ISB Class of 2014 aspirants.

Correction : You can take GMAT on the last day of deadline as well and apply.

#1) As soon as you finish with the test, they will give you a 2 page scorecard with your score. This is the test center report. It does not have the AWA marks.

#2) The AWA will be graded separately and a full score report with AWA will be sent to you via email, via post or both. Obviously the email report reaches a lot faster. Typically it takes about a week for the AWA scores to be generated. GMAC has a huge factor of safety while saying 3 to 4 weeks

#3a) Before you start the test you are allowed to select 5 schools that you will send your scores to. The GMAC will automatically send your scores to these 5 schools when your AWA is computed.

#3b) If you want to send your score to a different school than the 5 that you selected, you will have to pay an additional 20 or 25 dollars per school. This usually takes a week or so from the time of placing the request.

ISB allows you to apply with your scores in #2 (You need your AWA score). However, it also requires that it receives your scores from GMAC. (#3). So the last date to safely take the GMAT would be about 2 weeks before the deadline.

My recommendation is to take the GMAT as early as possible. If you get a score that is well below your practise tests (say you were sick or excessively nervous) it gives you time to recover, schedule another date and take the test without being nervous. Also, finishing it early allows you to concentrate on the essays which are a lot more important than the scores.

All the best
That is what I am trying to understand, what are we trying to find out with the list of applicants?
.........I am just trying to understand them.

I second DH on this.I feel it would do more damage than help each other out.It would give a base to unneccessary comparison with all abstract data.If contact list is what this sheet thrives for, then this thread is doing a good job by bringing everything related to ISB CO2014 under one roof.

your wish people.. and any help in ISB essays and interviews , just PM me.. I was at ISB campus last year and screwed up badly i guess on the aspirations part. Plus also had a chance to chat with one of the students there on a sunday  . He told me that if your career aspiraations are not in line to what ISB's usual trend is , then chances are slim of getting a admit. So guys make sure you make a thorough analysis of what you want to get into after a MBA , and make sure ISB is the college you are looking for.

hi ppl,
i am asking this query at the risk of sounding repetitive, but nevertheless, i wanna know does applying in R1 really boost up the chances in any way? For some reasons i haven't been able to begin my prep for gmat yet and am not confident of finishing gmat as well as the other application requirements by september. Therefore, i intend to target R2 but lot of my frens, one even at ISB are suggesting that i should target R1 if ISB is my top priority.
Pl help, as i need to take a decision soon.

From the 2-3 ISB Info sessions that I have attended so far, the admission team have always mentioned that, it doesn't make a difference if you apply in R1 or R2.

I would suggest you take your time and apply only when you are ready. There is no point in rushing up with a half baked application.

Shyam

Hi,

I'm a reapplicant. Got dinged last year after interview. Awaiting feedback. Hope to give it a shot this year again with renewed focus.

A few Qs..

1. Will getting slightly modified recos from the same recommmeders as last time be a disadvantage?

2. What if there havent been much improvements in my profile from last time? Can an improved gmat score prove valuable in that sense?

3. I'm still apprehensive about applying in 1st round since I got dinged in 1st round last time. Personally feel 2nd round is better but I'm sure many ppl will disagree on that. But considering my profile hasn't improved much I give myself a little more time to improve by applying in the 2nd round. Is that a good idea?

P.S. Was a silent spectator last time around on the co2013 thread. Hope to contribute this time around!

Cheers

I will try to answer your questions :

1. I dont think getting recco from same recommendors will be a disadvantage. But be sure you choose people who have worked closely with you rather than a person who is at a high post( Chairman/CEO level) Just a personal opinion.Because ISB's purpose of recc is to get to know the candidate better.

2. There is a lot of time with you.Ask for feedback from ISB and try to work on your profile.Better GMAT score is always good.

3. If you think you can improve profile in those 2 months ( time btw 1st and 2nd deadline) then Go for R2. But i will suggest you to apply in Round 1 itself..

Hope i answered your questions

Thanks for ur opinions.

My recos last time around were from my mentor and a technical manager under whom i had worked in a project. Both did hold dept manager level positions. One of them has left them company since. Do you think it's still alright to get a reco from the person who has left? is peer reco advisable?

Here's a snapshot of my profile.

Work Ex: 3yrs in a mnc engineering consultant (oil & gas)
Gmat: 700
Acads: b.tech chemical + b.tech (dual degree) I.T. with cgpa of 8.5 in both
ECs: lots and lots of theatre & music activities through college and part of mainstream theatre currently. have done several public stage shows and directed 2 full length productions till date.
social work: 1 and half yrs at a youth volunteer organization but quit since then due to lack of time.

Personally, i dont think my professional profile has scope for improvment. i could concentrate on ECs. As you said, a feedback would make it clear as to where i need to improve.

Cheers!

Btw, as per ISB info session - the best set of recommendations is: one from your immediate manager and one from your client. If these cannot be managed then you can approach other relevant sources.

Incidentally, if you are a re-applicant from last year then I believe you can simply reuse your recommendations, confirm this with ad-com, it may save you the trouble of hunting for fresh recommendations.

Hi Puys,

Just got done with my GMAT and am a little sad. Got 690. The essays went fine though. I'm just done with 12 months of work ex.
Grad 8.83/10
12th 91%
10th 92%

Co-curriculars: Fairly regular, fest coordinator, club president et al.
Leading the CSR wing at the work place now.

Based on past trends, just want an honest opinion, keeping everything else aside, should i give the application a shot with this score or I should give another shot at GMAT and try for a better score?

Sangi,

Your GMAT score is not bad at 690. GMAT is just one of the components considered in the MBA applicationand there are other ways in which you can strengthen your profile.

A key deciding factor is your work experience. ISB prefers candidates with atleast 2 years work exp. With one year of experience under your belt, you may be considered as having too little exposure to the corporate life and this will affect your admit chances more than the GMAT score.

You should consider waiting 1-2 years and then applying.

Namita at MBA Decoder

Hi Namita,

Thanks for the response.
I have a doubt here, since the applications are open for the 2014 intake, till then i will have around 30 months of work ex.
So if i apply now, will I be mentioning the workex at time of admit or workex at time of applying?

thats indeed a great effort ..... mustang28....

could any help me understand, what you mean by "getting your profile evaluated by ISB Adcomm"...

Does ISB share some feedback on our current profile ?

I wanted to know how to get referal from ISB students/Alumini? Do we have to mention their name as one of the refree in the application or somewhere else?

As far as I have heard, it needs to done by the students. They have this referral link where they can provide the candidate name or App ID.
