(E) that any chemical banned in the United States on medical grounds is prohibited from being sold to other countries

IMO: C

Its a tussle between A & C.

A - directive that...be prohibited. Though nothing seems to be wrong, the passive tone makes the sentence long for no reason.
C - directive prohibiting the sale - active voice is in better agreement, and is more concise, without compromise on meaning.

Nice one. OA please.

IMO: D

Requires 'that' so A, B are off the plate.
C is most tempting, as impose, require and spend are all parallel. But on close observation, impose and require deal with the 'plan' while 'spend' is dealt with the doctors. So 'spend' should be spending.
E - fixes the 'spend' but violates parallelism for the two actions 'impose' and 'require'.

D seems most appropriate.

Again, do share the OA. These are tricky !

multiple things in same question.. huh!!

idiom is prohibit x form y.. and I think "prohibit from" is wrong.. option A, B and option E are ruled out..

option D.. that's hilarious option..

so I think by POE.. I would have marked option C

you have to realize which verbs are supposed to be parallel and which aren't. there's no grammatical formula for this; you have to examine the meaning of the sentence to figure it out.
- 'impose' should be parallel to 'require'. these are two different things, both of which are aspects of the plan (logical parallelism).
- 'spend' should NOT be parallel to 'see', because it functions as a modifier of 'see'

only option D follows the correct concept/funda highlighted above.. holds true for me.. I would have marked option D

My answer is option-C.
Rest other options sentence is not idiomatic "prohibit x from y", and parallelism is also violated.

This question is about adjectives and adverbs, and its a little bit of a trick however strange it may sound, this sentence is perfectly correct.

Joe, who hasnt showered, smells bad. We are modifying a noun (Joe), so we want an adjective.

John, who is stuffed up, smells badly. We are modifying a verb (smells), so we want an adverb.

Both uses are correct, although they have very different meanings!

No Corrections ;)

One more... Identify the error(s):

Joe, who hasnt showered in days, smells badhowever, John, who is suffering from nasal congestion, smells so badly that Joes odor doesnt bother him at all.

1. "Showered in" is wrong it should be "showered for ",
2. badly is wrong adverb here
3. pronoun reference error for him in the last statement.

I thik this should be the correct form of the sentence.

Joe, who hasn't showered for days smells so bad, however Joe's odor doesn't bother john at all, as john is suffering from nasal congestion.

"smells so badly" is incorrect..
the part after however, can be written in multiple ways...

.............however, John, who is suffering from nasal congestion, isn't bothered by him at all.

Nice question.
Correct me if i am wrong.
C,D - ruled out 'directive' doesnt go well with 'prohibiting'
E- 'was to rescind' - does not go well with 'is prohibited from'
B - very vague.

A is my take !
So IMHO, the original sentence is correct.
