Considering my low extra cur, academics, what are my chances?
How much GMAT score will be needed to counter that?

Hi Anuj,

Congrats bhai........

I have one more question...will doing CFA level 1 help to improve my profile if I will target for 2015
Hey thanks guys !! overwhelmed by the response πŸ˜ƒ
The kind of career track I had till now ..touch wood is pretty good. the real hardship comes now. The next level roles/ opportunities are the ones at VP/director level where most well-known International firms need applicants with strong workex and a top tier MBA. why not outside India? My post MBA plans features India/Asia( SGP/HK) very strongly and schools such as ISB, IIM A/B/C have some solid recognition here.
As you guys probably know all these courses(CA/CWA/CMA) are distance education based with no interaction with faculty/peer group. What an MBA from top tier school will give me is an unparalleled faculty/peer group interaction, a very strong alumunus backing and a structured learning ground that i always lacked.

i'm sure with my background I can certainly add some value to a Bschool and in turn learn a lot from fellow diverse background students.

well dude.. that answers the 'Why MBA' question very well.
Would suggest that you write to ISB post April end to get a counselling session done and get another viewpoint on your app.

All the best. Cheers.

ISB Class of 2014 aspirants,

My name is Roshan and I am an ISB alum from the Class of 2011

To help prospective students on their journey, I had started an initiative while I was at school called ISBConnect to help connect prospective students with current students. I had also created a thread on the PG forum to help prospective students with any questions or doubts that they had. You will benefit from visiting the following link and reading through all the discussions.

ISB Connect

I encourage all of you to continue to post your queries on the ISBConnect thread so that it can remain as a one-stop repository for everything ISB. Alums answer all queries on that thread.

All the best to all of you on your journey! Feel free to reach out to me for any help you many need. You can PM me.

Best,

Roshan

Happy Holi guys..........have an awesome one πŸ˜ƒ

mentioning this thread here for linking.

Hi All,
I am attaching below another of our feedbacks to an ISB applicant who was rejected after interview. The purpose of this post is to benefit not just re-applicants, but also people who would be writing essays for the first time. Hopefully, some of the insights here will help you to refine your own essays more when you get down to writing them.
Read On:
Applicant Profile:
GMAT - 680/4
3 + years of work experience with a global management consulting firm, good career progression
Graduation - Mechanical engineering
Good extra curricular achievements
Essay 1 :The applicant had selected two achievement stories from his work at the consulting company. While the stories in themselves were good, yet he could have better described the actions he took to make the situations successful.
The reader will appreciate your responses to a behavioral situation more if he/she knows the challenges you faced and the steps you took, to overcome them. This can be a tall task considering ISBs word limit of 150 words for each achievement essay, but its all about prioritizing your information.
Essay 2 of ISB (career goals), according to me is the most important of the lot. The applicant goes wrong here. As he already belongs to the consulting industry, he is expected to know how his career will pan out within the industry, in the next 3-5 years.
Going wrong on the future career path (which is very well defined in consulting firms) shows that you do not have an insiders perspective about your industry and have not done any research either. And this can be a big reason for a ding.
Essay 3 The applicant had talked about his volunteering efforts in this essay, but it failed to create an impact as it had too many short examples listed.
Many applicants use this essay to showcase their all and sundry community achievements. Our take is that your giving back to the community (which most Indian applicants have learned since childhood) needs to show real involvement, in order to make any impact. So concentrate on 1, maximum 2 solid examples and then go on to say how they will be relevant at ISB.
Additionally, dont think of a community effort theme as a must-include within your applications. You may have excelled at something else (a hobby or an interest)- talk about that instead. However, maintain its relevance to the ISB application.
To summarize, passion shows in details be it in the achievement essays, or the career goals or the community efforts. So, dont miss out the crucial details.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If anyone else is interested in figuring out possibilities that could have led to a reject, please do send us your profile details as well as set of essays for any one b-school (in word format please), and we will get back to you with our feedback.

Yaaron,

Having working in IT since 5 years as PeopleSoft Administrator... Dont know how to create a good profile.. My co curricular activities are that i have been into only dancing ,became choreographer (not at all famous though ) I have started dance school with my partners since 2008 and its running successfully now.
Please put in some genuine thoughts and points for my profile.

Exhausted from the heavy dose of PG in the run up to the results (I was dinged with no interview for the C02013 for folks who joined recently!) I took a break for about 2 weeks and I see the page count is already 50+. I bet this thread will cross a mammoth 20000 posts by R2 in 2013! LOLz.

While at this has anyone who has sought a response from ISB heard anything yet? I know ISB announced this will be available in Apr, but still thought I will check!

Some admission consultants are providing feedback about rejections, though mind you that this is not official feedback from the ISB ad-com. You can check this post for more details: http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/international-indian-mba-schools-accepting/showpost.php?p=3320810&postcount;=659

Seeing the above, I don't think you need a coaching institute to crack the GMAT.
Only help the classroom coaching might provide is to maintain the momentum of your preparation. But dude, If you want it bad enough you won't need that push from someone else.
All the best.

I subscribe to the facts above but one advantage i personally felt with classroom or online coaching is that they have faculty appear for GMAT and give similar questions in the classes. I am speaking out of my experience because when i gave gmat first time i saw some quant questions which were later taught in classes.

Posting it again...had posted in some other thread....

I am also planning to apply for ISB this year.
Have 9 yrs of experience 7 yrs automotive and 2 yrs software. 3yrs international.
Avg acads 10th and 12th. 75% 10th and 78% in 12th.
BE 63 %. Does ISB consider average of all 4 years of BE or final year is good enough.
Havent taken GMAT yet. What score should I be targeting? Dont know if I have a strong profile. Comments welcome
GMAT score Higher the better but still ....

Singhsid, Thanks for the clarification - maybe I should have mentioned it in my posts.

I lot of applicants and reapplicants write to us asking for profile evaluation as well as for reject feedback. We have just gone ahead and moved our feedbacks in the public domain and we hope to cover applications not just for ISB, but for other b-schools as well.

So I would also urge all applicants to take feedbacks from b-schools directly (where it is provided), while using our analysis as another perspective that they have easy access to (through the PG forum!) and can help them improve their applications.

Yaar.. A successful dance school thats been running for 4 odd years is a great achievement.
Regarding work, how did you face challenging situations, some difficult decisions you took, mentoring team members, improved quality of the product,improved/intorduced new process.
Someone told me, that no task you did is big or small, what matters is the passion you did it with, the impact it had on you and the passion with which you can present it to the adcom.

Only my suggestions yaar..

Heard this from an ISB counsellor once (i hve talked to a couple).. If you have a good GMAT, your average grads are compensated. If you have a good GMAT score, you need not worry bout the BE percentage.
GMAT, you should target 700+ for sure..

another thing with GMAT is.. get a balanced score in Quant and Verbal..

P.S: This is what I hve heard from a lot of folks who hve been thre, done tht and are now headed to ISB.

Does joining classes for GMAT make sense? Please share your experience if you joined classes like IMS , career forum etc...if it makes sense....which r the good ones?
