ISB Class of 2014 aspirants.

@[200413:navisangha] yes..I agree with you...it was understood that overall profile is necessary, that's why I haven't mentioned it, and the word "preferably" was used, so as to keep the applicant on a safer side.

@[317946:varmaravi123] Hi..you gotta decent profile, but it would have been more easy to evaluate if you would have mentioned the colleges which you intended to apply. Otherwise your profile is decent, but as a helper and not a consultant I would suggest you to gain some more work ex, so as to make your journey smoother..

@[580052:JKMastersCareer] Thanks !

All,

Had one more question. While one of my recommender is my direct supervisor, the other is a senior colleague (3 yrs senior) . So when I select my relationship with the recommendor, would it be colleague/co-worker , supervisor or mentor (or any other) ?
@JKMastersCareer said: @ps25 Hi...ISB intake is more compared to IIM's and after the Mohali campus it increased more, but the quality is never out of fashion .. If IIM's are combined, then in total they'll be having much more intake than ISB. ISB has a good brand value and till now justifying with it's image. Although IIM's are also good choice, but ultimately everyone has different perceptions..

I was not comparing IIM's 2 year course with ISB's 1 uear but of IIM's 1 year with ISB's 1 year, nonetheless i am yet worried of brand dilution due to increased intake. besides placing 800 students is big task, that may affect average salary also on placement. for those with 5+ years of work-ex, is ISB going to add value to their compensation package I am not sure. in long term is it going to add value to their profile - answer is yes. so despite all odds long term advantages of MBA from ISB outweigh initial pain which is likely given bad global economic scene and truck load of students put in job market every year(its not that they are truly exposed to international job market like INSEAD, most end up getting job in India and India Inc is in bad shape right now)

@[402778:ps25] india INC and almost every inc is in a bad shape, I went to an info session at ISB, and the deal is you dont do an MBA only to add to your salary, you do it to shift into management.

As in the organisation i am working in at best in 10 years i would turn into a Ops manager - minus the skills trust me there are a few managers who need lessons in business communication, but if I have a management degree I can walk into any field of management at my current experience and grow in that.

Pluse INSEAD is cool, in case you can get there then you can pic and chose between ISB and INSEAD but then I have high regards for ISB, I believe its better than the IIMs based just on the fact on how they pick there students.

I believe a fresher walking into management will never be as good as someone with an experience.

Wanted to ask how much an AWA score matters? Somehow, I messed up my my AWA section percentile but I was suggested not to retake GMAT just to improve AWA score. I was thinking that perhaps I should address this in the third essay.
Any suggestions. Please reply.
Thanks
Ankit
AWA is that analytical score if yes, then you do not need to worry about it, They said at the info session that they will park that score this year, that will be used for assessment next year.

You can send them an email just to be sure. But i was there and i heard this coming right from the director.

Hi Puys,

I was wondering if I could get some info regarding deferred admission into ISB?

I've just completed my graduation and have landed myself into a job in a leading management consulting. Please let me know all the relevant details. Is there any means from which we can get out profile evaluated?

TIA

@[471566:Kunal21] if you geta serius GMAT score and you are exceptional as per ISB people and you apply before 2 years of experience, they will give you a deferred experience. or may be start you off with the YLP program. So you can join the course as soon as you complete 2 years.

@[562370:chetso]: Thanks for reverting back.

Since I am new in this league, could you please quote a range of GMAT scores that ISB has accepted till date?

Moreover, I have already graduated this year. Is YLP still open to me?

It seems preview application functionality has a bug as since past couple of days it's not working.Whenever i try to preview i get following message...

Server Error in '/' Application.

Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'String' is not valid.

@[584766:Sandbrick] Please try using a different browser (try IE if not done already).. If the error still persists, please reach out to [email protected] for assistance...

@[471566:Kunal21] No problem man, In there words there isnt a specific number they go for, Its a holistic evaluation of your profile.

The average score of people in there is about 700ish, As for your other query just send them an email. ISB admissions are one of the most helpful people ever. I am sure they will answer you.

You can ask for average gmat score of people who applied and average of the people who got selected.

Thanks @[562370:chetso] :)

I'm willing to bet that you will not get official data on that front however if you're asking for range, I know of someone who came in with a sub-600 and PG forums are littered with stories of people who got rejected with at >740.

So I guess you can say that a high GMAT does not guarantee an admit and a low GMAT does not mean you are automatically disqualified.

A GMAT score is merely a hygiene factor - it's like dressing up well when going to a club. Your fine threads may make a girl look at you but unless you can back up the style with some substance, you will be left alone at the bar buddy!

There's no point in getting fixated with stuff like GMAT scores and wondering about the threshold - there is no threshold. If I tell you that the average score of successful candidates is 710 it's not like you will try to score only 710 - is it?

Not really aware of the working of the YLP program - but drop a line to ISB ad-com, I'm sure they'll guide you on this.

Hi,
Wanted some feedback on Acads part ...
I am Working Top Paint Company in sales for last 5.6 years with a proven track record,

To be considered for admission in YLP, an applicant must be in his/her pre-final year of graduation.

@[511074:parveenchaudry] & others - a quick profile eval for me please:

* 5 years, 8 months (by Apr '13):
- IT Services org (Investment Bank client) - 2.5 yrs
- Investment Bank (internal IT dept) - 3+ yrs
* Consistent hobbies (one pursuit, right through college and both work places)
* Excellent extra currics
* Zero non-profit / community experience
* UG - Engg - 63% , Diploma Engg - 78% (State Merit Rank & all)
* Now the whopper - 640 GMAT!

What are my chances? Should I even apply this year with my score?

Folks,

One question about the employment section in the application. Where can we talk about the previous roles played in the same organization? Can we fill up such information in the 'Previous Employment' section, though you have worked for the same organization?

Hello,

I need some pointers on how to highlight my profile effectively for ISB PGP 2013-14 application. Profile details below:

GMAT: 740/4/0

Qual: 10th - 91% (16th in Mumbai board)

12th - 95% (5th in Mumbai board)

B.E. - VJTI (69%)

Exp: 6 years 9 months (as of Mar 31, 2013)

Int'l exp: 22 months (as of Mar 31, 2013)

Extra-curriculars: Debates and technical paper presentations at college. No volunteering or social work experience except 1 mandatory day of social work at my organization.

Question is - I am not asking anyone to evaluate my profie :)

Just need help with - how to differentiate it, as I feel lack of significant extra-curriculars could be a week area. Work experience has been with Deloitte has a Technology Consultant for 5 years in India and now for over a year in New York (I transferred here).

I do not have many applause awards or exceptional performance at work, but I was good enough to clear multiple internal interviews in order to get transferred to NY :)

Any pointers on how all this can be highlighted effectively in my application?

Thanks!

Anu
