Do we need XAT Score card/Call letter at the time of GD/PI? Will it be an issue if i don't have it?

its always better to play safe... do carry these docs as most of the instts. do verify them during registration process for GD/PI...

Edited:

Sorry, earlier I had no idea how to subscribe to the thread without posting. It has now been pointed out later in this thread. My apologies once again.

had my XIME interview yesterday. GIM is on the 7th. posting the experience.

(experience is an experience after all )

had my XIME interview yesterday (my first interview )

XIME is in the heart of electronics city (phase 2). my slot was at 4.00 . reached there at 3.15 (somehow, after searching a lot)

entered teh campus. campus was good. the 1st year students were handling the admission process. asked for my certificates for verification. had to give them the xerox of all mark sheets till now.

finally , at 4 we were taken into a room for GD.

GD consisted of 13 people (out of which 2 were asked to come in the 1800 slot)

so finally we had 11 people who were ready for the gd (read. ready = people waiting to scream their lungs off)

the GD panel consisted of the president and two other members (faculty i presume)

we were asked by the president to suggest topics for the GD. everyone chipped in with a couple of topics. (i suggested child rights and IPL)

none of the above topics were selected , instead we were asked to discuss 'indian economy can never surpass china's'

lemme tell you, GD was a complete fish market, well, fish market would be an understatement. no mature discussions at all.everyone was screaming their lungs off without actually knowing what they were speaking .although, i must admit, three students did speak well. kudos to them. i was busy noting points. i wanted to chip in with my own points but decided against it. i was very very disappointed with others.yes, its a matter of getting into one of the good b-schools, but this is not the way to go about it.not a constructive discussion at all..

i guess, even the president was affected by this 'halla bol'. he left the room 'not so poiltely'.

(president's facial expression - is this a gd? what nonsense!)

the other panel member asked the group members to stop the discussion (finally, if he would'nt have done it, i would have done it myself)

(his facial expression - managers? ya right! )

the other panel member seemed uninterested , i dont blame him one bit.

then he asked us one by one, to summarize it in 30 secs. everyone pitched in. i too made my points heard. gave figures to support the same. was satisfied, but definately not happy. considering the events which unfolded prior to this

finally we were called in one by one for the PI.

the panel consisted of three members (the president was'nt there, i guess he had already made up his mind. i dont blame him )

me: can i come in?
panel- yes

me: good evening.
panel: GE, have a seat.
me: thank you (smiling)

p1: so, you are from kerala?
me:yes sir. (XIME was founded/co-founded by a kerliate )

p2: oh, you are doing your engineering from manipal?
me: yes

p1: so,doing your engineering in electronics and communication?
me: yes sir, final year (plastic smile still intact)

p1: so tell me, onida was taken over by which company?
me: (onida? .where in the blue hell did onida come from? at that point of time rakhi sawant's minto fresh ad came to mind ) sir, i'm afraid i am not aware about things on that front .(ya right, as if i knew he would start talkin bout onida)

p2: sony belongs to which country?
me: told

p3: temme whats GDP
me: gave the full-form, explained what it means. (they seemed satisfied)

p1: (he asked a problem related to GDP.)
me: (solved it, explained it convincingly)

p2: there was a case in which 2 electronic giants went to court over 'formant' issue. which company won finally
me: (formant? wht on earth is that?) i told him about the patent controversy between LG and sony, told him about the developments, the events which took place.)

(formants? no idea man)

p1: ok, you may leave.
me: thank you (plastic smile still intact , jaws beginning to hurt)

p1: (facial expression - thank god its over. what a waste of time)

p2: (facial expression - well done son.)

p3: (facial expression - mba? in your dreams!)

i dont know what to make of this. no questions on academics.

no questions like , why mba? career goals?

anyways, i gave my best shot.

hoping that my experience would benefit others.

cheers n regards.

had a very same experience(even the Gd topic was same) couple of weeks back......... but i think GIM will be very much different as they are lookin with people with more passion of doin MBA rather than looking out for mere numbers and know all( some questions only a super hero could answer!!!!)......... we ll get a better idea with the experiences comin our way!!!
Had my GIM GD/PI process today at Indian Social Institute, Delhi in the 8.45 a.m. slot.
My personal details are as follows
XAT Percentile: 99.84
Profile: Electrical Engineer, fresher
10th: 73.4
12th: 73.8
Graduation: 63.2
Work-Ex: NOPE!!!
Hobbies: fooTbaLL, PC games, movies(no particular order, these are my 3 passions)
Any other details: not really
Batch of Gd(GT)/PI: We were a total of 36 people(including 3-4 absentees), who were divided into 2 panels. My panel had 16 people who were then divided again into groups of 8.
Panel 1: My panel
Nagarajan Ramamurthi(N)
P. Saravanan(P)
Panel 2
Raghuvir Vernekar
Anirban Sengupta
GT/GD: The 8 of us were given a case study about a paediatric hospital that got a grant from the government for some high tech equipment. In return, the hospital had to provide free treatment to poor people. This caused a loss of profit. Cleanliness is also affected. What suggestions would we give as a group to the CMO?
We had to make an opening statement of 30 seconds each. Afterwards, 15 minutes for discussion. Then, half a minute for closing statements. Finally, we had to write down whatever had transpired in 3 minutes.
Finally, for the first time this season, a healthy discussion ensued (thank you to my group for this, as the 2nd group had a fish market in the same conditions). We discussed many points. As we had to arrive at some conclusion, we decided on 3-4 points. I gave 4 points. A satisfactory performance.
PI: I was the 4th guy in my group to be interviwed. Asked for permission, and entered.
Me: Good Afternoon Sir (nodding to both)
N & P: Good afternoon. Have a seat.
Me: Thank you Sir.
N: (Looking at the printout of the XAT details page, reading out my college, school and father's profession details) So this 60 odd percentage in your college, is it average?
Me: Yes Sir, it is an average score. Neither too less, nor too high. (Very well balanced)
N: So your father is an air force officer? What rank?
A discussion on my father's work and air force followed.
P: So you are an electrical engineerer, right? I am not an engineer. Explain two things to me. First, how is this fan working. Second, when the regulator is at 1 and when it is at 5, when is more power being used?
Me: Explained.
P: OK, so what have you been doing since June '07?
Me: Started to llok for a job, but then decided to do an MBA first as what i plan to do eventually cannot be completed without an MBA, so..
P: And what is that?
Me: Explained in detail. A discussion ensued on gaming.
P: Good. What if 2 key people in your company want to leave?
Me: I would try to find out the reasons behind their leaving, and then take necessary action.
After some more discussion on gaming
N & P: (Looking at each other) OK, that will be all. Would you like to ask us something?
Me: Sir, i am an engineer, not related to economics. Are there special classes for those who are weak after the college starts?
N: On the contrary, we have the opposite problem. People are weak in maths.
(Looking at P) Since he has asked the question, let me ask him a question of maths. What is probability distribution?
Me: First explained probability, and then probability distribution.
N: OK, so the major problem is that people don't understand maths. For them we have special classes. As far as economics is concerned, we have two core courses in the first semester itself. That should suffice.
Me: Thank you sir.
N: So what other calls do you have?
Me: Told.
N & P: That is a lot of calls.
Me: Thank you sir.
N: So if you convert all calls, where would you go.
Me: That would be a dream scenario sir. In case that happens, i would be foolish to ignore colleges like IIM -A & C and XLRI. After that, it is an open for all.
N: OK, i like that honest answer. You may go.
Me: Thank you sir.
Nice experience. Your thoughts puys.

seems to be a pretty chilled out experience....i guess the trick is to maintain ones cool huh...
