Thanks for posting ur experience..
I was wondering... Is it possible for u to elaborate on the case-study a little?
Exactly wht parameters were given for making the decisions.
Were u given any points to consider during your discussion?
Would b great if we cud get more insight into the case-study..
My interview has got to be the biggest disaster ever. I'm not expecting
a final call from GIM. Basically most of my interview went in
answering wrong answers to a jury that was determined to get me out.
The only good thing was they didn't tell me that you have no work exp
so come back after that.
The interview went something like this.
Madam: Tell me what is your biggest strength in life and how has it
helped you?
Me: My communication skills have helped me a lot and I've read a lot
right since I was a child. Blah blah
Madam: So do you think you're all about talking and no substance
Me: Ummm...no and(I gave further explanations which I now do not even
recall)
Madam: How would you rate yourself as a listener?
Me: On a scale of 1 to 10 probably about 7 (So far so good. At least I
managed to say something)
Madam: What is this multimedia certificate? Why didn't you pursue a
career in that?
Me: I pursued that as an extra curricular with my 10th and 12th and it
has helped me with my presentations and power points. I'm not good at
drawing so it wouldn't be the ideal career.
Madam: Would you say you are completely clear in your academics
Me: I am somewhat clear but I've studied so many subjects that I don't
believe I would remember everything.
NOW IS WHERE THE BAD PART BEGINS AND SIR ENTERS
Sir: How much did you get in 10th, 12th, and Graduation?
Me: Answer all and only get good good very good as an answer.
Sir: I see you have studied a lot of papers. Now you have this paper
called statistics (What did you study in that)
Me: Mean, median mode, regression, Standard deviation, scatter plots,
SPSS as a package)
Sir: hmmmmmmmmmm......What is regression?
Me: Staring blankly. Its used to depict the relation between two
variables
Sir: Isn't that correlation
Me: Yes and a scatter plot is used to depict the relation but
regression is to determine blah blah blah (basicaly I blurted out all
nonsense I guess)
Sir: ok what is an r square statistic, multicollinearity, and
homoscadascity
Me: (I look at him like he's an alien cause I know I have vaguely
studies those but in my first year and I don't remember a word) I say I
don't recall although I have studied it.
The STATS grilling continues
Sir: Ok let's move on to economics. What have you studied in
macroeconomics? I say BOT, BOP, Fiscal and monetary policies and the
international monetary system.
Sir: What is National Income
Me: (I'm so blank after the stats grilling session that for a minute
I'm wondering) Then I say Y= C + I + G which is Consumption (thinking
what I is for a minute) Then I say investment and then government
Sir: What is consumption?
Me: Consumption of the Economy as a whole?
Sir: Yes, but what exactly is it.
Me: Consumption of goods and services in the economy. (don't remember
that this does not include capital and second hand goods)
Sir: Is GDP a complete indicator of the economy
Me: No
Sir: Then why is Chidambaram focusing on it.
Me: GDP is a good indicator but it is not a complete indicator. There
are other indicators such as GNP.
Sir: Madam would you like to ask anything else
Madam: No I'm done
Sir: ok you may go. Good Day.(In other words Good bye)
hey guys,
kudos to all!!! u guys have taken lot of effort to put in all the details of ur gd-pi over here.
everyone seems to have done well.

reached the center quite early and met some cool people havin some very good work ex........ while discussin abt who s on the panel to take our interviewes, discovered that the lady staff and i share a common surname(donno whether it was good or bad)....
GT:about rajan (manager) who has to make a decision on whether to fire windell as he could possibly have AIDS , reported by other 3 employees...
der were just 6 people in the task and hence everyone got ample time, and the group seemed to reach a logical conclusion.....
interview:
i was asked to explain more abt myself.. here, had a long pause and gave some related info........ Sir asked me more abt the academic subjects and i think i gave some decent answers...... the lady staff was quite silent and was just observing wat answers i was givin( maybe she was doin face readin to verify whether i was givin genuine ansers).... Sir was insisting on me havin some work ex before i try MBA and He gave some valid points ...... he really looked very particular about it....was asked why GIM? ... i replied telling that it was just a good place to be in(did scew up a bit here).......finally had a small community realated question which I was not able to answer.........
overall it was a pleasant experience to remember.......
ps:my only query to seniors is- Does work ex play such a major role in judging a candidate???? Bcoz the panel were very particular and insisting on it....???

Hmm.. see the weightage given to work-ex for the final score is 10%. So definately its a relevant factor. Now since the performence at work-ex and the personal traits of the person need to be considered. So thats the reason why, if you are having work-ex stress is on work-ex.. Plus faculty doesnt expect you to remember your college subjects and thats the reason why for work-ex people most of the interview is based on their job experience..
Plus another thing, it was a check in your case, to see you are mentally prepared to take a job later and continue with your studies.. See the reason why faculty asked the question is only known to them... So dont worry.. the parameters remain the same
50% - XAT score
30% - GD/PI
10%- Acads
10% - Work-ex
Cheers n Best of luck
Hi Guys n Gals....
Kudos to all the seniors for clearing our queries and fellow aspirants for posting their experiences..
My experience has so far been the worst possible.. Least expectating a call from GIM. I am posting my experience so that it would be of some use for the next year aspirants.

Case Study:
"About 3 employees complaining the manager of a sales firm about the possibility of another employee Windell having AIDS. Employees raise a concern about he working with the rest and affecting the whole environment etc. "
Case study went pretty smooth as there were just 6 ppl in our group. But one guy took the whole lime lite as he could put fwd every aspect of the case study(gr8 job), but others had to repeat the points/views. I would rate my performance as a below avg one here.
Now comes the disastrous one.. THE "INTERVIEW".. (So called!!)
(S) - Sir Ajit Parolker
(M) - Divya Mam
(V) - Victim(ME)..:puppydog:
V:Can i get in
M: Took my file
S: Gives me a sheet of paper and asks me to write abt IC's
V: U mean Integrated Circuits?
S:Yes(What else d u think it can be??, I will have a nice cup of Tea n come)
V: Wrote a few lines abt it n gave
M: Ok tell me how does a Condenser work?
V: COndenser that we use in AC's and Refrigerators? (Mam, I am an electronics enggr not an electrical)
M: I dont know U tell me..
V: (This is the biggest mistake I did, I must have told I dnt have much idea abt it). I tried to answer by saying it works on the concept of variation of Pressure which would result in the variation of Temperature. I think i mistook condenser to compressor. Guys if u dont know something or nt clear say I DONT KNOW, to avoid mishaps.
M: Wat is the relation?
V: Me lik a stupid started givin PV=RT kinda relations, and said it varies linearly
M: I dont understand any, tell me in basic terms
V: Ok consider u go to higher altitudes the temp is less and the pressure INCREASES!! (Lik an idiot told it increases in spite of knowing that it decreases, got pressurised here..:()
S: Wat!! it increases? told some gyan... and I too accepted it is not so.
S: Luking at mam, do u have any other questions to ask?
M: (Gave a Not really look, But cant send this gal so soon, lets grill her more..)
M: Ok tell me why do we celebrate Woman's day on 8th March?
(Now one more disaster starts!!)
V: Mam, I am not sure wat is the reason but we celebrate womanhood and the achievements of woman despite facing lotsa pblms... blah blah.
M: (Cutting me short) But y on march 8th?
V: No idea:(
M: Dont u think being a Woman u should know, y u celebrate Woman's day today?
V: Mam for me evry day is a Woman's day
S: So when is Men's day?
V: No day..(Just to bring a lil humour and pull the interview through)
S: So we should protest against having one..
V: May be... All in smiles.
S: Ok So u worked for XX which was acquired by YY. Compare both the companies.
V: Told about how XX started its base in US..etc
S: where exactly is the head quarters in US?
V: Answered
S: Whish is the nearest famous place?
V: Answered
S: Which coast?
V: No idea about it.(Sir ab chodo bhi na...)
S: Ok continue..
V: blah blah.
M: So why did u leave ur company?
V: Told about my MBA plans and that i had to chose one amongst as work was getting hectic
M: So y did u join the next company, I mean the present company?
V: Told that I joined just 2 months bk, after finishing my xams.
S: What is the salary?
V: Told
S: Ok u may leave now.
V: (Are u sure??) ok sir, mam thk u.
So that is how my GIM dreams came to an end.
Was very disappointed with the interview. I have not been asked who am I, Why MBA, wat plans further nothing...
Basically the "I" thing was missing in the whole interview. If I dnt know how a condensor works or why March 8th is celebrated as woman's day, does that make me unfit to be a manager?? I know I am despaired.. But felt the interview could have been better.... No regrets now.
@ Seniors: Only one concern from my end. There were no co-ordinators at the place and no presentation about the college. I have seen ppl coming with tensed faces, a co-ordinator/ representative could have been there or a small presentation to make ppl more comfortable. The process started pretty soon, giving no time for anybdy to adjust. This is just a piece of my mind, hopefully it would have helped some ppl if the arrangements could have been better.
Bubye to GIM....
ATB to all, hope to c u all at some inter college fests:popcorn:.

Oki its a concern I know.. Some other colleges do hold a session for the aspirants. But that session is planned by the students. But the problem is here that the kind of work-load we people have and since our exams are in mid march its nt feasible for us to travel long distances and give presentations.
Another thing is that, faculty also can't give presentations at the start of every group because it will take a lot of time.. And if you had any queries we were here to answer... From our college's perspective we can't have a presentation session before the GD/PI ..
Cheers

I think it's more to do with the correlation between the no. of years of work-ex and how much you learnt during that period. If for eg., one has 1.5 yr experience and another has 2.5, but both their learnings are roughly the same, then the one with 1.5 yrs is given more weightage.... However, I don't really know what are the exact marks given for a particular work-ex etc...

i don think so dude, u cant judje how much a student has learned from a smal interview he has with panelist ... may be its more to do with the company u were working with, ur designation coupled with nos of years u have worked..... Me: Sir, thats not my profile.
P1: Are you pratik sethi
Me: No sir, I am Pratik XXX
P1: Oh, so u shud have been in Panel 2
Me: how do I know Sir. While calling you only said "Pratik"
P1: speaks to P2, ok since we have already evaluated him for GT, lets take the interview.
P1: starts checking my certificate. So where have u worked.
Me: gave details.
P1: asks about my percentage.
Me: told
P1: is the B.E. percentage aggregate?
Me: told, no sir its final year. thats what is considered for awarding class degree in our degree.
P1: ok. so whats the aggregate.
Me: i tell
P1: have u won any scholarship in graduation.
Me: No sir, but i have been a merit holder in SSC.
P1: oh good.
P2: so tell me something about your work.
Me: told.
Then some more question on work. dont remember exactly the questions.
P1: ok pratik so tell me what are your strengths.
Me: sir, i am focussed and very determined towards my goal.
P1: oh, thats why you were focussing towards mam while speaking to her.
Me: I just smile. (actually, P1 was seating in front of me and P2 was slightly at an angle of 45 degree)
P1: so give me an example (for the strengths I said)
Me: sir, I was focussed towards doing an MBA. so, inspite of not scoring good last year, I tried again. And was determined to do better.
P1: so did you score improve
Me: certainly sir.
P1: ok, so tell me what quality a manager should have.
Me: I said manager should know how to get things done in minimum amount of time. Should have good communications skills etc.
P1: ok so if you are a manager then you will not do any work.
Me: no sir, its not like that.
P1: allrite, so in getting things done by your team; you wont even care what problems they have.
Me: no sir, here's the communication skills play the role. I will maintain a proper communication within the team. I will listen to their problem and act accordingly.
P2: ok so which other calls do u have ( i think this question was asked earlier)
Me: sir ximb, nirma
P2: so which one will you take.
Me: ximb, but I believe in grabbing the opportunity at hand. and if ximb is 20 then gim is 19.
P2: what 20?
Me: said again ....
P2: oh ok
P2: so why gim?
Me: said some good pts about gim like faculty, placement. Also, said that selection done in gim is very transparent which leads to very diverse profile and that is very important.
P2: how do u know that.
Me: read on website.
P2: so on what basis do u select which college to apply?
Me: again told the same.....faculty, placement scenario etc.
P1: so what are your other strengths.
Me: sir, i am very straightforward.
P1: so is'nt that harmful.
Me: sir sometimes it is harmful. I may hurt someone's feelings. But, its better than saying things at the back.
P1: allrite, so what are your weakness.
Me: said same, that because of being straightforward I sometimes hurt peoples emotion....
P1: neother weakness?
Me: no sir....
P1: ok i am done. asks P2 if she asked questions about the previous company?
P2: yes i have asked.(that means P1 was not even listening.)
P1: ok pratik, you may leave and ask the next person to wait outside.
Me: ok sir, thank you.
Me: sir that goofup of name....wont it be a problem?
P2: dont worry about it...we will take care...
Me: thank you sir, thank you mam....
I may have missed some questions. lasted for around 15-20 minutes. wot say seniors....do i have chance? I am very skeptical.....
seniors, plz comment......what are my chances?
jazz_sachit Saysi don think so dude, u cant judje how much a student has learned from a smal interview he has with panelist ... may be its more to do with the company u were working with, ur designation coupled with nos of years u have worked..... Indirectly u mite say it indicates learning but i don think so...any suggestion puys!:sleepy:
No i certainly don't think that way. If that is so, then why prepare at all for job related questions, if everything on your resume is self-explanatory? Agreed, they can't actually know how much u've learnt in such a short duration but that's where ur preparation comes in. U may have learnt a lot, but if u are unable to express it well, you will lose out on the points. And if u express to their satisfaction(even if u don't know much), you'll certainly gain.....
Company name doesn't really matter I guess. Work-ex does, to some extent, but its value increases a lot if they see that u've actually benefitted from it and it's not just experience on paper.
Over to you seniors, I think you'll be able to answer this better but I think even if I may not be completely correct, I'm surely on the right track. What say Seniors???

the moment i came out of the room after my interview ,i felt tht it went off much bettr than my expectations and tht is wht i told everybdy else as well...but after thinking abt it over and over again i realized tht i gave a lot of incomplete answers ...i think they wud judge me on my thot process whch they wont find trouble doin since it was pretty much absent...
so here goes hw my interview went...
i entred with my file and sat dwn with the fiole on my lap....first professr asked me wht was bbs..i told him..then he asked me wht was my interest ..i said hr,,,he said tht u r a finance student ,then y u want to do hr nw...i told him some crap tht i cant remembr nw...then he asked me wht were my fav subjects..i said law,ob,hr,strategy, modern business...he mockingly told the other panelist tht look at this girl,,,took finance and all her fav subjects are blah blah...then he said tht u r sayin all this so tht i dnt ask u any finance ques..i told him tht finance dint turn out to b my strong area but still he may ask whtevr he wanted,,,luckily he dint...then he asked me abt my family backgrnd,.,.i told them my parents were in insurance...so he asked me wht is insurance..i said it was coverage of risk at an annual premiun tht one had to pay...he asked me thts it? i said yes coz i dint knw anythin more..he asked me abt life expectancy then..i told him wht tht meant..he asked me is it astrologically determined...i said no sir, statistcally...then he said nw lemme test u on stats,,,hw comfi r u with stats,,,i said i did it as a paper in my first yr and i am alrite with it excpt the z n f tests as i never got to practice them..he asked me i wnt to ask u somethin very simple...tell me wht is mean median mode...i answered it correctly..then he asked me wht is a bell shaped curve..i answered tht its a graph in which items are equally dispersed on either side,,,its symmetrical..also smwhr in between he had asked me abt th subprime crisis...i feel so ashamed tellin u all this tht i dint remebr wht it was but still answrred it god knws y..i just said in america, ppl with even inappropriate history of debt recovery were given loans by the banks..they dint pay up so the crisis happened(majr bulnder!!),,then he said y did hte banks do it,,was it charity..i said no sir, maybe they wanted to encourage ppl's consumption n all..no mention of the fact tht it was coz of the housing price reachin an all time low tht caused the crisis(pppplllzz someone just kill me :(......
so i feel the by askin me wht was lifexpctance after askin me abt insurance, they wanted me to realize tht insurace is dependent on LE which i dint realize,,,and by askin me abt the bell shaped curv after mean median mode, they wanted me to answer tht in a bell shaped curve,it is NORMAL DISTRIBUTION AND MEAN MEDIAN MODE ARE THE SAME IN THE CENTRE...this was the most crucial thing i shud hav mentioned in place of which i gave such a vague answer,,,..
they had asked me abt my wrk as well which ws for 2 months with hewitt associates...my wrk was to run surveys and benchmark compensations n all,..he asked me wht wud the payfor a territory manager frm a pharma company be like...i said sir, i dnt knw sir...
plzzz seniorss...lemme knw ur opinion on this...based on my interview,so u think thrs even the slightest chance of me clearin it???????

swats plz post in paras or post it the way other puys have dun it previous posts..makes it easy to read.
What say Seniors???
i think we are postin it in wrong thread, nobody is gonna ans it here.... and ya mate even i believ i'm right..lets c.;-)

My center for GIM GD\PI was IIMB(what a lush green campus, can tempt anyone to write CAT once again)
Met a puy,who happened to be my junior at college(sir_roy_keane).He is a very good chap and was talking to everyone before our GT\PI so that we don't sound nervous.
Also IIMK interviews were happening at IIMB the same day and a funny incident happened just before our GT.There was this guy who was talking to us before the interview and suddenly he got up and told all of us that he had come for his IIMK interview and realized just now that he was at wrong place.he wished us all the best and left
Now we were called for our GT process and the batch was divided into two groups.I was 7th guy in 1st group.
It was case study on a company whose employees were cheating on that company by using the office time for some other work and were also using the company resources for that. There was this particular guy who was very candid about this and was earning just 8000 bucks per month and had a newly born baby to support.
was a a good discussion as everyone chipped in with good air time and sufficiently decent points but in the end it was becoming monotonous and bell rang at perfect time. The only thing I didn't liked about the GT was that it was clearly mentioned to us that we should not waste our time in opening and closing statements talking about the general stuff but should directly come to our views and that was not followed by most of us(may be including me).wrote the summary in the end(I am not very satisfied with it:-() as I am very slow in writing.overall did a decent job by bringing decent points(some of them were taken by group)
Now came the biggest shock to me
There was this guy before me who was interviewed for just five minutes and when he came out I was telling him that I think they had taken his pic and sent him outside and the panel is going to judge him on the basis of his pic(I know lame)
My turn came and they told me to wait outside for some time.I nodded and waited outside.
Now I entered the room with their permission and greeted them.:-) with a typical smile.
P1-strict guy.
P2-Nice madam with a Colgate smile.
P1-tell me why should we take you.
Me-told them about my good academic performance throughout and extra curricular activities, was about to say something about my work-ex.but he cut me short.:-
P2 checked my file and came across satellite communication and optical fiber as one of the subjects.
P2-tell me about satellite and optical fiber.
Me-told her about both.mentioned about total internal reflection in OF communication
P2-do the landline uses OFs
Me-after some thinking told her that broadband does but not the landline telephone cables.she nodded.
P1-tell me difference between bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
Me-told something:-
P2-what other calls do you have?
Me-told.(madam smiled )
P1-thank you we are done.
My reactions would have been worth watching..I somehow stupidly blurted out "thats it!!"
and they said "yes".
I wished them good day and came out.Everyone waiting outside started laughing at me.don't know what to make out of it.Keeping my fingers crossed.
