Hi frens,
Though I dont post frequently, I do follow the threads in PG.
Let me introduce myself.Am Venkat from chennai.I am a BE and MBA (april 2004), both from university of madras. I am working in a fin services bpo and will be moving to another job soon.
I want to do a Phd to pursue a career in teaching and research.and plan to take the Gmat in oct 2005.
It will be nice if some one could answer the following queries:
1.I have shortlisted 5-6 universities in the US (Apart from NUS and NTU in singapore), outside the top 20 to,partly due to financial aid factor and partly due to my average acads 😞 .
They are:Purdue,Pittsburgh,CMU,Maryland,Kansas,cornell.
Have I missed out on any obvious univ in the same cadre as above ?
2.Will it be enough if I start my prep for Gmat now or should I postpone my Gmat-(I can spend about 2 hrs a day studying)?

I will be writing the SoP later and will need the help of veterans like Simba,Arun and others fot editing it.Hope you guys will chip in.
Ps:I got a Call from IIMC for the FPM program last year but messed up the interview. So decided to gain some workex and try for a PhD abroad.
If anyone else is trying for a PhD,please join in.

cheers

hi siddartha,
Nice to hear from you.

In which college are you doing your MBA and in which area do you intend to do a PhD?
Well...I am planning to do a PhD in Organizational Behavior.I am also looking at the IIMs so it Will be CAT+GMAT prep for me.
Are you keen on doing a PhD here or abroad?
Anyway...am yet to start full fledged prep.

Cheers

Venkat

You have mentioned the 5 Universities you will be applying to.Can you give some stats on those.I also plan to do a PhD in US in Finance. When do you plan to apply to those universities. Why are you raking your GMAT in OCt'05 if you plan to join them in July '06.

I am giving my GMAT in April '05 and will apply for universities in Oct '05 for the session begining in July '06.
