HI..wanna know abt the back office jobs in investment banks in India that students get after they r done wid their MBA from mediocre institutes.
I mean how r the growth opportunities , career path , work pressure in back office jobs in inv. banks in India.
Thanx in advance.
jasah Sayshey guys i am new to this site ....nyways in jus a lil fix, i wanted to know about some short term or certificate courses in investment banking...i am already pursuing ca cann nyone help???i also wanted to know is school of investmentbanking in mumbai good?
Short Points:
1. No short term courses / certificates
2. Get a solid CA rank / stay first-attempt clear
3. SIB in Mumbai does not have a reputation. Their quality of curriculum may be good, but good students join schools with great reputations. And this is how reputed schools are an indicator of student quality. And student quality is usually the benchmark for what kind of recruiters come there. By those standards, I see only mediocre KPOs going to SIB.

growth opportunities / career path = like any other KPO job, but restricts you to KPO work unless you're a part of a well-known KPO, like the McK KPO or the GS KPO
work pressure = pretty intense. the work will seem monotonous after a couple of months (but then again, how many jobs can keep it interesting, every single day of your life?)
Hi,
I am currently working as an Analyst in Deloitte. Basically into statutory Audit of US based firms. I primarily into IB clients. Some of the clients I worked across different verticals of IB are:
Mutual Funds: American Funds, Fidelity, Blackrock
PE:Blackstone, Blackrock, Apollo
Hedge FUnds: Tiger Partners, Makena,etc....
Do you think my experience in the audit of these clients for around 3yrs will help me get into top IB firms provided if I get into a top B school?
Hi i am also targetting d enter into IB firm but wt i have recevied my profile is not fit into the RA position.
I have done with L1 in Risk management and also completed Costing Inter....Even though one of d KPO(wel-Known)firm told that i am nt fit into their Junior Research analyst position as iam bit overr Quali and for research analyst position i am Under Quali.LolZZZZZ...Wt 2 do?? I am working with the big 4 consulting for the last 1yr..

Wat if I get a back office job in Morgan Stanley or JPMC?
Still limited growth opportunities?

Without B-school: you could get in by interviewing at middle-market investment banking firms across Mumbai
With a top B-school: definitely!

I'm sorry, what you need is career counselling. I'm no expert on KPOs.

Post-MBA, your opportunities get limited to KPOs. There is a slight possibility that you could look at small IB firms or middle-market IB firms.
However, that being said - once again, I am no expert on KPOs. I'm here to help people understand investment banking as an activity. Career counselling is outside my scope.

CA+CFA will get you nowhere. The CFA is 'nice' to have, but not something that will help you switch careers.
For your other questions, you should read my earlier posts

rather than age, my concern would be that you've picked up too much IT experience and might not make a clean transition to IB. (we pick up the bad habits of the jobs that we're in for too long)
Hi,
I am going to MDI this year with 21 months exp in IT. Can I get into IB if I opt for finance? Generally I have seen people getting IB profile if they have done from IIM A-B-C. Is there any difference in profile?
Hi,
I've got an offer from from copal partners for the post of equity research analyst, the profile seems appealing. But can some share info as to what would their compensation would be ?
i've got 1 year of prior experience.

If you have got an offer from a company, they should have also sent you their compensation package they are offering. If not, you are well within your rights to ask for it before deciding, if they have indeed made you an "offer".

Firstly, congrats for your convert!
As has been discussed earlier in the thread, IBD front office profiles are offered mainly to the top 3 IIMs in India with some banks going to couple of other B-schools, because of alumni power. Foreign banks will offer mostly middle-office/back-office profiles in other B-schools, while some Indian banks may offer IBD profiles. However, all this depends on individual B-schools and their "pulling power" - so you would get exact information if you contact individual B-school students/alumni.

Yes, it is difficult, but not impossible. As jamiroquai said, companies will have the basic question of "why finance now after 5 years of working? it probably means you just dislike IT and want to try your hand in finance, without any reason/passion for it - difficult to find connect". So getting a shortlist would be difficult unless you have an awesome profile and then you have to do an awesome job of convincing interviewers about why suddenly one fine day after 5 years of working in IT, you want to go into a completely different area. Also, you would be starting at the same level with freshers often with your boss being a lot younger to you as you learn the ABC of Finance - so the company might be worried about whether you can be a fit to the team/company.
Thanks for d Reply,
so,what exactly shld i do to enter into d Finance domain.I mean, what profile shld i make in order to convince interviewer that i m really interested in gttng into dis domain.Shld i start preparing for CFA or ny oder xam..so dat it looks little convicing frm my side..
