
  10. If you got both, which one would you prefer? ( said SPJIMR)
Chatted a lil more about consumers and their expectations..they seemed pretty happy with all my answers... and finally after 20mins they said "OK Sonal, Thank you!!" :pause: "But that means if we select you, you still won't come to our college!!??!!"
(Me and my big mouth.."No sir nothing like that...In fact I'm sure I will coz I don't have much hope from SPJIMR anywaz...") Both laughed and said bye!!

I'm still wondering that that last bit of the conversation was all abt... good..bad... ugly??!! Whateva... Thankfully it's over!!:satisfie:

Hope my experience helps you guys!! All the best!!!

Cheers!!
Sonal

We were spilt into groups of 8 each. I was in the second group.
Case Study: Mahesh shopkeeper..
Had a good discussion where quite a lot of points were discussed and agreed upon by the group. Then the written summary.
Then the PI. Just sit back and enjoy.
Professor calls me in. I wish them good afternoon and take a seat.
Professor 1: P1(the one with a beard)
Professor 2: P2(Anirban Sengupta)
P2: So Hitesh what does your name means.
Me: Explained that to do good to others.
P2: So have you got a chance to do good to others.
Me: yes Sir couple of times.
P1. So how was the GT?
Me: It was good Sir.
P1: Do you think your group was able to come to a conclusion.
Me: I think Sir the whole group agreed upon 3-4 points but the conclusion could have been better.
P1: Ok how was your performance.
Me: I think it was good.
P1: On a scale o 1-10 how will you rate your performance:
Me: Sir 7- 7.5
P1: Where do you think you lost marks?
Me: I think I could have added to the conclusion a bit more. Gave an example of a guy sitting next to me made a point and I could have presented it more appropriately infront of the group.
P1: So do you think that you listened to others.
Me: Yes Sir. Gave example where I was in agreement during the GT along with the group.
P1: So what do you think of others. Did they displayed listening skills.
Me: I think Sir most of them did.
P1: But there were couple of instances where they were not listening and more concerned about talking.
Me: Yes Sir there were.
P1: (here he gives his opinion) I think most of the guys are taught to perform in a GD in a similar way that you should anyhow put your point and forget about the rest. I think that's not good.
Me: Sir I think it's got to do more with performing on THE day.
P1: hmm(nodding his head)
P2: So you are with BA Continuum. You know that people passed out from GIM are working there.
Me: Yes Sir I have checked my companie's name in your recruiters list on the website.
P1: Are you based in Gurgaon.
Me: Yes Sir
P1: How much time does it take from your home to office.
Me: Sir it takes only 40 min now since new flyovers have come up. Earlier it used to take more than an hour.
P1: Asks for my file.
P2: So tell us something about your job profile in BA
Me: Explained in detail.
P2: Some specific questions:
Me: Answered.(In the mean time P1 had scanned my file completely)
P1: So what was your nature of the job in IBM:
Me: Explained.
P1: Did you got a chance to work with the Americans directly.
Me: I got a chance in BA. Explained about the Lean project I was involved in. Both profs listening intently.
P1: What things a todays Manager should have?
Me: Mentioned 3.
1: Good people management skills- Explained in detail
2. He should be organized - Explained with an example.
3. Good communication skills- Explained
P1: Some specific question regarding the communication skills.
Me: Explained how it is important in todays globalised world.
P1: Tell me an instance where others thought you cannot do a thing and you did it. May be from the school.
Me: Gave an example from the school.
P1 Corrected me where I used wrong grammer.
P1: Making a comment on my present company. I think your company only gives certificate and does not pay you well(I had Jan payslip in the file)
Me: Defending my company. Sir we do have incentives but you have to perform at certain level maintain that to get them. But I would agree that the basic is low. (P2 was laughing)
P2: So why do you want to leave your job and do MBA.
Me: Sir I think it will give me the power to choose. Explained what I meant by that. Also mentioned about the strong alumni base GIM has which would help me.
P2: Looking satisfied.
P1: Give me an example where you have shown perseverance.
Me: Explained with an example in my present company.
P1: Not happy. Said this shows your creativity and other skills and not perseverance. He said anyways leave it.
P2: Your Maths score has been low in Graduation. We have stats and similar subjects in GIM. How will you cope with it.
Me: Sir all I can say is that I cannot change the past. Moreover I improved in my final year. Also I mentioned how I have performing exceptionally well in all the 3 companies I have worked for and the certificates are the testimonial for that. So I have proved myself in all the 3 companies I have worked for where everything was new initially and I mastered that and contributed to the betterment. I stressed upon my present job where I was in the pilot batch and how I have contributed in streamlining the process.
P2: Seemed convinced. So what other calls you have.
Me: Sir I have XIME and hoping to get Welingkar.
P2: Not many choices.
Me: Sir whatever choices I have, I have to make best use of it.
P1: Looking at P2
P2: Do you want to ask us anything.
Me: Sir I have gone through the website so I am ok.
They said thank you.
(Guys now the unexpected part. I thanked them and got up from the seat. Then suddenly..)
P1: Hey Hitesh could you please suggest us some good place from where we can buy Tie's in bulk. (I think he liked my tie and asked me this question to know which brand I was wearing)
Me: Sir you can go to Ansal Plaza Mall or you can go to Gurgaon. It is 30 min drive from here and there are couple of good malls there where Sale is going on. You will get good discount. Also Sir I am wearing a Parx (Raymonds) tie. I can suggest few more brands(I suggested Van Huesen).
P1: Looking at my face and listening.
Me: Sir by the way for what occasion you need them.
P1: Oh we need them for birthday gifts.
Me: Oh ok then you should go to Gurgaon where you get a good deal.
P1 and P2: Thank you Hitesh
Me: Thanking both of them and came out.
I think it was close to 40 min interview. I think I am missing few more questions which were asked. Anyways this was about my interview. Seniors suggestions welcomed. What you guys think of the above.
Cheers
Hitesh

The Group task was the same as Sonals, had to help Mahesh out
The Group task was really chilled out , everyone was giving the other one time to speak.
Gave around 4 points in the GD. then summed it up saying that the GD had reached a concensus and everyone seemed to be satisfied with the decison. Gave the short term goals and long term goals as discussed in the GD what mahesh should adopt, Finally made a statement, If Mahesh adopts my teams stratergy he will surely be out of trouble

PI was taken by Sarita Dsouza(P1 , really cool mam) and Mihir(p2)
Sarita was the senior among the two I feel.
PI was for around 15-20 mins , really didnt feel that way as It was more of a freindly chat.

P1 : Can we have your marksheets please?
Me: Gave them.
P2: so you work in Mangalore? very good please
Me Indeed sir, a really cool and calm place.
P2: So you have done your 10+2 from this college?
Me: yes sir, as it was close to my Residence
P2: where do you stay?
Me: Kandiavali sir?
P2: ohh where in there?
Me Thakur Complex.
P2: warm smile...came to know he was assocaited with my college.
Knew this was just the foundation needed , now it was on me to do well
P1: Any reason for your low Quant score?
Me : told them, it was just a Bad day at office
P1: So you work with Infosys?
Me:yes mam.
P1:Tell me how was the GD
Me: Told them that in real life we generlly have more time to take a Decison and that primary a reason why more if and buts mite creep in, But told them that if a solution is good enough , the team generally agrees.
P1:So you mean stakes are really high in real life?
Me: I think the stakes are really high here mam, because its one of the career defining moments for everyone here.
P1:started laughing at me
I joined a wagon and gave a smile.
P1: Tell me about your work
Me: told them that I was working as a System Analyst as of now which basically means analysing business requirements ....
P1: Good, she seems to be satisfied with the work i do.
P1: what other calls do you have ?
Me: told
P1: so which college will you join?
Me: GIM, no doubt whatsoever?
P1:why is that amit? again with a big smile.
Me : told them firstly that its surely one of the top bschools in India and went on and on for about 2 mins.
Told then that GIM is the only Bschool in the country, which has basically trnsaformed a non working Hospital to a major Bschool. they have made the best of their resources which makes me proud, Told them the seniors at Gim and the warmth assocaited with when talking to them, told them no other Bschool will offer them.
Finally ended up saying given a chance, i wll be at the Ribander gates wth all my Bags packed
They started smiling agin
P2: But you know that the final selecton is not in our hands right
Me: Yes sir
P1: How do you such a lot about Gim?
Me: my brother has studied at GIM
P1 ohh who is that?
Me: told
P1: Ohh so you are his brother..again smiling
P1: ok Amit, tell us one reason We should not select you?
Me: the first question which took some thinking ?
Me: I think the low xat score is one reason
P1: Forget the xat score, something personal
Me: Knew that there has to be some answer, I am not fo the Perfect types
Told them the i was a bit of easy going find it tough to say no to others, basically lack assertivness skills
P1: But thts important for Management
Me: Yes mam, I am working on it, it was my honest opinion.
P1:yeah it was Honest.

P1 nd P2: ok Amit thanks
Me: Thank you mam
P2: Please send the next candidate in.

As of me the interview was a chilled affair.
But surely my low XAT score will be a factor which will play a decisive role...and probably not in favour of me.

Bestof Luck for other Puys
