ISB Class of 2014 aspirants.

hello folks.. need some expert help..

How is the new IR section of the GMAT? :sneaky:
Is it better than the looooong essay? :nono:
Will it freak you out even before the damn exam starts? :sneaky:

Any suggestions by absolutely anoyne are welcome.

Cheers.!!

Yo Mustang ,

For starters, the brief points on IR are that --:

1. It will be similar to the DI questions in CAT albeit slightly more on the calculations side. There are about 4 types of questions and 12 prompts. You can read more in detail in the Manhattan GMAT blogs.
2. A GUI based simple calculator will be provided for IR and can be used if needed.
3. As far as I have read about the IR, the IR section is not adaptive in nature. I do not recall the exact source of this information but I will cross-check and update on this piece of information.
4. The new official prep test software has the IR questions.
5. Personally, the IR section can be thought of as a warm-up for the quant section and should get the mind into the quant frame of mind.

Also, initially, since there would not be much data to scale the IR scores might be considered heavily. Though if you are intending to take consulting as post-MBA then IR would be handy to showcase your DI skills.

Hope some of your queries have been answered and that this info was useful.

Check the MGMAT blog entry by Stacey ( http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index.php/2012/04/11/the-next-gen-gmat-two-part-analysis) where it is stated that IR is not adaptive.

good to know that IR is not adaptive

Hi,

Long time since I last visited PG.. being a regular at the class of 2013 aspirants thread....great to see so many waitlisted people getting converts...I was in waitlist myself from R1..sadly didn't convert...

But I got into PGPEx in IIM Shillong...and probably will be joining there....

Good luck to all the old timers on this thread... !!!

All the best for 2014 !!!

.

yep the IR is not adaptive for certain.
the point you make on the score used for consulting jobs is interesting.. thanks.
WIll try out a few IR questions and see if I develop any liking for it..and is it better than those essays

The other thought that I had was, their should not be any preps. required for giving DI. You need to know your maths and use your brains. But in essays, you would need only your brains. :sneaky:
So yes the maths part does get a good warmup.!!

Cheers.!! :drinking:

What event is this? can you elaborate a bit.

Hi Puys,

This would certainly be my first post on this Holy thread.
My query might be trivial or might be answered before but I'l still go ahead with it.
I'm working with an IT giant and this also has it's CSR wing.
It's associated with a non profit partner.
Now as a part of CSR I'm taking classes for skills to succeed and teaching those people who really don't get much opportunities like us and want to move ahead in life.
I've been active with this and been representing my company to different NGO's.
Now the thing is we do get appreciation mails from the top brass of the firm but no certificate is given to us.
My question now is : Will NOT having a certificate matter if I put this NGO thing down in my Essays and the interviewer asks for it ?

Any reply to this would be highly appreciated :)
Thanks !

Stuff that you put in your essays need not be backed with immaculate paperwork, however be prepared to back it up nevertheless. The appreciation emails should be good enough, besides anyone who has seriously worked in this area would be able to speak at length (and more importantly - convincingly!) on the work that they did.

Hey Puys,

I am a little perplexed regarding my profile and move for exec- program.I had hard time wrt to CAT last few attempts gone all in vain.
I am looking for ISB program for executives.
Can some one lay an insight on the profile and suggest me areas of improvement to get a profile call from ISB.

1.Acads:

Have Read books for kids who are blind and Impaired.
Awarded First Prize in National Level Skit Competition/National Level Debate -Runner Up.
Best performed from the delivery unit for OTD(On Time project delivery).
Innovation Award for Cost Implementation by Client for Value Idea.
Awards at college level for Robotics.
Blood donation camp volunteer and multiple other college level awards.
I have run a marathon twice and love reading books, interacting with kids and help them learn with play.

I am confused if my Acads in 10/12 would not be a setback for getting a call from ISB/NUS/Insead...

Hi Ankit, it doesn't matter if you do not have a certificate you can mention your achievements in your essay without any certificate but do not write anything fake. :nono:

Dear Madcapz,

With 2.5 years of experience you are no where close to being eligible to apply to ISB's Executive Program which is called PGPMAX. You barely meet the criteria for the normal PGP program which stipulates that you should have at least 2 years of work experience. I strongly urge you to first visit the intended websites of all the schools you are looking to apply to and have at least a glance at the graduating class statistics and admissions requirements prior to posting questions on the forum.

With regards to your academics - they are decent enough but not exceptional. Your score will not hurt you when you apply to BSchools. Just make sure you do well on the GMAT.

Best,

Roshan

Thanks for your reply !

Yes, I've been working regularly with the NGO and hence know quite a lot on the back end process of it's functioning etc etc .

And yes definitely I'l put it down in the essays specifically to what was my role and how I've been an active contributor to this.

Several of you will very soon be re-applying to BSchool. To help you and other such re-applicants I have put together "Surviving the Re-Application," a two part post that will help you kick-start the reapplication process in the right direction.

You can visit my blog by clicking the link in my signature (The post that would be displayed is Part 2 - you will have to start reading from Part 1.)

A quick one.
Is there a format which one uses to get your profile evaluated by isb adcom?
Or do we just send a mail to [email protected] and set up a time/date?

Has any one already been through it? Please guide.
Thanks!
