I wud suggest go for self study.....if you people need help probably I am all for it. I can share my study plan and probably help anyone struggling to stretch from 600 to 700 level

I have 4.5 years of work exp in Oracle ERP and Iam planning to take GMAT test in Febrauray or March.Intially i have decided to prepare on my own but due to hectic schedule i have realised that i should join a institute to have a disclipinary approach ,So guys need your help in deciding a good center (Manhattan/Kaplan/Princeton..).
Would be pleased if you guys can share your study plan and preferred material (As there are too many choices its quite tough to select one) to prepare.

Just last month, I appeared for the GMAT & am kind of disappointed with the score of 700, I have had a gut feeling that I appeared in the exam under prepared, so I will be retaking the GMAT on 14th January 2011.
starting from the 1st Dec 2010 I will be dedicating 27x7 only for the exam and during that time I might be at Hyderabad (depend upon if I can get some serious study partners).
I am against the idea of joining any coaching for that and I have handful of Hard copies of necessary material (like MG prep guides, OGs Kaplans) so basically I am looking for some serious study partner with whom I can study and discuss, even I can share online MG prep tests. So anybody who also will be appearing for the test on jan or feb 2011 and would seriously like to study in a group, plz contact me so that we can help each other and make it fun to prepare

Even I am in the same dilemma. Most of the toppers have stated on the net that self study is the best method to crack GMAT. Coaching institutes won't help that much. So I am planning to first start preparaing on my own by referring to different materials. And after two months if I feel a need of a coaching institute then probably I will join one. Any ways I want to apply for the 2012 academic year so I can write GMAT in July/August.
What about you? When are planning to take GMAT and applying for which course?

I don't have an immediate intention of joining any B-school, but would like to get my best score so that I can apply for universities accordingly. I understand GMAT scores are valid for a period of 5 years.
Hi fellow hyderabadis 
Most of you have a confusion about when to start n where to start so just though il give you some quick tit bits-
1. For Fall 2012 applications are open from August 2011 so it is always advisable to finish your GMAT around 2-2.5months before the deadlines so that you have enough time to work on other formalities such as essays, recommendations, selecting which college to apply etc. A good time in my view to finish the GMAT is May end. So I suggest you start the preparation from Feb.
2. Start by going through www.mba.com so understand the exam. Pick up latest edition of official guides and take a mock to evaluate where you stand.
3. Preparation can be done either by self studying or joining an institute. Infact it depends on you if you will be disciplined and study and look out for strategies on your own or shell out some money but get the ready-made tips from the institute directly.
