"Take as many full length tests as possible" is not the best way to go about it.
The ones most representative are:
1. GPREP (100% representative)
2. PowerPREP (80 - 90% representative, older GMAT CBT)
3. MGMAT (75 - 80% representative)
4. ARCO, PETERSON, PRINCETON, KAPLAN - stay away!
when r u gonna write ?
flagship,
That was a suggestion given out of my experience.I got 710(without repetition) in OG but in the actual exam I scored just 580.what do u suggest for me??.
I read all the books. Some People suggested try to get 650 in Kaplan tests and take the exam.Things differ from one person to another.there is no single way to crack Gmat.
But one frequent mistake each one of us do is writing the practice tests for 150 minutes excluding AWA.So I suggested to take as many as full tests possible with proper Analysis.
Based on my experience, "Take as many full length tests as possible" is not the best way to go about it".
I would be cautious in taking full length CBTs. More tests need not always translate to better scores. I stuck to GPREP and POWERPREP the second time I took the GMAT and scored 730.
I agree with your observation on AWA. Students often skip that section, which is not a wise thing to do.

Hi Friend,
I also started preparing for GMAT, I working in IBM, DLF IT park.
u can send me a msg at [email protected] or [email protected].
Hi!
Yup I do plan to take a couple of tests. But unlike CAT, i guess in GMAT, the number of tests taken doesnt really matter. As for the study material, I've finally decided to stick to OG 12, Kaplan 800, Princeton Review and Manhattan (Verbal) as i don have too much time in hand... I m writing it on the 30th of this month!!. Yet to start with AWA.
I dont have the MGMATs and tests frm manhattan. Does anyone have them here?
Naren
Please by OG 12, it costs 1700 or so. Having it makes a difference.
Hi folks,
Donno if this is the right place to post....
But yeh..jst completed my GMAT on 8th Sept. 09 @ chennai..
Some Tips :
May b u heard the samething ovr n ovr again, but i quote it again :
Study Kit :
1 . stick to OG 12 till u hit the 700 mark.
Analyse each and every problem in OG in depth.
Take ur time..do the problem again n again till u get the logic n concept right
2. Manhattan SC
My WaY of AnsWering :
RC Algorithm:.
-----------------------------------
Read the passage completely, try 2 understand what the author is talking abt,
most of the gmat RCs' (unlike CAT rcs') make sense.
Dont start cryin incase the author doesnt make ne sense to u(poor AWA candidate u c :D)
Just read the qtion try 2 trace it to the passage...now take ur own time,
Sit bac read re-read n re-read try to check every option with our traces (believe me u will b able 2 eliminate most of the choices).
Best of Luck wid ur Rcs'
------------------------------------
SC Algorithm:.
Thr are very limited errors tat the GMAT tests, but the combination of error's
makes it a bit difficult. Neverthless, this section is almost like math, u understand the
concept...apply the concept...get ur result.
Start with older version of manhattan SC,it is pretty gd 4 practicing SC's
(now if u lk at a SC u should be able 2 identify the error or combi of errors)
Then start OG 12, n check if ur concepts are right
-----------------------------------
I guess i will giv a detailed algo in a few days.
---------------------------------
CR :
---------------------------------------
1, Read the CR ..take ur time ...
2. Identify Facts n assumptions n conclusions.
3. Read the qtion
4. Read the answr n cross check with the assumptions n facts..n conclusions.
(that way v can check if the ansr lies within the scope), eliminate all those
answrs which fall outta scope.
5. Still left wid two options, u need 2 start reasonin now .
--------------------------------------------
QUANT :
Understand the concept behind every problem in og,
meaning even if i twist/turn or wat ever i do with the original qtion,
still u should b able to answr the qtion.
Data sufficiency :
-------------------------------------------
1. Read the qtion carefully, take ur time dont mess up here.
2. Take the 1st option into accnt n check if u can ansr the qtion
3. Take the 2nd option into accnt n check if u can ansr the qtion
4. U knw wat 2 do.
Example : is x > y ?
1. x 2. y > 0
Common mistake :
x 0
so x but the qtion asked is x > y
hence answr is no....so none of these.
(whereas the answr is both 1 n 2 together)
-------------------------------------------
Concept building :
1. Read the qtion try 2 answr..
2. If u dont get the answr ...go thru the formulae's related to the prob. again.
3. Now try 2 apply, try as long as possible, dont keep ne timelines(take as long as an hr 4 aa prob.)
4. Still dont get it ?? chk the solution n reason y n whr u went wrong .
5. try 2 visualise as many qtions as possible
Ex : avg age of girls in school is 10 n avg age of boys in school is 20.....total avg age is 12
?s the ratio of num of girls to boys ??
try all combi's lik if ratio..g_avg n b_avg are given, find total avg? etc. etc.
this is an unedited post written in an xtreme sense of urgency, i will try 2 come up with a btr 1 nxt time ,Hope this helps
