ISB Class of 2014 aspirants.

Is there any trend that says the applicants shortlisted and called for IVs are generally/roughly in ascending order of their app ref nos, or even the app verification email comes roughly in that order....?

does the adcom call both the evaluators? What do they generally ask? Does it affect the app even if written recos have been good?

@samboy123 it wasnt your fault if recession stuck at that time... just explain the real reason along with what did you do during this time (how you improved, contributed or did something constructive). This would reflect very positively on your application
@DN2686 even my case is similar. I was planning to enter IT with a Chemical engg background and owing to recession, there were no freshers' vacancies in the year. I did s/w course in the meanwhile to create base for a switch (= approx 1 year after graduation). worked in a small project based setup for a few months only. still 9 months gap to explain until I got a proper IT job. Will it turn the app into -ve?
@MissWorld Well then you did something about it... bring out this aspect in your application - that inspite of all the hardships and unfavorable circumstances you did your best. This is what you should be focusing on. I mean you worked and gained some useful experience and made the best of the situation... this is a very positive thing about you as a person bring this out in the application..
If the spreadsheet is to be believed, I don't think there are more than 1200-1300 applicants for R1.
Assuming there will be at least 250-300 offers for R1, which means at least 500 interviews (assuming a maximum conversion ratio of 1:2?), does that mean around half of the applicants will get IV calls?
Can someone with more knowledge/ experience on ISB stats throw some light on the correctness of my calculations pls?
@DN2686 thanks for the feedback!!

If I remember correctly...the selection ratio at ISB is 1:5:9 ...that is for every 9 applicants ... 5 get called for an interview and 1 gets admitted finally...
Btw dont go the by the excel sheet....there wud be many silent observers here on PG and add to that the guys who are not on PG....my guess is that the Number shud be around 1800...
You can do the rest of the calculations

This means that the interviews at ISB are really a toughnut to crack so guys stop wasting time anymore and start preparing for the interviews...

I think that ratio was when ISB had 400 odd seats with 4K applications.. That works out to be 2000 odd interviews and final selection of 400 students.. The irony now is the number of apps that ISB receives havent changed but seats are doubled.. With 4k apps and nearly 1.8-2k interviews virtually every second guy would make it to ISB from interview( assuming with 800 seats ISB rolls out 900 odd final admits assuming that 10%dont join )...so im sure that this ratio would have changed a lottttt and i strongly believe if u can get an interview call ur changed of conversion is very high unless ISB decides to interview almost everyone who applies πŸ˜ƒ

To get a clear idea of the elective course contents, it it enough to go through the elective details on ISB website? how should one do a thorough research for a particular elective?

@nik864u

adi_manish Please add me and share more details about same

The best way to find out is by talk to current students or recent alumni.

But I am just curious to know why you want to do a thorough research on an elective. If you want to study this elective and want to know what it covers, then its alright.

But if you want to talk about it in the essay, as a reason to go to ISB, then I suggest you don't take up too much space on it. Many applicants land up writing general statements about a particular aspect of the b-school, when they have picked up their knowledge about it from the b-school site itself. So remember to personalize whatever information you get to know - why would this course help you in particular.

@mba-help thanks Namita. My only concern is when I have to choose an elective, i should clearly know what it contains. this is not for the essays. this is for my knowledge.

I like your optimism...I wish it were that simple...

Yeah thats what i meant .. Its not as simple as 9:5:1.. Under current scenario
