hello every body I need a GRE verbal grail for preparation . I am not finding it anywhere please if any one has done with that book then can it will be given to me ....Thank you.

I am planning to appear for GRE in July'14. Would really helpful ig someone share some tips, notes and so on. If yes please contact me on jagrat.bhomawat1@gmail.com

I would like to share my experience here.

I am a CAT aspirant, but gave GRE too. Wasn't serious for GRE and did 'zero' prep for it. Used "The Hindu" for improving my vocab and GK for MBA entrance exams. Nothing GRE specific for English, no word lists (but they are very helpful barrons 1600 r kaplans 900👍) but gave TIME AIMCATS and sectional tests too. Did a little "word power" too, 12-13 sessions max. For GRE quants I was complacent as I was preparing for CAT p (scored 170 eventually though mgmg). Was expecting a score in the range of 310-315 because of no prep (didn't even know the format of the GRE properly) but finally got 326. Though not a very good score but still much higher than my expectation or what I thought I deserve.

Serious advice -
1. Read "The Hindu" for vocab and sentence structure.
2. "Word Power Made Easy"- by Noman Lewis
3. Kaplans 900 or Barrons 1600 for pushing your score further up.
4. Don't worry about quants, it is a cakewalk even without any preparation.

Hey! I took my GRE last year in April. (19th, to be precise)
Firstly, they were all rumors about the negative marking being introduced in GRE. It was all bad conjecture at that point.
Secondly, if you are an engineer taking the GRE, please focus on the Quant. Most people that I know including I, myself, focus on revamping the Verbal section. While that is important, please remember that the focus is always on your Quant score, because you are from a technical background. Aim for a 99 percentile (=170) and trust me, it's easy. Time management is the most important thing in Quant; if at the end of the test you think you went through hell, that is solely because you took a wonderful test and the computer kept throwing nails at you. 😃

In both Quant and Verbal (i.e, 5 sections in all), it is of utmost significance that you get the first question correct. If you don't, your score will nosedive.

Having said that, we come to the verbal. Start going through Normal-Lewis - it's incredibly user friendly. When you've completed that book, move into the general master word list from Barron's. Now people will keep asking you to refrain from the big list and use the high-frequency words. But here's the thing, different strategy work for different people and so, you be the best judge. I went through the general word list in Barron. Also, there is no limit to words. So, on exam day, even if you know a few thousand new words, you may still come across words that you've never heard before. It happens and it's ineluctable. Please, move on and learn the most that you can.

Go through reading comprehension passages and solve them as much as you can - as many as you can, every damn day. RCs will knock you on down on your arses if you think they don't need practice.

Summarily, GRE is a pretty easy test. Don't let your nerves get the better of you.
Secondly, GRE scores are given second preference to your profile and/or academic background and your project. It's not life and death, remember. 😃

Hi Guys,

I am from an engineering background with a work-ex of 2 years. I am planning to give GRE in and around March end 2014. I am choosing such a close date because of teh following :
1.) My seniors and friends with experience have told me that 2 months is more than enough for GRE prep
2.) I have some other engagements after March due to which I would be short of preparation.

So can someone plz guide me how can I prepare to the best of my abilities in these mere 2 months and what resources should I follow ?

How to Master GRE

hello! I have secured 89.85% in 10th n 72.5% in 12th. Along with 84.3% in btech(ece) and recently joined TCS with advance training in JAVA(including struts and hibernate)

What are my chances? Is my profile okay? what are the universities I should look for MS in JAVA ?

Hi puys.... i have no idea about gre and ielts.... please enlighten me.... what are these? are these separate? what is the scope? what is placement scenario and the scholarship if any is possible to save cost ?? PLEASE PLEASE HELP DEAR FRIENDS :) :)

where to get previous papers for gre on latest pattern????

People who are looking for previous years papers as such - try searching for the Big Book on torrent. Also, there's no negative marking as of yet. Look into the "ets" site. They have discussed essays over there. The essays are generally repeated from the pool of essays mentioned on the site.
The patterns have changed, but the RCs continue to be helpful. 😃
Good luck, people.

I am planning to give GRE this august with a preparation of 2 months, I would like to know where do I start from? which books do I refer for awa, verbal, quants? I am aiming for 320+

can anybody confirm that in new pattern . Is the number of questions fixed ,I mean is it always 20 q/30 mins in verbal and 20 q/35 mins in quant or there could be surprises on test day

FYI - I will be giving test om 18th of may

Cheers
