ISB Class of 2014 aspirants.

Hi All,

Hope someone can give me a feedback about my profile. Here are the key points :

1. IIT B Graduate. 2010
2. I have been working with JSW group for the last 2 years. I practically run a blast furnace for the group. Have not worked on any project. Sole responsibility of the job is to produce steel and I work in shifts.

3. GMAT - 730.

4. ECs - Not good at all. Spend most of the time watching sitcoms and movies. No other activity.

I do want to apply for ISB this year. And would like to know how can I improve my profile.

we r in the same boat w.r.t. ECs

hi all,
My profile:

10th: 89
12th: 91

BE: 8.73

Work Exp: 3 years next June(2013) in IT

Not much EC...
So please suggest a good score for GMAT and What extra to add value to my application...

hello ,
sorry if I look immature with my doubts but I am very new to GMAT world and looking forward to you all for your suggestions :

here goes my profile -

Xth - 91%
XIIth- 87%
b.tech from NIT - 8.43/10
work experience - 2 years (till june 2013) in a maharatna company .
ec - average

i would be very thankful if you could give your valueable suggestions on :
1. how to get some good ecs , and how much importance it has ...if not ... would it suffice to get a good gmat score ... can it compensate for an average ec ?
2. how much is a good gmat score ?

Can anyone share ISB essays and also recommendation letter format?

Thanks !!

Hi All,
Did any one got any feedback reply from ISB?....I have also written, wanted to check if dey have started sending the feedback

Hi Puys,
Unsuccessful attempts at Cat have left me clueless. Want to write GMAT, and apply to ISB this year. Plan to take GMAT in first week of july and apply in R1. Here is a brief summary of my profile :
10th - 88.4
12th - 88.2
Grad(B.Tech computer science from Nitk Surathkal) - 8.32
Work ex - around 3 years(as of now). 2 years at Cisco as a software engineer and then shifted to the finance domain, working with a finance major, in a software role though.
EC - not much. Debates, extempores and dramatics at school and college level. Was in committees organizing tech fest and cultural fest at college. (Don't have certificates for all though)
Have a question here. How do i prove that i did all that ?
Hobbies - sketching apart from usual cricket, reading and music.

It'd be great if ya could evaluate my profile.

ISB does not ask for certificates at the time of interview.. So if you think that those activities were of substantial importance, you can include them in your app..

For now, get an awesome GMAT score.. Then we will all talk about the profile build up.
ALso get in touch with ISB ([email protected]) to get an official profile evaluation done. They will fix you up with a counsellor as well. Really helps.

Cheers.
Wattup guys??? BTW, most of you out here don't really know me, so hello to all.......... πŸ˜ƒ Do tell me how your preps are shaping up.........feel free to connect with me...........

Hi Frenz,
New to pagalguy forum..Hello to all....:D ..Here is my profile

W.E 4.2Years(IT)
B.tech- 70.6%
12th- 61%
10th -70%

Working part time with Plan India NGO for the past 2.6years.....

Now planning to go for ISB with good GMAT score......

Does my profile matches the ISB requirement, What would be the good score to apply?

Reply back with some suggestion

Thanks in advance

Good score is 700+ .. Will keep you on the safe side since you are from IT pool..

Be clear about your goals post MBA for starters. Their is no profile requirement in ISB as such..
BUt their should be something to make you stand out from the crowd.
Yeah tricky situation....I am repenting why didnt I apply in R1 this year :banghead:

anyway , I have got thru XLRI GMP. Planning to join XLRI beacuse :
1. Not sure about ISB feedback. If something to be worked on , the I have to apply R2 when competition is more. If its something thats manageable in 3 months, then also a percentage of uncertainty remains.
For me this is te high time for MBA.
2. XLRI has healthy batch size of 120 ..not a mammoth one as 770...
3.Fee is little less..

And finally...loved XLRI more than any IIM (got a call from XL last year couldnt convert :()

Puys pour in your opinions..

All the best brother.. XLRI is a great place to be. Cheers.

Verbal is where you need to concentrate.. Quant is relatively simple (compared to CAT and XAT standards)..
Get Manhattan Sentence Correction for Verbal..
If you want to work at the real difficult problems, get Kaplan 800.. You can get a few concepts for CR from it as well.

You can browse through the pages of this forum more some more advise.. and their are GMAT prep. forums doing the rounds in PG.. They r of help too.

Going OK mate.. the problem when I seem to build up momentum some urgent work comes up.. :nono: Momentum goes and I have to start again.

Someone somewhere does not want me to give the GMAT again.

same thing happens with me. started preparation well, then office escalations came up, then again picked up pace some personal work(couldn't be delayed further) popped up, and now its just 3 days to gmat and fell sick and on medication (amid manager calling/texting me work stuff even though i am official leave):nono:.

I look at the new IR section as an opportunity.Firstly, you get rid of one essay just before the 800 pound guerrilla that acts as a deterrent for many.Secondly, you have an IR section before quant. This gets you in the calculative mode before you even begin the quant section. It spares some valuable time that you give to the first 5-6 que. in quant getting accustomed. This time proves to be precious in the end, even if its under a minute. Moreover, IR section is new for every test taker.Asians, being good at quant and reasoning, would be at slight advantage in early days of IR,since GMAC does not have the any benchmark in the initial part other than the recent test taker's scores.Though,GMAC would update your IR percentile,as more and more data is available with them. Also, taking GMAT with the new IR sections also proves, till a certain point ,that you are not afraid of any challanges that GMAC throws at you and i believe any B-school would take that in positive light.

P.S.: This are my personal opinions.Any counter-point is welcome.I am through with my GMAT with a decent score but if i were to take it again, i would have preferred it with the new IR section.:)
