I am preparing for GMAT and planning to give it some time in March end or April. I have a doubt in the CR section of Manhattan. I have completed the CR from OG 11 and my accuracy was consistently 90% and i was confident enough to crack this section but when i started solving Manhattan CR my accuracy drastically reduced to 70% - 75 %. Did anyone else has experienced this. Is the Manhattan CR difficulty level is high? Somehow i felt that the style of CR questions were very different in Manhattan then in OG11.
Any input in this regard will be really helpful to correctly evaluate my preparation in this section.

1. Assertion of airlines officials: The increase in number of reported accidents can be attributed to extensive media coverage.
We need to an argument that will invalidate this claim. If we have a proof that increase in airline accidents is real and not just a perception.
(A) Irrelevent...passage doesn't talk abt any particular country.
(B) This clearly states that # of accidents increase in peak season, so increase is well reasoned as against claim of airline officials.
(C) Passage doesn't talk abt guidelines or coverage protocol.
(D) Out of scope
(E) relation betwen Airplane flight miles and increase in accident is not clear. doesn't weaken the claim.
So C clearly stands out as winner.
2. Critics' charge: the sales seminars are ill conceived and a waste of money for vacuum clearner companies.
Evidence sites is by comparing revenues of two type of companies. let's say X and Y. Employees of X atteneded the seminar and those of Y didn't. But Revenue of X was still lower than that of Y post seminar.
Assumption: Both the companies had same revenue before seminar.
If you find a flaw in the argument you can prove that this comparison may not be accurate.
One such argument will be that revenue of Company Y was highest before seminar, hence lower revenue was not only the result of seminar, but also historical reasons. That's what Option A says.
(B) clearly supports that conclusion of critics
(C) Passage doesn't talk abt cost of seminars. it's irrelevent to the result.
(D) Critics don't talk abt design of vacuum clearns.
(E) This general statement only talks about total increase in sales. it doesn't say what was share of companies X and Y.

The subtlety, and therefore the difficulty, of GMAT critical reasoning does not vary very much. If you can get better than 8/10 from the OG on CR, you should take your time to study the other topics.
Getting 80% right in each of the verbal question types and completing the verbal part of the test would get you a verbal raw score in the low forties. The verbal "curve" is much less harsh than the math. Consistency of performance and number of questions completed has much more relevance in the verbal.

I agree. Even though I haven't taken my GMAT, I find clear difference in the way GMAT frames the questions and those that non standard sources i.e. Kaplan, Mahattan, etc. prepare.
Solving questions for practice does help to keep you focused when you are already done with OG, but important thing here is whether you are able to analyze the arguments. Premise, conclusion, assumptions, etc. If you do then no CR question will be problem for you. That's what is more important than getting answer right, which may sometimes happen by chance. Get the feel of where you stand and then try to refine your approach. Try time saving tactics.

I would encourage you to follow the posts by psychodementia, coach.gmat and reachnagraj. Also follow their blogs and yahoogroups ;)
Trust me - getting a 700+ score with the right preparation, strategy and effort is possible. Just for the record, out of the 5000 applications in ISB and IIMs this year, over 3000 people had a score of 700+. Of these over 1200 people had a score of 750+. It sounds boisterous isn't it. But it is possible mate. Just go for it.
