ammo ! dont even get me started on you ! stop wasting time on pg and get on with life !
Lot of action and I missed out on the live performances :)
Here are my two cents:
1. Does a high GMAT compensate bad ACADS?
I wont buy that as this is misleading. A person with bad acads might prove his mettle by scoring heavy on GMAT. It merely supplements the ability of a person and helps him fall in the good eyes of adcom. In turn it might show the stark inconsistency in the profile. Nevertheless one gets a chance to have a shot at the i/v with high GMAT n trust me such profiles will go through a lot of scrutiny during the i/v. A chance is a chance at the end.
2. What does one need to make it to ISB?
I would say every damn thing in your life is important. Be it being the only one to practice yoga on the top edge of mt. Etna (should be unique, isn't it?) or be it being an organizing committee member of your college (The most common, huh!). Gauge the importance and put them up in your profile. One has gotta sell every bit of worthiness one possesses. Frankly speaking once shortlisted everyone has an equal chance as an IIT/Female/780/3 yrs Mckinsey Backoffice/Kuchipudi profile. I/v is the key, impress them in a short time, they are looking for short bursts of confidence when you face strangers/strange questions. Having said that, other aspects should carry weight too but in a minimal way.
3. IIMs/ISB?
We aren't basically comparing similar profiles here. ISB falls midway between IIM PGP and IIM PGPEx. The latter courses are the reflection of entry and exit level MBAs respectively. ISB caters to the mid-career professionals. Am trying to draw the average profiles for my observations. And depending on ones needs one may choose IIM over ISB or vice versa. It is purely situation driven.
4. And why is this thread more clamorous?
Quarter Life Crisis - Please understand the ambiguity and ambition

Hope I made sense at this time of the hour!
@waterman , Dude, you're awesome, expecially in the 4th point - Quarter Life Crisis (QLC). :)
I am having another trouble here. I have been offered another job which I have to accept or decline by coming Monday. I am thinking of requesting extension but I hope ISB saga for this year is over as soon as possible.
Had my ISB interview on 27th in Hyd.
Essay - "Happy". Wrote it happily.
Q1 - You do Technical Analysis?
Q2 - What do you do as an Index analyst?
Q3 - You were in Equity Research at CRISIL and now you are in Passive Portfolio strategy. Former is closer to your long term goals. Why the switch then?
Q4 - What are your takeaways with regards to Portfolio Management from you current job?
Q5 - You are doing CFA, FRM and then MBA. It seems you want to do everything at once.
Q6 - You might know, ISB isn't that good in Fin placements, then why do you want to come here?
Q7 - You can get peer learning by meeting them outside as well.
Q8 - You can read text books to learn about Business.
Q9 - So you are coming to ISB to collect business cards.
Q10 - As the industry isn't doing great, what would you do if you are not placed in any asset mangement firm after MBA?
Q11 - As you wrote about leadership in your essays, tell me an instance.
Q12 - That shows more of management skills. Tell me another one.
Q13 - So doing other's work is
Q14 - So tell me the difference between Leadership and Management.
Q15 - Any questions for us.
All the best to all the candidates who have their interviews lined up.
hey @srm85 I have now graduated to Hardcore Pagal. You are very close.
Looks like my prediction has come true

@myth_dispeller Its good somebody in your family is in SBI. As them to get info about Mid Corporate Group. If anybody in your family is in SBI as you say you will have no doubts. As to your other questions, as I said I have not done MBA, it is Post Graduate Programme in Banking and Finance. I want to upgrade my qualifications. SBI is not the greatest Job in the world especially if you are in credit. Anyways I will not justify any further. I am off to work in an hour.
Hi all,
I need some help please. Lately, I saw a list of one word essay topics. If someone has still got it, can you please post it. I'll be very thankful to you.
@punters11 I think you are about close on the ratio. I attended an info session of Mrs. Hima from ad com and she said the ratio is 8:3:1. There is no way to validate this though.

My sincere advice after going through the process and speaking to alum on this - Don't break your head about one word essay that you need to write on your i/v day. It doesn't matter much. As long as you are able to construct good English sentences, you should do good. Concentrate on your essays and career plans more.
All the best
@mvr4mba Thank you for sharing your experience .I believe that you went through a typical ISB interview exp. that ISB is so famous for or shall i say infamous for. Could you describe your panel please. How many other candidates did you interact with ? Did ISB grill them all? How were they reacting & facially expressing to your answers?
All the best for your results.

I don't know if mine is a typical interview. Generally they tend to ask about essays/extra currics/hobbies etc. I wasn't even bothered with those questions.
They kept asking me about my medium term and long term goals vis-a-vis how ISB would fit into that. All my questions were just centered around that. they grilled me a lot on that, to an extent that it became grilling for the sake of it.
Panel 9 on 27th January. Had a lady and a Gentleman. They seemed like Alum.
@srm85 Not sure on this IIMB thing . I got an interview with 600 GMAT ( my 610 is 2009 one and not accepted) 10th 76% and 12th 71% . Not close to spectacular by any stretch of imagination !!!
@Kode_A said:@King_Julian Dude I remember reading somewhere, you had applied for XLRI BM course too right ??
That's right. I got both BM + HRM calls. But I am not keen on them since I have +7 years experience already and I don't think 2 year courses are made for me. I will definitely take the interviews very seriously, but I don't have a strong feeling imagining myself in a two year course with all 2-3 year experienced kids :)

@Kode_A - And by the way, my interview went similar to yours. I never had a chance to put forward the positivies in my profile, only the negatives, loopholes came out and I was cornered all the time π There was a point when I thought I'd say, yes sir, you guys are damn right, I shouldn't be here. and walk out ! There was a time when the panel said - "So you thought you can sit in your cosy AC room, read an article or two about the problems rural India is facing and you now want to do an MBA to fix them ???"
