ISB Class of 2014 aspirants.

@sudhir3127 said: Thanks snbasu .. Sure .. Im not bothered with stats .. Iam probably the most optimistic guy on this thread with a 610 gmat
I once heard of a guy making it to co2005 with 580 - though I was also told that he had amazing essays and work-ex going for him (no other way to make it I guess!)

Having said that - 610 is well below the ISB average, if possible you should consider the option of giving GMAT once more to improve the score.

Hi ISB stalwarts,

Need your advice on one point.I was going through the list of electives in ISB portal. How exactly can oen ascertain that which all electives one should take?

for your reply and i am not from commercial part of marine industry i am working on crude oil tanker as second officer
Recommendations as you mentioned is really important but for us after completion of contract, our seniors may also go on holiday in that case they dont have access to their official email id so my question can i give their unofficial email id and also will it be wise to add my prgram chairperson of previous coll as the referal person

Hi,

I Scheduled an appointment for giving GMAT on November 6, keeping in mind the last date for application for ISB on 30th November. Now after registering I got an email confirmation that mentioned, they would be taking atleast 20 days to give me the score. Now if I take exactly 20 days then it will come down to 26th november and last date is 30th November.
Should I reschedule the test now to an earlier date looking at the risk of missing the deadline?

Thanks
Saurabh

The time of 20 days they mentioned is for the official report. Immediately after you take your test, you will be given printout of your unofficial report , which can be used to apply to ISB. So practicaly u can even take GMAT on last day of application deadline is 30th Nov for Round 1....

@[200413:navisangha] .. Thanks a lot. Now I can breathe easy. I registered just an hour ago and since then I was cursing myself. I can now sleep well tonight.

@ @[575004:ankurmgr] Thanks a lot! It does work there.

Is anybody done with first ISB essay?

Basu, your suggestion? Quoting both professional and personal achievemet in 300 words is quiet daunting. 300 words is too small to express yourself. Not sure what Adcom is trying to judge out of first essay. Secondly, do you recommend one achievement or at least two in first essay?

me done with draft of first 3 essays... Tired of thinking about the video.. Any suggestions guys ??@[402778:ps25]

I think the key here will be to be simple and plain, anyway they are just going to assess one's communication and presentation skills through this video, so content shouldn't matter that much as long as it's politically correct.:-)

If you're asking about the mechanism by which electives will be allocated: there is a fairly elaborate bidding system in place where students bid for specific courses. The arrangement is fairly complex so I won't bother going into the details here but like any bidding system, the popular courses see a lot of action whereas the not quiet so popular ones see people walking in at minimum price (points).

If you want to figure out which exact elective to take - that will depend on a lot of things: what specialization do you want to go for, which courses really appeal to you, which prof will be teaching the subject etc. At least initially.... by term 7 your decisions will be made by factors like - which course will have classes starting after 10, what courses are most of my friends taking, which will involved the least amount of effort etc ;)

I guess personal email id's are not recommended. please write and explain to pgpadmissions and seek help? There is a possibility of hard copy evaluation too under very special cases...

Hi Peeps,

Am a reapplicant. Got interviewed last time, waitlisted and finally dinged.

Quick question, can any one help me understand the downside of using the same answers (tweaking a bit here and there) as last time?

In my feedback, I was told that your essays were, interview was good, downside was acads.

So just want to know, since my essays were good, can I reuse?

Thanks

Are the electives also taken on the basis of the number of pretty girls who are taking that electives???jokes apart..Thanks Sid for the reply...

@[189156:snbasu] I know dude - but here's the trick to really handle those classes at ungodly hours - by supreme will just get up, have breakfast and attend the class. Quickly do CP in the first 15-20 minutes so that you can sleep through the rest. Get free by 12 - have lunch and hibernate like a polar bear ;)

I personally don't feel that you should reuse the essays. The ad-com may very well go over your last application and won't be too impressed if you simply reuse them. Though you should carry over all the good points/structure from your last essays given that they have already received positive feedback!

Shhhh dude... this is a public forum :D

Unfortunately who else has applied for the course is not publicly known otherwise I'm sure this criteria would have ranked near the top ;)

Hi,

I am new to this forum. Just starting with my essays and feels like a daunting task fitting everything in 300 words for the first essay. The second question seems to be tricky - 3 years is perhaps the short term goal is what I understand. Am I missing something here?

Cheers
Ankit
