My 0.02$ Your acads are good..get a decent GMAT score. Your workex will be around 3 when you apply,so its fine. You have to highlight the achievements in your work profile..your leadership qualities. Finally, define a goal for yourself and how ISB would help you achieve it. Be very clear about this.
Guys, I learnt a lot from pagalguy and it is time for me to contribute to this thread - in whatever way I can.
I am R2 admit for Class 2013 HYD campus. My profile: 7+ years of IT exp (2 year in project management) 740 GMAT. EC - OK Ok
I would try to visit this thread regularly however in case any urgent help required please PM me.
Few things I want to share: I got 3 rejects without interview and got into ISB with first attempt (My first preference). So My take away is do not feel dejected because of rejects - it makes you ready for accept.
Congrats on your admit!
Looking back to my profile takes me to the cliched concern of being IIM...mustang and myself in the same boat from that perspective. I believe that because of huge number of applicants from IT , a lot of desrving candidates got a ding ...that too in the R2. I know people from R1 with much less GMAT-score from IT got thru. However, every candidacy is subjective. But, the problem boils down to : how to make one IT profile unique? As Ravi got thru , should we assume that they are looking for more experinece and leadership role as far as IT profile is concerned?
work ex till now ( i mean till may-june 2012 when i wish to apply ): 3 years in telecom sector
excellent extracurricular activities.
i want to know 2 things:
1.) should i wait till R2 admit so that my work ex will be more 2.) my graduation college is Amity University so will that make a difference. i mean whether College name does make a difference in selection.

1) Applying in r2 will get you 3 months of work ex. If you think that will add value to your professional experience (you get a promotion by that time or so...)then you can go for R2. 2) College name absolutely doesnt make any difference in my opinion except if you are from IIT. So there is IIT and non-IIT. Among non-IIT there is no distinction. I graduated from the 2nd best Engg. college in WB (Jadavpur Univ. ...it some after IIT KGP) but I have seen people from Private Engg. colleges get into where I (and a few more i know from same univ. ) got a REJECT. So each and every application is subjective. College name as such doesnt score point.

thanks for the reply.
by concern for applying in R2 was because i would be going for an onsite work for 3-4 months . So maybe i could mention that as well.
but i read the previous posts saying that it is really difficult in R2 for eng background guys and little easier in r1.

they would conside ur workex until march 2013. so i think u should not wait for r2. according to me we have better prospects in r1 than r2. but thats just my thots.

Firstly, if you are abroad , you can arrange skype i/v. Secondly , you are kind of right in saying R2 is little difficult for engg./IT or telecom guys. Although I do not have enough data to substantiate this fact. However, I now get a gutfeelings that if I would apply in R1 this year , I might have got a different mail from ISB . Anyway , you have to take a call as to whether you want to highlight international exp. - in that case you have to tke the chance or else go for R1. Hope this helps.
I am not the right person as I yet to join ISB. I know it is frustrating to people seeking answers and hence without being diplomatic I will try to say what I feel (Correct or not I cannot say).
Here is my analysis: Good grads and good GMAT should help you further - I strongly believe that GMAT is not everything but very important factor.
Experience is on lower side but in next one year you will gain more and hence should help you further. Try to focus on your post MBA goals and have some story relating to that ready.
I will say since you have ~ 9 months to apply again - Please work on gap analysis and work on that.

I agree to your point. I think (my personal opinion) my project management experience helped me a lot in distinguishing from other IT fellows. I am in pure project management from last 2 years and both of my achievements came from there.
I would suggest for IT fellows that if you want to distinguish yourself from others there are 2 ways: 1) Get into more management role - I really believe it helps 2) Get into out of professional experience where you can show leadership skills.
I do not know how much it contributed but I was asked about my leadership skills in interview - I had arranged for the training of all new comers in my BU (even though I am not directly responsible for their KRA/development) and I highlighted this.
I think these kind of experience really helps - in profession or outside of it.
Also try to get the promotion in your company - I personally believe it helps in differentiating as getting promotion without job change is little tricky and I hope adcoms are aware of that and appreciate that.
Congrats on your admit!

Oki, personal opinion.........as an IIM, unless your achievements are effing AWESOME, it will sound like just any other guy's story. See, with enough experience, you are bound to have management responsibilities, but stress A LOT on that only if they are unique and out-of-this-world. Most important, your story should refelect what you LEARNT out of that experience. It might be something trivial to the world, but awesome on your professional/personal fronth.
My two achievements were both from non-professional (one community involvement, and the other extracurricular). So, it's not necessary that professional brilliance on paper/practice will translate into success, unless you seriously understand the implications of those experiences.
Few + - Good acads, excellent EC - How much excellent - do you have leadership skills in that? What about professional leadership?
Few - = Not so good GMAT (I mean with IT/telecom 710 is not that great).
Do not wait for R2 - go for kill in R1. College matters if it is IIT - otherwise everything is same.
thanks for the advice
i will elaborate my EC. i have 6 years senior diploma degree in Tabla which i used to start a band (indo-classical) and take part tyme classes for the young kids. i have a black belt in tae kwon-do( martial arts) though i did not use it but have spent 8 years in this.
apart from those few hobbies and few personal feats
professional life has been fyn according to me. achieved the feat of getting a spot award in the company . got the award fr the brightest IP emerging engineer in my company.
what should be a safe side GMAt score. ? coz i was scoring gud in my mocks messed by english in gmat exam .should i give again.?
So here I am back in the new thread, hope to apply in R1 but before that I would prefer to see what I get in the feedback mail. I will hopefully be able to convince my manager that I deserve the promotion so that should help when I apply again :)
As for the puys meet at Stones, please count me in, soubhik ji, please add my name in the list since I am unable to access googledocs from office.
All the best to all puys striving to get into ISB for the Co2014, lets rock this thread, and help everyone get into ISB !
The 700+ club.. let me know of the good books that can be referred to.. Assuming 1. I can devote 2 hours per day and 3+ on weekends.. and 2. Want to give the exam before June and 3. Am gud in QA (49).. (Mock scores were always in this range..47-49) am average in Verbal (31).. (Although my English is good, I still don't know how I got 31.. In the mocks I would in the 37 and 40 range) In the exam,I started the section 5 mins late bcoz I was late to get back from my break. :banghead: 4. I am really not happy with the Manhattan/Kaplan/Princeton mocks.. Which are the good mocks to give..??
FINALLYYY,, how do you suggest that I keep my focus in the 4 hour marathon?and what the hell to eat/drink during breaks?
Anddd here I come.... for the Co2014... I gt dinged this time and here's my profile:
Male-27Yrs, Marine Engineer, presently at the rank of 2nd Assistant engineer, already have the necssary number of recommendations for the promotion to 1st Assistant Engr, only need to clear the exams which I did not appeared for as I was confident of getting into Co2013 :banghead:
GMAT-710 (Q-49, V-38, AWA-5.5) EC: Pretty decent, no community work though, but represented college in various Cricket and Football tournaments) Organized a few culturals in college....
Interview Experience: It was a pretty cool interview (or so I thought) and the panelists seemed to be pretty convinced with the answers..... gave me a case study too with lots of cross questioning on every solution provided by me..... I guess the basic point where i messed it up is "Why MBA?". See my basic reason here is that I want to shift to a land based job and not wander around like pirates but for the obvious reasons I cant state that to the adcom.... but that would have also affected my future goals part.... anyways would come to know abt the actual points only after I get the feedback ....
Anyways, it's just a start of a long journey again..... but i'm sure with the fellow puys, the journey would be again as beautiful as will be the sweet destination and we sure will make it this time....
Do the Essay topics change every year?? What are the advantages/disadvantages for a re-applicant?
Finally, what all is humanely possible for a guy to change in 6 months or so in his profile? 6 months or so is the time left for R1 application..
First, the essays do not change. But for the CO2013, it made the 3rd essay mandatory which was not the case a year before that. Also since we become re-applicants, we have to write one more essay (reapplicant essay). And that makes 4 essays to write.
Secondly, Believe me, ISB is one of the most friendliest reapplicant Bschool. Many disadvantages if u do change things on your profile. At the same time it can be a dual edged sword if no drastic improvements.
Finally, I was thinking the same and this led me to think if I should apply to R2 for which i will have 9 months to fill in the gaps in my profile (i haven't decided yet). The best thing will be to seek a feedback asap. You already have sought one, so I would request all other reapplicants to request one ASAP. That should be the basis of your gameplan. What to do in the next 6 or 9 months. No point thinking over it now until we get our feedback.
Plz evaluate my profile . I am planning to appear for GMAT this year.

Pinto, really believe me when I say we will not be able to evaluate your profile. If we were to do so correctly then this thread would not have reapplicants like me. However, post April, you can seek a counselling session with ISB who will tell you what all you need to know. Coming to the Work exp counting part, for CO2014 it will be till 31st March 2013.

If you are really serious on ur reapplication.. read the feedback and act on their suggestion and apply in R1... You will be given preference and all by ISB
I would push my GMAT past June as my CFA L2 is in June.
ANyone planning to re-take the GMAT?
