Is the answer B.What does the OA Say
Store S sold 90 copies of a certain book during the 7 days of the last week and it sold different number of copies everyday. If it sold the greatest number of copies of Sat and 2nd highest on fri, did it sell more than 11 copies on fri?
1)Sold 8 copies on thu
2)sold 38 copies on sat
1. Thu = 8
Su Mo TU We TH FR SA
1 2 3 4 8 9 63 and also
1 2 3 4 8 20 52... so we cannot be sure . 1 is insufficient
2. SA = 38
Su Mo TU We TH FR SA
6 7 8 9 10 12 38.
We are by no means able to make the total of Su-Th more than 40.
We cant increase Th to 11 then Fr will automatically be 12.
So 2 is sufficient.
My answer - B
OA says C. It was one of the questions in the GMATPrep test

Even I'm getting B.
is dis ques given in OG as well?
thanks
Guyz pl help me wid this.....got stuck with relatively easy probs:
1) In a survey of 150 persons, how many were smokers and drinkers?
(I) 80% of the person surveyed were drinkers
(II) 40% of the smokers were drinkers also
I chose OA to be C but its wrong
2) Find the fourth consecutive even number:
(I) The sum of the last two numbers is 30
(II) The sum of the first two numbers is 22
I chose OA B
but its wrong.
pl explain ur method while selecting ur answer....
thanks
I also think answer should be C for first one.. ? where did u get this one ?

I think the answer could be B.
The question asked the number of people who are 'smokers and drinkers' i.e. people who both smoke and drink.
Option B says 40 % of the smokers were drinkers also, that means 40% people were both smokerd and drinkers and that is what we want, isnt it ?
Whats the OA ?

How can the answer be B? To be able to find out the number of people who are smokers and drinkers, one must first know how many of the total 150 persons are smokers. I would have chosen option C in this case.
For the 2nd question on consecutive even numbers, I would go for D i.e each statement is sufficient.

i think the answer would be C.
A consecutive even integer series can be 2,6,8,10 and also 10,8,6,4 is
also a consecutive even integer series.Now lets jump to
option 2:-
"the sum of first 2 Nos is 22".So the first 2 Nos could be a,a+2 which
means 2a + 2 =22,a=10 and series would be 10,12,14,16.In this case the
4th consecutive integer would be 16.
Also Nos could be a,a-2 which means 2a-2=22 , a=12 so series could be
12,10,8,6.in this case 4th consecutive integer would be 6.Hence Option
2 is insufficient.
Option 1:- This is also insufficient as there could be 2 Possibilities
1) Series could be 20,18,16,14 or 10,12,14,16...in both the cases ...sum of last 2 Nos
in both cases is 30.So, this is also insufficient..
If you combine - Fourth consecutive integer would be 16.Hence C
mockingabird SaysOA says C. It was one of the questions in the GMATPrep test
What explanation have they given? i too feel it should be B as we are getting an unambigous answer through statement B
When X is divided by 7, the remainder is U. When Y is divided by 7, the remainder is V. What is the value of U+V?
(1) X+Y is divisible by 7
(2) X-Y is divisible by 7
What is the average of a set of 6 consecutive odd integers?
(1) the sum of 2 numbers of the set is 40
(2) the sum of 2 numbers of the set is 24
When X is divided by 7, the remainder is U. When Y is divided by 7, the remainder is V. What is the value of U+V?
(1) X+Y is divisible by 7
(2) X-Y is divisible by 7
U = x%7 => U = 7x + a; Also 0V = y%7 => V = 7y + b; Also 0
=>
U + V = ( X+Y ) + 7( a+b ) ; 1 U - V = ( X-Y ) - 7( a-b ) ; 0 1. X+Y is divisible by seven
then U+V is divisible by seven => U+V = 7
1. is sufficient.
2. X-Y is divisible by seven
U-V is divisible by seven => U-V = 0... but nothing can be said about U+V...
2. is insufficient.
Answer (A)
What is OA?
What is the average of a set of 6 consecutive odd integers?
(1) the sum of 2 numbers of the set is 40
(2) the sum of 2 numbers of the set is 24
suppose the numbers are
2x-5, 2x-3, 2x-1, 2x+1, 2x+3, 2x+5.
1. sum of any two is 40 = insufficient
2. sum of any two is 24 = insufficient
Combining=>
Note that (sum of any two numbers) - (sum of any two numbers) can be maximum of 16.
That also when smallest two numbers are subtracted from largest two.
Hence, 2x+5 + 2x+3 = 40 OR 2x-5 + 2x-3 = 24, both will give 2x = 16.
Hence average = 16
Answer (C).
What is OA ?
Yes, the OA is (C).
suppose the numbers are
2x-5, 2x-3, 2x-1, 2x+1, 2x+3, 2x+5.

OA is (C).. can someone plz help? Thanks!
U = x%7 => U = 7x + a; Also 0V = y%7 => V = 7y + b; Also 0

1. is sufficient.
2. X-Y is divisible by seven
U-V is divisible by seven => U-V = 0... but nothing can be said about U+V...
2. is insufficient.
Answer (A)

1. is sufficient.
2. X-Y is divisible by seven
U-V is divisible by seven => U-V = 0... but nothing can be said about U+V...
2. is insufficient.
Answer (A)
What is OA?
Its A
Consider this:
X=6, Y=8...X/7...= (Rem U)= 6, Y/7 = (Rem V)= 1
Hence U+V=7 whatever be the values of X and Y as long as X+Y is divisible by 7
Statement 2: For diff values of X and Y, we get diff values of U-V
Hence ans is A

C and A ?
What are the OAs?
Yes the OA is C and A. But how? π
1. The only consecutive odd numbers possible, one negative and other positive, are -1 and +1. hence sum will be 0.
2. slope = -a/b. If you put the value of a given in (1), you can calculate b.
