Hi Guys,
Am planin to give GMAT by this year end ..probably Nov-Dec.
Am a newbie for GMAT...have a 3.5 yrs of work experience.....gave CAT for 2 yrs and did nt quite make it....Still confused in giving CAT/GMAT or both. I would appreciate your views and experiences on this on.
@ Meenakshi and @ Subhendu...
I have downloaded the Manhattan and OG10 from esnips and starting with for now.
Regards,
Hari.
Hi Hari-Carpe Diem, :
which exam to give is totally ur choice and wht u wanna do ahead.. if global circuit is ur place then GMAT else CAT.. both ways u can work hard and reach the global circuit..
good tht u have already started ur prep.. Best of luck 😃
Hi Hari,
Welcome on board...To add to the point stated by Meenakshi, choice between GMAT& CAT is a choice between an international degree & a local one.
With ur work ex u must be knowing the difference between the 2...+ wht u want for urself(coz the choice differs from person to person)
PS-My personal suggestion will be -Give a shot at GMAT,with sm serious prep.Get a good scr(which will be valid for 5 yrs).Than u can use ths prep to gv CAT anthr shot(plan to gv GMAt b4 november)....Having options is always good.......
Cheers
:D
Many ppl are just starting their prep, many have already started.. many may have already finished (wish i was one of these.. )
my status - pretty bad one.. stopped prep for ITIL exam (passed the exam so it was worth stopping the gmat prep 😃 )
started the prep again yesterday with Maths review.. doing algebra now... finished ratios and proportions, percentages, real numbers fractions and all..
plan to finish the maths section of the OG11 book by this week... i m also taking the ims material for some more practice and better understanding..
So till now i have completed - RC (theory and few practice tests and will take it up again later.. ), CR (again the same theory and few practice test and will take it up again later.. Next is Maths (Algebra and arithemetic) in the line..
Is there nobody who wud like to share their status with the rest of us on PG?

PS: i will keep on posting such words as and when i can for u all to see.. selfish reason here... i can put it down here and remember as well and may be it will help the ppl who read it also.. 😃
Hi Shubhendu, Hi Meenakshi
Thanks for your suggestions....
I am keeping my options open and having a go at the CAT and GMAT...
I jus started with GMAT so still not very much sure of the pattern, syllabus and approach to be taken for it....but aware of the CAT pattern...will studying for one help out other in a better way ?
Which course has to be concentrated earlier or at this point of time ?
Regards,
Hari.

Over the past 3-4 years, the RCVA section of CAT is becoming more and more reasoning based. Studying for GMAT-VA will certainly help you understand reasoning based questions in the CAT-RCVA section. In all probability, it should lead to a significant contributor to your CAT-RCVA sectional scores.
The same's true for GMAT-QA section, albeit, the other way round. CAT QA is considered at a higher level than GMAT-QA. Had you taken CAT previously, with negligible efforts, GMAT-QA should be a cake-walk.
Thanks Monil !!
That was encouraging.
Rgds,
Hari.

@monil bhai: perfectly said :)
@carp guy: The first thing I would suggest you to do is download the gmatprep software and take the test, just to get a feel of how the test is structured. Also, July would be a good time to take GMAT, so that there are still 3 months for GMAT prep, and another 4 after that for CAT prep
Now, coming to the CAT/GMAT dilemma:
I talked to a lot of ppl about this, and here are some points I noticed.
- GMAT SC is something which is way beyond CAT's scope and level. So this needs a special prep.
- GMAT RCs are not as long as CAT RCs, but a bit more reasoning intensive.. Still, if one focuses on CAT RCs, no special prep needed here.
- CR may or may not need seperate practice, because its more about a person's logical thinking.
Here is one of the study-routes which you may consider:
- Focus on CAT QA/DI. Maybe solve some DS from OG here-and-there just to get a feel, but nothing beyond that needed.
- Focus on CAT RCs. Time and practice them regularly.
- Manhattan SC is a MUST.
- OG Verbal section should be practised thoroughly.
- Tests should be taken frequently as the GMAT exam nears.
Please pour in your suggestions/comments. Thanks.

Hello friends,
Need help !!
Does anybody has read "How to get into the Top MBA programs by Richard Montauk".
I am planning MBA from top MBA programs of the world. Though I know my background and profile is not much competent for such colleges till date. But I want to leverage my potential to build up a competitive profile and apply to such colleges.
It would be highly appreciable if anybody would like to share their views/reviews on this book.

Hi Rajesh and anyone else who has the answer to my question:
I will be quitting my Job at the end of July and would like to sit for my GMAT exam in October first week. I have now started preparing for the exam using Manhattan book series. I would like to join a class full time in August and September before i sit for the exam to help go over my weak areas and also to get practise in sitting the exam in a supervised enviornment.
Could you kindly advise the following :
1. Which are the best GMAT prep classes in Juhu/Andheri or sorrounding suburbs which can help me best perpare for the exam.
2. How many hours a day do i need to spend in the classes , are they conducted daily?
Thanks a lot in advance.
