Hey Sapna,
As regards the GMAT coaching my thoughts are as below:
The Course as per my information would cost you around 16000+ with only a few hrs of class room session. Not sure of the cost benefit. You have already attended classes for CAT. I think you are already geared enough to fine tune your preperation from the GMAT angle, and this can quite easily done thru the books suggested on this forum.
Also, if however you do feel necessary, i think you shd be looking at coaching isnt like Priceton or Veritas, these are more GMAT focused.
Cheers,
Astriex
sapnna Sayshey rockjay..iam planning to join IMS for coaching..is it good enough..ne comments guyz? regards sapnna :D
Hey sapnna,
I dont think you should waste ur money on Coaching - it is a real waste beleive me. so plz think before you decide. Speak with ppl around reg this.
You can crack GMAT by prepping seriously for 3 months. You might as well end the prep in 2 months too. It is not as difficult as u seem to be believing. It just needs disciplined and committed efforts - during the preps and, more importantly, during the test.

Excellent pieces.
PS. Sapnna/ Ramaa get into the material Kunal has provided... on the site look for something called Test Code ## download it and attempt it.... will give you a clear idea about the content of GMAT. You might also want to download the GMAT Prep software from MBA.com and attempt a GMAT Prep GMAT CAT Simulator Test aka GMAT Prep Test 1 or 2.
Also if you are looking at specific strategies of working on a Quant then take Kaplan GMAT 800.

My advice. if you are not great at maths and are a lil hesitant. do not touch Kaplan 800 till you achieve a state of basic mathematical bliss. you wudn't want to break your confidence by attempting questions of that level (by mistaking the same for GMAT questions)
Cheers
Kunal
P.S. give the paper tests first which i uploaded. let me know the scores. i might be able to help you in formalising a strategy. ATB

i dun get you kunal..what book are we to refer to right now ?is the level of difficulty of kaplan similar to that of GMAT?
regards sapnna
Sapnna, I had given the GMAT last time .... did'nt get a good score:(.... So I am giving it again in August..... I also used Kaplan800,OG11,Princeton ....
What Kunal is Rightly saying:satisfie: is ..if you are not very good at quant, start with a OG11 or Princeton to work on the basic Concept and then advance to Kaplan 800 as its difficulty level is definately little higher than most of the Q's in GMAT exam....
Personally if you ask me I would first pick up OG11 and see the topic coverage and work out OG's Problem then when I am confident with my prepration I would take the test's in the following order
1.Power Prep
2.GMAT Prep
3.Princeton
4.Kaplan
BTW.... I am also joining IMS for GMAT coaching and admission Consulting... I believe you were also joining IMS !!!! How is the Faculty....
Please give me feedback of IMS as I am paying fees tommorow.

Let me answer for Kunal. Till he opines.
Kaplan800 is the book .Kaplan is the publisher. Kaplan publishes different books for GMAT prep.
The GMAT Prep Books can be typicaly Basic Reference Material (BRM) and the Specific Study Books (SSB) ...... acronyms mine.
What Kunal is trying to tell you is, if you are not very confident with the status of your scores in Quant. Begin with the BRMs ( something like a Princeton Review GMAT Ed 2006 with CD would be good; something like Kaplan GMAT Ed 2006 would be equaly good). To get the fundamental concepts placed right.
If you are confident about the Quant ki knowledge but want to check without spending
(you can test that by taking the GMAT Prep Test or the ETS Paper Tests as I have mentioned earlier).
If you have checked and want to prep specificaly for Quant. Then I would prescribe an OG10 or OG11 along with a Kaplan 800.
BTW some more gyaan.
1) your comfort vis a vis GMAT would depend the time you've spent away from prepping for tests.. .either acads or competitions.
2) and on weather you are working or 100% dedicated to prep.
i dun get you kunal..what book are we to refer to right now ?is the level of difficulty of kaplan similar to that of GMAT?

I'd just list the books i used and would speak abt them - personal opinions anyway!!!
Kaplan 2006 edition - Very little in the name of theory. They have some strategies too - helpful, but not complete. Each section had 50 test Qs though, which werehelpful to begin with.
Princeton 2006 edition - Lots of theory and strategies - but i wudnt say complete again. More types of Qs covered as compared to Kaplan 2006. Fun to read
Kaplan 800 - One helluva book. You'll be given a bunch of the Qs for each section and all the Qs are from the top draw (or somewhere above it). This MUST be the final book on the prep list. Anyone beginning with this will be SHATTERED :wow:
OG 11 - The bible. This is the only place where u get actual GMAT Qs. The prev books are to get familiar with or rather brush up the concepts.
I started with Kaplan 2006, Princeton 2006 and Kaplan 800 in tandem. I'd do one section a week - covering all 3 books. In about a 5 weeks, i was able to finish everything. Now i'm working on OG 11.
I'm doing OG towards the end coz it is better to be in the same zone before the real exam. much of cracking GMAT is abt being familiar with the Qs and being able to think how the test creator wud have thought :wow:
About the sample tests - this is my plan. Start with GMATPrep1 and PowerPrep1. These will let you know where u stand. Then strategise ur study plan and frame ur schedule. Work on ur schedule and during this time being do the Kaplan and Princeton tests. They are simply for getting familiar with the 4 hr test. Dont give too much into their scores - they are not supposed to be closer to the actual test scores. Kaplan especially can be pretty demotivating. I havent seen any of the top scores (those who scored 750+ in GMAT) score beyong 670 in the Kaplan tests 😞 One all prep is over, do a GMATPrep2 and PowerPrep2 to see where u need to fine tune and all other stuff.
Disclaimer: Absolutely no guarantee that this will work. Even i dont know as i am yet to give my GMAT But till date (i've been sticking to this for almost 6 weeks now) i'm doing well and i can see real improvement. What works for me need not work for u
Post if there are any doubts or other queries.
To the GMAT baaps, any suggestions on the schedule are welcome. If you see an scope for improvement, feel free to post in ur comments :)

Guys,
Can someone suggest whether there are any online tests available at Scoretop? If yes, how good are they? I know, someone said earlier that there are tests available, if you subscribe to Scoretop's VIP membership. Is it true?

Pramod.

Much has been said between my earlier post and today. and the idea has been fairly conveyed. just go thru their posts closely and you will find your answer.
shall clarify some more points and opine on others

Let me answer for Kunal. Till he opines.
Kaplan800 is the book .Kaplan is the publisher. Kaplan publishes different books for GMAT prep.
Jus for fun: Kaplan is not the publisher (but Simon and Shuster is). Kaplan is a series of books for harder yet very efficient study for various exams.
To get the fundamental concepts placed right.
that would be what i wanted to convey. :)
If you are confident about the Quant ki knowledge but want to check without spending
(you can test that by taking the GMAT Prep Test or the ETS Paper Tests as I have mentioned earlier).
Here I would strongly differ in opinion. GMAT Powerprep Tests are like manna. they are to be protected till about the end. you could give one earlier but the second one should be the last paper that you ever give before GMAT. this is simply because they are THE closest thing to GMAT. and you would want to be in the exact mode and mood for GMAT in the last mock exam that you attempt.
If you have checked and want to prep specificaly for Quant. Then I would prescribe an OG10 or OG11 along with a Kaplan 800.
bingo. but keep Kaplan 800 for practice and not a benchmark. It is a gud book and like all gud things has very few questions for practice (relatively that is and in any case i wudn't consider 50 questions as many)
BTW some more gyaan.
1) your comfort vis a vis GMAT would depend the time you've spent away from prepping for tests.. .either acads or competitions.
2) and on weather you are working or 100% dedicated to prep.
Bingo again.

Some points:
1) The general strategy is a gud one.
2) I wudn't keep OG for the end reasons? a) it is a gud book b) it is a representative book and so wud help in formulating crash strategies in the end c) it has a lot of questions - it often happens that plans go haywire and you never get enuf time to finish some material (happenend with me. and then you are under pressure to finish all that you have(again happened with me)
3) Avoid Princeton - haven't heard many ppl give their votes for the tests. there are so many others. why shy away ?
4) Kaplan scores are debilitating, demotivating, derailing, de-everything but are still to be taken - if for nothing else than to shake up your schedule and make you more focussed on your problems. and scores are not rep-tive - i never crosses 650 yet got 770 in the test itself.
Again my opinion
Cheers
Kunal
P.S. Iday your schedule looks gud but 1 thing that bothers me - you have been preparing for 6 weeks already. yet to start OG. still going thru other books. so the questions is : when do you plan to give your test? dont stretch it too far. inevitably the curve starts to dip after some time - work/life/weather/GF/BF/Boss etc being some contributors ;-)
ATB - hope you crack the damn exam
Sapnna, I had given the GMAT last time .... did'nt get a good score:(.... So I am giving it again in August..... I also used Kaplan800,OG11,Princeton ....

My opinion: I wudn't mind reversing the order of the tests. reasons explained in other posts. I did so. worked well for me. Kaplan in the end sucks. you would want to give Kaplan to expose chinks in your armour and hence formulate study schedules, not to help you find new depths of confidence before the test.
Cheers
Kunal
