ISB Class of 2014 aspirants.

What is the difference between IT strategy consulting and IT consulting ? I searched on google but was not satisfied. One aspirant was asked related to this.

@raghupro , I am a bit apprehensive about placements and I think the smaller the pool the better, need to be and learn with people who can be there for you when required and you for them..but yah diversity wise it sounds good.
I think ISB already has more number of job offers than the number of students as many students get multiple offers and I am quite sure ISB's reputation is good enough to maintain no of students to number of jobs ratio in a similar manner even if the intake strength increases.

Also confining ourself to a standard group through out the one year will not really help us gain much. We should be able to leverage from any student in the time of need, I hope everyone will be helpful enough! :)
@GameIsOn2806 Although I dont think there is any standard differentiation and in a lot of cases the terminology is used interchangeably, my take is that the difference is really the scope of the engagement.

IT strategy consulting engagements typically tend to be organization or division wide activities. For e.g. defining technology roadmaps, defining organization level process, IT vendor identification, strategic analysis of the market the organization is playing in, etc. Firms like Mckinsey and other consulting firms have their presence in this space part from the standard IT consulting firms like Accenture, Capgemini etc.

IT consulting on the other hand is typically for a particular project or a group of related projects. They are done for a particular initiative for a business group and even involve tactical components like project delivery or execution. The general consulting firms like Mckinsey dont typically play in this space and is dominated more by firms like Accenture, Sapient, IBM, Capgemini etc.

These are just my thoughts and definitely not industry standards. Would love to hear more opinions on this :)

Has everyone received the confirmation mail or are some people still out there who are yet to receive it ?

@muksmba

  1. Strategy consultants assist with operational issues in business such as re-structuring, diversification, performance improvement, and expansion, cost reduction, market or product development. These tend to be domain agnostic. Meaning the underlying issues are un-related to industry verticals. IT Domain consulting is about assisting clients with implementing projects, systems or processes related to industry verticals.

This is what I got as reply in another forum.

Your reply is on the same lines. You are right many a times people interchange these two terms but there is difference.

There is strategy consulting not only in IT but in other domains such as HR, marketing and others.

What are the tentative dates for DELHI interviews???

Does ISB Mohali offers elective in Information and Technology ?

At one place on the website, they have included the Information and Technology elective and on other they have not.

http://www.isb.edu/PGP/ISBMohaliCampusFAQ.Shtml FAQ No. 9 Not mentioned

http://www.isb.edu/PGP/ElectiveCourses-Mohalicampus.Shtml Mentioned

If someone from current batch can confirm on this ...it will be great.

I have given Hyderabad as the campus preferrence and need to come up with some solid justification for the same. Any good justification ? I want to major in Information and technology. I had seen the first link only (where Information and Technology is not mentioned) so thought of choosing Hyderbad. Now I have seen this second link. 😞

660.....
