Hi Inder,
I am a bit confused with ur answers because as per GMAT DS -option D means both statements alone are sufficient and in the bracket you have written - it can be answered by both statements together.
Anyways OA s are c) and c)
Can anyone explain ...
Hi italian7745,
in that case i guess i remembered the option wrong .......
as per my understanding
A) can be answered by first only
B) can be answered by second only
C) can be answered by either alone
D) can be answered by both together
e) can not be answered by using both as well
I am sorry for confusing you..........
any way the answer for both will be
we need both the statements to answer
Now the expalnation for first one
1) Of the 60 animals on a certain farm, 2/3rd are either pigs or cows. How many of the animals are cows?
a) the farm has more than twice as many cows as it has pigs
b) the farm has more than 12 pigs
As per problem statement
C + P = 2/3*60=40
now lets take first staement
it says
C>2P so we can not conclude based on that .
Now as per second statement
p>12...... this also is not sufficient to answer
Now lets combine two statement
first says C>2P and second says P>12
now lets take P =13
=> C >2P i.e C>26
Now we are given C + P =40
only possibility is P=13 and C=27
Hence, we need both the statement
Hope m clear............
