I can't see any weakness other than potential underconfidence.
The TLI program is for people as young as yourself. If you are willing to work for a sponsoring company for 3 years after your graduation, your tuition is paid for through a scholarship. Your academics are fine, and hopefully you can get 700+ GMAT or 700+ (Q & V) GRE.
Your career goals make sense, however don't apply to to TLI in order to "get out of somewhere", you "chose" to work with this IT major! Be patient, write a good application, articulate why the TLI program is good for you, and you will get interviewed for it and hopefully cross that gate when you come to it.
All the best

Hi, Thanks for the help.I'll get after this nw.In the mean time, as a back up plan, can u suggest ways to get into a job with top integrated logistics companies in case i dont get accepted this year.I came across DHL GROW programme and also looked up the MAERSK site. They have programs for graduates ,who they train and employ for key positions in future.can you shed some light on these? and also could you please elaborate on the entry level positions that I (an Indian IT male) can possibly apply for(along with the logistics company names) since I have only 1 year experience. Thanks and regards Chetan
I can't claim good knowledge around the critical success factors for admissions to Ph.D programs, but through anecdotal conversations and insights from a couple of friends who have done them......

Thanks a lot, Baccardisprite for the very detailed reply and with ton loads of information!! While my experience and work profile are ok, I fall short in the points where you mentioned that PhD applicants are preferred to have published some paper in some journal, etc. Also, I do not have any particular topic for research as of now. Maybe, once I start researching on schools, some topic of interest may start developing. As of now, all I know is that I am interested, broadly in areas combining Engineering and Management. Anyways, thanks again for the information - it does provide a road map for me to start building on it!
This is great advice. I have understood my options going from here, really appreciate this. I understand that a score of more than 700 in GMAT will help me. I know I have slim chance in the east coast schools I am targeting but I have decided to give everything I got for the Round 2 with the present score. I will explore a re-do of GMAT if I don't succeed.
For starters, you sound underconfident! Nothing prevents you from another crack at the GMAT and crossing 700+, you're nearly there. Prepare and try again. You have the profile to make people take a second look, and hopefully good stories to tell on your essays. Bring yourself to point where schools would find it hard to not interview you. Once you have applied and have been invited to an interview, it's all yours to win / lose.
Good however to see you wanting to retain elements of your past education and skills, employers will appreciate that. Given your interests and passions, you might have to cast a wider net into companies that don't normally come on campus, therefore an off-campus search. You also need access to a network & group of Alumni who are in the careers you mention, entrepreneurship included.
Have you looked at Babson College's FW Olin School's MBA? It's curriculum, delivery, and network is something that would definitely interest you. Granted, not the same "brand" as Yale, Columbia, Stern - but definitely in the same class when it comes to students, faculty and the class of graduates that comes out of there. To attract the right candidates, Babson is also known to offer generous scholarships and graduate assistantships to their MBAs to assis faculty and conduct their own entrepreneurial research. If you have visited, or will visit the NY schools and Connecticut (Yale), make the trip to Babson (Boston) as well.

No idea about the DHL GROW program.
For the Maersk MGLP (formerly known as MISE), you can refer to post number 680 on this thread (Page 68, last post).
I have been lurking on this thread for a very long time and really appreciate your efforts in guiding fellow Puys in exploring international career options...
I needed your expertise as i am also sailing on the same boat as many others on PG...
I am currently working on the retail banking side of an MNC bank for the past 18 months..Educational background includes a PG Diploma in management from Tier 1 college in India and Electrical Engineering from a Deemed university..Also a CFA L2 candidate...
I intend to pursue a Masters program in Finance and would like to pursue my career in the Capital markets / IB side in profiles like fund raising, debt syndication, M&A;,etc..
LBS MIF is definitely on my radar..wanted to know any other options for Masters program which are not heavy on the quant side....
hey hi baccardisprite.....this is an excellent thread i have come across....thanx... I am a B.tech in Civil from VJTI,Mumbai....joined L&T; 6 months back....working in the project management team in the Design Centre for EPC projects..

My 2 cents. I understand that you want a masters degree in finance.
I would recommend you to also look at MBA programs that have a strong finance focus. I am a Chicago Booth alumnus and can definitely talk about the finance strength of Booth. We send a ton of people to the Wall Street for IB (M&A;, debt syndication etc.) roles.
Also, MBA would give you a much broader education and that can help your career prospects in the long term (especially when you would typically be in a leadership role in a financial services organization).
Hope this helps.
-Bhavya (MBA '09 Chicago Booth)
Hi Bhavya..
Thanks a lot for your valuable input..I completely agree with your opinion that an MBA with a strong focus on finance would definitely be a better option than a specialised masters in finance.. With the brand value of Booth i am pretty sure it has far more brighter prospects to offer...
I only have few apprehensions rgearding the same.. 1. I already hold a 2 year PG diploma in mangement which is considered equivalent to MBA in India, so note sure how acceptable would be my case for a second 2 year MBA.
2. Though i am open to 2 year course also but would still prefer a 1 year degree but certainely not by compromising on my career prospects..
Since you are a Booth alum probably you can give me a better perspective...

Strong profile, career goal makes sense. Given you're not changing industry, I would suggest a one year PGDM or MBA with electives in Technology Management, Operations, and Strategy. Join the consulting club (if it exists) in the school you go to... Choices could be:
- IIM A/B/C's PGPX Programs - ISB
The above are best if you're targetting a career in India. If going abroad, choose the best 1 year program in the geography you prefer the most.
- INSEAD, IMD, Oxford or Cambridge in EU - INSEAD in Asia (Singapore) - Ivey or Queens for the Americas

Thanks a lot Baccardisprite. 1 piece of information I missed mentioning is that my preference of location post-masters/MBA is US.Having spent 5.5 years already there. Given this which US school/program do you think I would stand a good chance and would add the required value to my profile. Thanks for your valuable time.

Fair enough.... you can choose the US School from among the below criteria, note however that you're looking at 2 year full time programs:
- Universities having both a top 20 business school and a top 40 engineering school. The engineering schools list should be easily available on a US News and World Report publication (America's Best Graduate Schools 2011). Go through the list of the Top Engineering Schools in Comp Science & Industrial Engineering. Go through the list and look for the Engg schools attached to Universities with the Top business schools.... Reason is simple - the strong engineering schools will normally have something to do with the technology management curricula of the business schools of the same University.
- When you have listed the business schools as above, go to the careers website and look for the companies you'd like to work for (Tech Consulting, High-Tech products, Software or IT)....
- Cull the list to 4-5 schools and apply.
Ivey & Queens (both close to Toronto, Canada) are North America's (including the US) top 1 year MBA programs, so look at those as well. In the US, Cornell, Emory, and Kellogg offer the best known 1 year programs, but have specific eligibility criteria (like having a Bachelor's in Business, Econ or Finance).

PLS HELP BACCARDISPRITE!!!
I believe you are young enough to make the transition to Healthcare professionally first rather than investing in education to do so. So please try and look for a commercial job (even a management trainee) with a major pharmaceutical / biotech company (Reddy, Ranbaxy, Cadila or Pfizer, Abbott, J&J;, Biocon etc).... Learn the ropes of the healthcare industry.
I believe at your age, you need to learn on the job, so would not suggest you to go for any of the above courses until you have a bag of skills, experience and success that your future employer can find attractive, valuable and applicable. That will take at least 4-5 years.
Further down the line, when you have skills to offer (that an education could potentially complement), take the program that fits with your long term goals.

Hi Baccardisprite, I've been lurking around the thread for a while and thank you for providing such valuable advice to all the puys here... I'm fresh out of college... 10th-71.25% 12th-75% B.B.A- 70% in Finance and decent extracurriculars I'll be appearing for FRM L1 & CFA L1 in DEC 2011 and have 4 months of work-ex at this point....i'm looking for a career in finance and wanted to know about some masters courses in finance in the Asian region and is it a good time for me to apply or should i wait a year and gather some more work-ex....and any other courses in finance you would refer i should look into...
I was finding a releavnt thread wherein we could discuss foreign education apart from MBA and bumped into this one.
I am currently working in an Indian IT MNC in banking prodcut domain and seriously interested to take the next step in my career. Work ex - 30 months One of my seniors at work suggested about M.Sc(Management Sci) , a taught programme at London School of Economics(LSE). They have thier rounds of admissions every year.
After going through the curriculum , i also found some relevant Organisational behaviour and international realtions courses (I am seriously interested in HR)
The only doubt i had was regarding the RoI on these courses and the opportunities to come back and work in India once we are done with these.
Tried to go through som initial pages on this thread.. Would go through the rest too.. thought of posting this query meanwhile..
If someone has any info on this.. can you please share. Else can u pls help me navigate to the thread in case the same has already been discussed elsewhere..
