ISB Class of 2014 aspirants.

New here. i have been reading lot of posts froms previous years as well this year. I plan to apply for the R1. My brief profile is as follows-
10th - 90%
12th - 75%
Undergrad - BE (Civil) from a reputed (Non IIT) college - 70% (honours degree)
Grad - ME (Envirnomental Engg, 4.0/4.0 GPA) from a top 15 college in US
Experience - Consulting (environmental engineering), 2 years 5 month until March 2013, Good career progression, pathfinder award from teh company, will be promoted to be a project manager by the end of this year
Also, research experience (2 years) during my masters degree, not sure if that will count towards work ex.
Extra Curricular Activities - Involved in professional societies. Organized lot of events as the president of the local chapter

My acads have been goof throughout my whole life.
Now, the sad part, GMAT score. i have made two attempts. And my scores were 620 and 600 respectively. I have a travelling job, so didn't get enuf time to prepare. Planning to give again but it won't be until December end

Questions-
Can somebody evaluate my profile? also, should i apply this year with my current GMAT score or apply next year with a better score?

if, at all, i get admission in ISB, do the companies consider the GMAT score during the placement process.

Can anybody share his/her exxperience who went to join ISB in YLP Program.....

I'm planning to take the same. I'm in 3rd year of Engineering.

Hi All,

Maybe I am ignorant and posting in the wrong thread, but can anyone please let me know some strategies on ISB interview preparation?
Moreover, I am based in Bangalore, and I know there are many prospective students filling out the application from Bangalore. Can I perhaps get in touch with anybody (I know there are few activities, which happen around, but not sure how to be involved) for mock interviews and discussing communication, strengths, weaknesses and above that, current affairs that are likely to be put up as a question?

Any sort of help will do here!! :)

Regards,
Rahul

That is the minimum requirement. So it makes you eligible.
How you leverage the same to get an admit would depend on you.

After being quite a silent observer, thought its the time to be active now on this thread......I am a reapplicant and last year I was dinged because I could not display my depth of knowledge , (as per feedback from ISB Adcom) ....
A brief about my profile : GMAT 730, 5 yrs work ex in IT, 1.5 onsite experience in Singapore,a bit of NGO's , Female , Currently based out of bangalore

On reading some prior posts, saw a ding for many good applicants, surely there were some reasons or is the admission based on the interviewers "gut instinct" , not sure..I had a admit from Carnegie Mellon -Tepper school of business but didnt have the relevant funds to see through... :(( anyways, I think they very strongly emphasis on your clarity of goals ...
I was very honest in the interview, maybe should have toned down a bit and been more diplomatic :)..frankly speaking, was a bit upset that in a class of 700+, I was not suitable enough... Dunno..

Hi fellow Puys,

I am aspiring to apply in ISB this year. My GMAT score is 700.
10th - 90.8%
12th - 90%
CGPA - 86.4%
Work Experience - approx 1.5 years(on the higher side) in an IT Consultuncy.
ECs - Have passionately worked in a Charitable Organization during my college days. In Technical Events organizing committee at clg. Done mountain Expeditions during school. Currently an active participant in office CSR activities. But nothing significant at state or national level.
Can this profile make me be eligible to apply and get an admission in ISB this year.

Hey battlezone, why dont you apply at where you are and see your chances

hi crackster...thanks for responding. I am a little apprehensive about the min 2 yrs of experience limit. I will not be having that by the time I submit my form in september.

Also I am having a little problem with my essays. As a fresher in IT industry, the better part of my year has gone in just learning. There has not been a "very" significant work achievements till now. Mostly technical work. Most of my achievements are from my college time. I think it may not make my profile very attractive.
Any suggestions..since I see you are also from IT

-- It really doesnt matter that your achivements are from IT or college, there needs to be a balanced perspective of both, one of my juniors , same experience as you who was working in production support, had got a interview call .. he couldnt convert it though..

-- And doing technical work , you will definetly find many achivements , small it may be for the outside world, but if it has made a considerable impact on you, that will do..

--Another advantage of being on the lesser experienced side is that you have choice to switch to any field, its a strange paradox that the more you spend in your current job , the more difficult it gets to change tracks, MBA or no MBA ..have your post MBA goals clear, better not to do it just because everyone is doing it.. The adcom can sniff out your clarity ...:)

-- And most importantly, you need to have confidence in your profile, and project it passionately to the adcom....

Thank you Varun for dropping in to help us out.. I had a question to you..
Do the placements happen only for IT-Program Manager roles, Management consultants and finance postions or are there some different kinds of roles on offer as well, such as Operations ,
Marketing jobs,
General management
and NGO work..

And what would be the percentage, I mean in real terms πŸ˜ƒ

I was given the same feedback. My application didnt display the learnings on the job that I would bring to the table. I think the feedback was valid as couple of my friends also pointed this out; I am going to have to revise a lot of my applictaion..

Hi Magnifico,

Would love to hear any specific instance..I think the statements by you and @[401836:crackster] depict the same issue in some way. Do you mean to say that while interviewing, you couldn't justify some of the points written in your application/essays?

Thanks,
