not only is it a status thing, but it's also that those hired at boutiques are not looked at as having the quality and standard of exposure as those who've been at BBs
Ah!. It comes down to status again....

All these firms probably hired people as credit analysts. This is a role that most analysts look to escape after a couple of years because the hours are bad and your boss keeps eating your brains about deadlines. This would be tolerale if they paid you well - but the pay really really sucks. If you have a really positive attitude, you could do this for about 5 years before you lose it. However, once you figure it out - this is a great job for those who want to maximize job security and salary.
Hii Jamiroquai
1.can u please tell what is the growth for a mba starting off as a credit analyst?
2.also u say that pay sucks.at wat pay normally does one start as a credit analyst?also what pay does one get after working as credit analyst for like 4-5 years?" />

hey cool_rohan, i don't mean to be abrupt, but:
a. the thread is for investment banking related information - such as analysis of deals done, whats investment banks and bankers do and other things that you would ordinarily not find in an open forum
b. the thread is not for career counselling
c. credit analysis is not connected to investment banking - it is closer to lending and rating
The reason for the above 3 points is that I do not want to comment on things that I am not conversant in. Any advice I could give to those questions might not be accurate and you may be misled.
Hey
Can you tell me which investment banks have significant operations in india? Like you said, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley give hongkong, singapore, london desks. Which Bulge bracket firms give mumbai desk?

By significant operations, I will assume that you are implying front-office operations. These are the banks that I know have front-office ops:
1. Bank of America - Merrill Lynch
2. JP Morgan
3. Citi
(I do not consider Nomura to be bulge despite the fact that they've acquired Lehman - thats because they've not yet entered even the top 15 on the league tables on any product yet)
Thanks. That should clear the air for a lot of people who think xyz college has its students placed in investment banking.
And for others who are in doubt, they should check out JP Morgan Chase's website. Some profiles are listed. Most of the people in investment banking involved in front office ops are from IIMs. Mostly ABC.
@Abhi76 and Jamiroquai
We can also consider SBI caps as domestic IB??
Let us know some more domestic IBs in case I have missed any.

Can you please explain what the numberings or the league table actually are ?
because I think you mentioned earlier too that you got your summer in league table # 3 bank.

yes. there are too many domestic IB firms that I know (as well as am unaware of) to list here

League tables are combined by business publications. They are a ranking system for market participants based on how much deal volume they have done. (A bank with 1 deal of $100 mn ranks higher than a bank with 99 deals $1mn each)
League tables are compiled for each and every market activity in banking and finance such as loan issues, bond issues, high-yields, IPOs, M&A; activity, etc. In fact, Bloomberg does a fantastic job of making real-time league table information available at your finger tips.

I don't think so.

It will be hard afaik. You will probably end up in middle office/back office of some bulge bracket, especially since NITIE is known for operations.
However it's best to check your alumni. If anyone has made it, they would be the best guide.
Jamiroquai may be able to assess better perhaps.
Can anyone tell me which college b/w MDI and Jamnalal Bajaj will provide a better scope as far as finance is concerned? I know both are very good and there is very little to choose b/w them. I am yet to convert JB but have to make a decision coz JB result will come very late(after I have joined MDI).
Hey, I saw your message earlier and decided not to reply because I am not a 'mathematical finance' person. But I would like to tell you that you are getting a lot of things mixed up. Maths graduates do join finance and that is why they are so highly paid in some of the biggest HFs and prop shops on the wall street. you will be surprised to see Phd in finance and economics being a criteria for some of the positions. Also, when you say fin managers who are doing this doing that I think your sample set is restricted to only those people they show on television giving 'trade ideas'. In a lot of HFs & Prop shops, a lot of mathematical models and algorithmic trading is being used. In fact I talked to a senior person from Chicago Mercantile Exchange and he was surprised to see how/why in India we are still trading manually in some of the most volatile markets in the world.
What kind of right info ?
When you say interest rate has fallen I presume you mean American and European interest rates. It necessitates a free flow of money and increased liquidity but I am pretty sure it does not force any one to take more risk. It allows them to.
In MBA/CFA they do not prepare you to be a trader and probably that is why. I would like you to again please define what kind of finance managers you are talking about.
And hey, It will always be a cycle. both the parts are 'necessary'. We have to ride the boom and survive the bust.
a fund/financial mngr s nothin but a "very prudent trader" oprtin on smbdyelse's behalf.....(remembr, return s de mst importnt thin wy evrybdy s here)
bt in fin, prudency = maths...vry logicl and with algorthm n all...
but mrket(evry market...not jst stock mrkt) s sensitive 2 nybdy/evrybdy...(logicl/illogicl/mathemeticl/behaviourial...blah blah)
in hindsight...if we assume tht the guys handlin CDO r CDS didnt do their maths proprly...we r being too naive....
they mst hv hd sm default rate/default probability.....but jst tht their model didnt work 'coz majority behaved irrationally...(plz google all de modern day busts till date n u 'll find dat models used in boom

intrst rates hv fallen all across de globe.....try comparin indiviually n not vis a vis, in longer trm....
the prob. s dat the axioms of "efficient market"{it s on which mst f de models n theories r based on} dnt hold gd everytime...infct, de sheldom hold gd...
very well put tht "ride the boom n survive de bust"

bt mathematiclly speakin..a bust would appear in evry 80000 yr......but i hope u hv seen the trend.....mind u, ridin the boom is fr easier dan SURVIVIN BUST...we wont even brk even at 1 boom=1 bust (ratio mst b mre dan tht)
f we argue as fans of fin den there s no end 2 it.....(evn i m 1)
bt my point s dat behavioral finance s becmin more importnt than mathmeticl 1...
p.s.-wont argue ny further as it would not solve the purpose the thread
hmm...purpose....guides us ..defines us.....drives us.....

Where do you think Quants (Quantitative financial analyst) specially Algo Trading Quants (Quantitative analyst - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) fit into IB scene?
Are they in Front, Mid or Back Office?
Lastly, it seems to me that you are stressing on M&A; operations in I-Banks, are Sales and trading (S&T;) and Research also an important operation of an I Banks, even in Front office?
I am more interested in Quant type of job, is it really an I-Bank operation and most importantly, do they get their bonuses from the same pool as the "bankers" get?
