I am currently working in TCS Lucknow for last 1.5 years and I am a 2008 passout.I gave CAT for the first time in 07 while in final year.Got 97.31 with 84 in QA..Recived calls from MDI and IMT.Got waitlisted 350 finally in MDI and converted IMT but did not join.
In 08 was too busy in ILP but gave CAT.Got 98.1 with 55 in DI

highaspirations SaysHigh, Mr. hoardofquests. i'm Akash Goyal, currently pursuing mechanical engineering from NGP university. well, i'd like to know more about your stint with GMAT. also, i'd like to take your take on this- what are the benefits of doing an MBA without any work-ex?? hope to chat with you soon.. take care..
Hey Highaspirations,
My Gmat stint huh! Well what can I say.
When I make up my mind there is no looking back for me. So, on that note here's my story- I have had the best jobs ever in the best companies of the world in the last five years. Needless to say, there ARE an amazing amount of things I learned in that time. I decided this August that it was high time to pursue the full time MBA as I always wanted. (As an aside: the longer you work and get comfortable with the cushion in your bank account, the harder it gets to leave).
Nevertheless, a decision is a decision. I never have nor ever will believe that a Gmat can fully measure an individuals mental capabilities. But that is another story. With that perception in mind, I bought the princeton review - worked on it at random for about a month (brushed up the basics on my own)- went on a vacation - came back - gave the test - got a 500 :). Conclusion - any average guy/gal in touch with acads can score a 500 without any preps.
Trouble is B-Schools take Gmat seriously. So I have decided to take it seriously too, the next time.
Coming to your question. Yes, it is good to have some practical work ex before getting down to learning the theory. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with doing an mba without it. My take however, has always been that u can perform best when u can visualize it. Visualizing a difficult boss during a swot analysis is easier than imagining one :). Just kidding! But it is as simple as that. Dont worry about what kind of work you do, every job teaches you something. You need to learn how to project it positively though.
Let me end this lecture 😃 by saying that the most important thing in anything u do is to have faith in yourself. Keep your aspirations high always. If you dont have a work ex, dont worry. Do well in everything else and you'll be fine.
Cheers.
PS: Lecturing comes naturally to me, request to be excused.
Hi Everyone!
First, I'm definitely not new to PG, having browsed the forum as a guest for the past 2 years... And I've finally taken the initiative to sign up and start posting
A li'l about moi...
I've done my B.E. in Electronics and Communication.
I've been working in Nokia Siemens Networks for the past one and a half years.
I've been dreaming of doing my MBA from a premier institute for the past two years, but every time I've fallen just a wee bit short...
I just hope that joining PG will give me that extra push which I desperately require at this stage! (a month before CAT 2009)
Cheers!
Hi folks,
I am new to pagulguy n found this webpage to be very interesting to make best use of discussions for GMAT preparation. I am scheduled for the exam very soon and haven't joined any classes. Presently, i am not working, though i've experience of more than 5 years in reputed companies.

Hey!!
Well, I'm sure of one fact; if you were to become a lecturer, what an inspiring one you would've been.
Well, I've had a rough ride with the first three years of engineering. Was planning to give CAT this year but, there was news that companies will be trickling down the campus this winter or maybe early next summer. But, no sign of core industries yet. Had to pull up my aggregate to match the criteria. Lost a hell lot of leagues on entrance preps. :banghead:
So, its kinda jumbled up 'coz the core companies i want to get into aren't showing any signs of goodwill. Nonetheless, it was a real pleasure reading your reply.
Will keep writing to you, if you don't mind.
Regards,
Akash.
