ISB Class of 2014 aspirants.

@navisangha i have other important stuff lined up for the essays...so will not have space to talk about two ventures. I would prefer to talk about the venture that i took up while in college as it turned out successful today though i am not directly involved anymore. On the other hand i thought of mentioning the second venture in my work-ex section of the application. Is it ok if i dont justify the reasons for giving up?

Hi guys.

Am a Probationer with SBI for the last 1 and a half year. have worked for Times Internet Limited for 6 months before that. I was a good student (80%+ in 12th) but slumped in my grad. (Mathematics Hons. 61%). Have also done a PGD in Marketing Management but the institute ain't recognized (Times School of Marketing). Also I have a year gap as I always wanted to give the exam for PO but was ineligible due to my age. (I turned 24 this year)
You think my profile would be good for ISB? or should I enhance my work experience a bit more before applying? The problem is I haven't done anything in extra curricular activities. Although I am very keen on Bottom of the Pyramid strategies and actively take part in the various Financial inclusion program of my bank.

Hi @[280037:antriksh265],

Yes I would suggest you put in a few more years - the average work exp here at ISB is close to 5.5 years. In the meanwhile I would suggest you wrap off GMAT and keep it aside. Taking GMAT and applying in the same year become very hectic. A GMAT score is valid for 5 years - so you can definitely use the score.

Hi @[581822:vishalpatil104],
Profile evaluation might not be feasible. All i can say we do have Majors, Colonels, Naval commanders in our batch. While coming from an non-traditional background gives a natural diversity but your entire application and goals should be well presented. I would suggest to keep the score close to the ISB average of 710 to avoid any unwarranted risk.

@shubbankar said: @snbasu Hi,Thanks a lot. I had goals of getting into the film industry last year and this year I realized that I may need to reassess things. I think I am more suited to getting deeper into general management while my domain has been predominantly project management during my professional life. Thus I asked the question. Though I still may decide to portray my former goals this time too.I do understand that I will have to work on the application like last year. Thanks again for your inputs.Regards,@[279356:shubbankar]
Hi @[279356:shubbankar],
Yes the film and media industry do come for recruitment and ELP here at ISB (Yash Raj Films, Star India, Reliance, Balaji). So even if you are bitten by the bug - you can definitely give a try once you are in.

Hi....

Maybe this comes more a timeline based question for ISB admissions.
I was wondering if the ISB first deadline strict to the calendar?

Since I am taking the GMAT in the first week of September is it advisable to target the first deadline? Or should I pace myself for the second deadline for ISB admissions.

Any guidance will be of immense help...

Thanks

Apply when you feel you are good and ready and everything is in place (recos, GMAT, essays, supporting documents). It really does not matter if you apply in R1 or R2.

@[353763:singhsid]: About R1 and R2, i have heard that the no of seats in R1 is less than that in R2, so the chance of getting a call from R1 should be more than R2 right ?

Hi Basu

I wsa going through your replies for various posts i am basically from MArine background with almost 4 years expeireince including my internship before my graduation.
My question is how many years will my expeirence be counted and i have seen people on this portal from m ybackground with quite good score of 720 but were rejected. i did not understand the logic
how do the recruiters look at us after graduation and what is the average package for students from our background?
lastly is can the various electives be combined for a degree in energy trade and finance?

: where did u get that piece of information on numbers of seats in R1 Vs R2? @[466463:myselfhari]I don't think any such thing exits...

Hi,

I have a query regarding Evaluation Form in PGP application.
When I select the online option for evaluation, the page shows a link to PDF format Evaluation Sample form. When I click on the link the page that opens in internet browser is all garbled and it does not open with Acrobat Reader.
Is somebody else also facing a similar problem?

Cheers
Rohit

Hi @[466463:myselfhari],

Here is the process,

If there are 750 seats, ISB will loosely earmark say 350-400 for R1 (not an exact fig - given as an illlustration.)
Around 3400-4000 applications are received per round. From R1 applicant pool ISB
will roll out interview offers to few, reject few and few on hold (to be compared with
R2 applicants). After R2 applications are recieved - they are compared with the on hold
pool of R1 - and again i/v offers rolled out or rejected.

Hence, if you are good enough be it R1 or R2 - you will get an i/v call. You will not be
competiting for 750 seats if you are applying for R1 - the number is around 350-400.

So, R1 or R2 - gives no edge.

Basu.

@[189156:snbasu]: Thanks a ton basu for clearing the doubts on R1 and R2.

I had applied for SPJAIN MGB program and i have converted the call. The course starts NOV 2012 and i need to pay a confirmation fee of $2500, by 21st July. I am not taking the course for these reasons:

1. I got a GMAT score - 680 (screwd in quants) , 6/6 (essay) and 8/8(IR) , so i believe that i can do better on my 2nd attempt (1st attempt was on 27th june).

2. This MGB program is a new one introduced by SPJAIN and i will be the first batch in. so i really do not want to take this risk, since i need a good college for my MBA (after which, virtually i will stagnate on further education)

3. I have a 2+ workex right now (from June 2010 onward) and I am working in a manufacturing sector (TATAPOWER CO. LTD.) and I am an electrical engineer from NIT. My school acads are good (90% in 10th and 87% in 12th - both CBSE) and 7.5 pointer in under-grad.

I think i have made the correct decision of letting off the SPJAIN offer.

I am preparing on my ISB profile as well.

Can you tell me how wise is this decision and how good do i stand for ISB ? And one more thing @[189156:snbasu], would you recommend me to prepare very well and give after sept 15th or before that itself ??

P.S. I am also appearing for CAT.

Hi @[466463:myselfhari],
I am sorry a profile evaluation might not be feasible and also it would be unwise & foolish on my part to comment on your decision. My request- MBA is a very imp and costly decision - so please take it after considerable thought.
All I would suggest that you apply when you are ready. Essays do take a considerable time - i
had 8 versions over 2/3 months.

: ru sure it's 5K application per round?? I think it's combined for R1 and R2.. At least that's what the info sessions tell you ...and the selection ratio is 8:4.5:1 .. If this is true I don't get the math on how will they select 800 students ( dropouts will be 50; so it's 850)@[189156:snbasu]

Thanks snbasu .. Sure .. Im not bothered with stats .. Iam probably the most optimistic guy on this thread with a 610 gmat πŸ˜ƒ

@[565359:sudhir3127] - we had a 620 admit last year. So you have reasons to be optimistic. Strong application and profile would be your key.
