Canadian scientists have calculated that one human being should be struck every nine years by a meteorite, while each year sixteen buildings can be expected to sustain damage from such objects.

Car owners who inflate their tires properly can substantially boost their vehicles' fuel efficiency, since the increase in car-road friction can waste up to five percent of car fuel by underinflation.
(A) Car owners who inflate their tires properly can substantially boost their vehicles' fuel efficiency, since the increase in car-road friction can waste up to five percent of car fuel by underinflation. (B) Because the underinflation of tires can waste up to five percent of a car's fuel by increasing car-road friction, car owners can substantially boost their vehicles' fuel efficiency by properly inflating the tires. (C) Their vehicles' fuel efficiency is substantially boosted by car owners through the proper inflation of tires that, when underinflated, can waste up to five percent of car fuel by an increase in car-road friction. (D) The proper inflation of tires by car owners, due to the fact that underinflation can waste up to five percent of a car's fuel by the increase of car-road friction, can substantially boost their fuel efficiency. (E) Because up to five percent of a car's fuel are wasted through the increases in car-road friction when the tires are underinflated, car owners properly inflating tires can substantially boost their fuel efficiency.
Why is the answer (E) and not (B)?? Please explain!!
Carpenters, dentists, sewing machine operators, needlepointers, piano players, and indeed anyone who works with their hands for long hours can get carpal tunnel syndrome.

B is wrong because B says "anyone working". Anyone is singular. e.g. He has a problem. Anyone has a problem. If you look at the sentence, it has all plurals in it...carpenters, dentists etc. So, we have to look for a plural. Thus, A, B are gone. C doesn't make sense. D is also wrong because it is too awkward. So, E. :) Wooo hoo! I can do it if I know the answer!!

A is not correct because: It uses since...Since is mainly used to denote a time period. e.g. "Youre looking much better since you came out of hospital"
I think B is correct. It uses because - correct conjunction to be used to denote a reason. Also, by placing the reason first, it kind of creates more emphasis.
C is incorrect because it starts awkwardly...and the entire sentence is kind of skrewed up.
D is also wrong for the same reasons as C...very awkward.
E is wrong: Because....through...when, car owners properly inflating tires can substantially boost their fuel efficiency. Their acts on tires...not on cars.

(A) in a bitter dispute over (B) over bitterly disputing (C) after there was a bitter dispute over (D) after having bitterly disputed about (E) over a bitter dispute about
B and D are ridiculous...out dispute over is the correct usage...E out A and C.... A is concise...I wud go for A here.
the correct answer choice is 'E' indeed.. here in the sentence the thought process is for a certain group viz carpenters', sewing m/c operators etc and the the choice 'E' talks about that only.. where as the choice 'B' talks about only a single person

This is an example of bad sounding option being the correct one...
E is yucky but the ONLY option here.... as satish rightly said...anyone is singular....so anyone is an illogical fit... A B out....C is ridiculous... for a meaningful sentence 'any' has to be there...so replace 'one' with people and u get a plural subject...E.
Its yucky pravs....but u hav to go by elimination sometimes....
My tip...make a word...to memorise all the SC rules...and write down on the scratch paper...and tick off the letters (like M for modifiers, S for subject verb agreement....if they are tight...) this way u wont miss on the 8 rules or more...whatever u have....

look what u hav put in quotes...dont confuse the already confused souls.... edit it and i will remove the groan...
What is the reminder when 9^1 + 9^2 + 9^3 + ...... + 9^9 is divided by 6? (1) 0 (2) 3 (3) 4 (4) 2 (5) None of these
the solution to this Qn wil be 'E' (ANs :1)
soln: Qn: (9^1 + 9^2 + 9^3 + ...... + 9^9)/6
= (3(1+9^1 + 9^2 + 9^3 + ...... + 9^8 )/2 =(3( (1+(odd number+odd number)....(odd number+odd number))/2 now odd+odd=even => (3(1+(even)*4))/2 which is (even/2) + 1/2 thus the remainder will be ONE

enjoy
even i did the same mistake...the remainder must be 3. check my previous posts on this thread. :)
The problem with these type of threads is that often AFTER a question has been posted and answered, puys still come back and post answers(the_manager no offence to you. the same thing's happened in the CAT section as well). While that's still not a bad thing, the problem is that the thread becomes longer with repeat posts making it difficult/tiresome for others to read through.
Am looking for solutions to this problem.
My idea was that the original Q poster will edit his post and add that the Q has been answered and link to the posts. Any other suggestions are always welcome.
