I am writing something i know about "should" vs "if"

There are 2 types of conditional clauses: true(factual) and untrue(hypothetical). Consider below examples:

if you don't take the test, you will not get any score.

can you replace "if" with "should"? NO because the condition is a fact. it's proven. Another example:

should you fall in trouble, call me.

Here "should" is correct because you don't know that the person you are advising will really fall in trouble. its hypothetical.

One more example :
if you should fall sick, call the doctor.
this sentence is correct too.

For the example you have presented, i will pick :should the present rate of buildup continue

So dogged were Frances Perkins investigations of the garment industry should be followed by something which is parallel to it...

1st part - Frances Perkins's investigations of garment industry.....
i guess only e parallels it..

a,b,d all have verb "was" which make them incorrect.

if you look to maintain parallel constructs ,the 2nd part should start with "so...".

hence e)

Rather than accept the conventional wisdom that the earth was flat, Christopher Columbus was sent by the king and queen of Spain to see if he could reach India by sailing west.

e) Instead of accepting the conventional wisdom that the earth was flat, Christopher Columbus was sent by the king and queen of Spain to sail west to see if he could reach India.

IMO E.
Correct usage of idiom: so X that. Here we have repetition of the same idiom which should be in parallel. However I feel E would sounded better if it was stated as :
and so persistent her lobbying for wage and hour reform, that -- note the "and" at the beginning. Even then E sounds the best. Let me know the OA.

Nice one. IMO D

because of "instead of" used for clause, we can safely ignore C & E
A & B make the sentence passive and gives the indication that King/Queen was reluctant to accept that earth was flat.
"Having been" used for D causes a little concern but the clarity of meaning always wins over anything else.

Spot on BizzareNym.
D) is infact the right answer.
I didnt know that "instead of..." cant precede a clause and hence chose c) as my answer.

and the modifier - "having been...." confused me as well. πŸ˜ƒ .

But i guess since it modifies the subject of the preceding clause, its ok gramatically...correct?.
