We are the current year one Indian students at HKUST MBA. This thread is created to give the Pagalguy community more information on our program and to share our MBA experience so far.


Feel free to let us know if you have any questions about the program. However, please note that we won't be able to provide any comments on the possibility of someone getting selected by looking at the profiles so please avoid posting your profiles on this thread. “Profile questions will NOT be addressed by us.”


We will host this thread till end of May, 2014. Please bear with us for around 24-48 hrs to reply to your queries .


Here are some key facts about the program:


- Ranked world top 10 and Asia #1 by Financial Times for 4 years in a row. Also the only MBA program in Asia ranked in all four top global MBA rankings (Forbes, Businessweek, Economist, Financial Times)

- Our Class size is around 110 people coming from 31 nationalities (~50% Asians & 50% non-Asians)

- The close vicinity to China is a big plus to understand the emerging economy and to find out more about the Chinese culture

- There are 7 Indian students in our class and our backgrounds range from consulting, financial services, consumer goods, IT and operations

Could you answer the below queries:-

a) What is the approx cost per month other than the tuition fees listed on the website? i.e. the living expenses and other incidental expenses?

b) out of the 7 Indian Students, how many have received scholarships? What % of scholarships have been received by them??

Hello,

Please answer below questions:
1. I didn't see placement stat on the website...how is the placement there? Are all students getting campus placement? what is the average and highest salary in USD?
2. what is the avg work exp of the candidates? I have 7+ years of exp.
3. As per website, $93500 should be the total expense... Is this a holistic figure? As i need to take loan, I want to know if this amount will be less for an indian candidate.

Could you please elaborate as to what are the post MBA opportunities for candidates with Operations/supply chain as specialization?

Hi,

I have a query regarding the campus jobs at HKUST.
Do the campus jobs require a working knowledge of mandarin as a pre-requisite.
This sort of thing happens in some Spanish colleges where the visiting companies requires the applicants to have a working knowledge of Spanish.

Hello,
I have a query on the GMAT score. Can you please tell me what is the average GMAT score of the Indian students for the current batch of HKUST as compared to the average GMAT score of the entire batch?

Also I am already a MBA from one of the local colleges in India, but am trying to take a leap into doing an International MBA. Can you please advise whether in the current batch you have any candidate who is pursuing such 'second MBA'?

Could you please elaborate a bit on the current placement scene for HKUST MBA candidates. I've heard that many international folks are unable to get a sponsorship by the time their visa expires and so they have to come back to their home country and with a heavy loan on their head.

Hi,

Can you please help with the following ?

While looking at the placement report for 2012, I noticed that many of the Top Management Consulting firms (McKinsey, Deloitte, Accenture etc) didn't visit. However they did visit the campus in 2011.

Is there any reason why these firms have stopped visiting?

Also, do the management consulting firms have any language requirement (Mandarin/Cantonese)? If so, are there any courses offered on campus to learn these languages?

Hi,

I want to understand 2 things -
a. the placements scenario - I will most likely come back to India and work after graduation. What are your views on placement prospects in this case? Of what i have heard, its relatively easy for the bigger B school brands graduates to make it through this off campus route - does HKU UST fall in that category?

b. is the course structure too heavily dependent on China?

Hi Guys, I am a current applicant in round 2 of the admissions process. I got interested in the HKUST MBA programme mainly for its focus on the global outlook and school location, as I'd like to make Asia-Pac my focus area. Couple of queries: 1. Could you share some personal experiences and give your opinions on field trips and Alumni engagement. 2. I am keen in making a track change in my career and wanted to know how career services at HKUST would assist me in this. 3. I would appreciate it if you could tell me more on the activities of the tech club and the strategy & consulting club. 4. I've had my first interview, but haven't heard back since. I understand that HKUST is on break for Chinese New Year. Given that the Round 1 results deadline is February 7, should one assume that one is not selected if there is no communication by that date?

Hi everyone.


I am a 2014 passout, planning to give my first GMAT attempt this year.


Profile:10th- 94.6

12th- 89.5

College- 68.2% (Till 7th Sem)


Currently undergoing a Big Data internship project @ IBM.Placed in Deloitte Consulting as a Consultant in Enterprise Risk Services.I am planning to work for 3-5 years before going abroad and pursuing Executive MBA. However, I want to have my scores ready max by June July next year. So I am thinking of giving my first attempt this June or July before I join Deloitte.What I want to know is:

1. Do I have a chance at HKUST with my profile?

2. What would be considered a safe GMAT score?
