When I spoke to my counselor, she mentioned that it can be formals or semi-formals...but why take chance, better be in Business Formals... :)
But do we need a tie?? :D
@fanatic_ronnie said: @pardhu1987 yes I confirmed from ISB adcom that the dress in video essay must be Business Formal.
What else information did you get from adcom about video essay?
I learned that a candidate must be seen speaking in video, unlike video applications sent to Stern MBA
Any more info on video essay?

ISB adcom said that the video must show your good communication skills...That's it...I hope they want to shortlist good speakers before interview round.
@ps25 said:I guess maximum time of video is 90 seconds
That's correct..It can be exactly 90 seconds long as well :)

Curious question - what if its 92 seconds
? Certainly not aware of any software which truncates video on temporal limits

@fakeengineer trust me, acads wise you're fine. Just get 3-4 years below your belt+a 700 GMAT and you'll be fine when it comes to numbers.
So applications ready?? How many of you will be submitting it at the last moment π ?

While the ingredients you are working with are good, but your whole app story would need a revisit.1) Why an MBA from ISB when you already have a PDGM? What were you motivations while going in? Do you think that PGDM has helped you, if so why another MBA, if not why do you think this MBA will help you?2) First BE, then soft skills trainer in a coaching, then PGDM in finance, then with insurance, and now again an MBA, why so many switches? Is 2nd MBA too a hasty decision?3) NGO work is good but that should not stand as a outlier in your profile, it should jell in very well with your overall profile, or such arguments fall flat.My questions may seem impinging, but I'm just playing devil's advocate here.Regards, Varun [email protected]
Thank you. You're playing just the role I was hoping someone would play. These are questions I am struggling with myself too. Here's a rough draft of the justifications I have with me. Would like some countering before I go ahead with drafting them in a real application.
1. MBA from ISB because of the peer learning more than the course curriculum (which I have already gone through once at LBSIM). The chance to interact with such quality students from diverse backgrounds. Secondly, because I want to venture into social entrepreneurship and want to learn about business from the very best place I can learn it from (ISB, in this case). And this is also where I would fit in my interest in associating myself with NGOs now.
2. I completed B.E in 2009, the recession batch. And I primarily worked as a business developer with a coaching institute (back in North East) after that. Soft Skills Training was just an initiative I started the institute because I realized during my hostel days outside N.E that most students from rural N.E, after moving out have confidence and adjustment issues. Though it was a batch of IIT / AIEEE aspirants, the soft skills sessions was a voluntary and free addition I started to help them cope with issues they'd have eventually faced after a year.
And the reason I worked as a B.D was also because I wanted to move into management and the job not only gave me a chance to learn managerial aspects of a job, it also gave me a flexible schedule to prepare for CAT.
3. Insurance after PGDM Finance is not a very abrupt choice I believe as I am anyway not selling insurance. I am in Operations department and look after underwriting and other operational stuff.
If you find it difficult to buy these justifications, please point out the loose ends and I would try to sort them out.
Thanks!
@magnifico could you please tell me the basis of admissions in ISB... i mean minimum score ? wat abt acads ? work-ex if yes how much ?......any extra curricular if yes of what type ?
please reply
@instance Apart from their min 2 years work ex, ISB has no hard and fast rule. Their general class statistic can be found on their website. I think the average is around 712 GMAT, 5 years of work ex etc.. However, if you have less, there is nothing that says you shouldnt apply. They consider every aspect of your application and view your candidacy as a whole rather than as parts.
As a general tip, aim for a 700 GMAT and focus on essays. BTW, mind sharing your profile?
@magnifico thanx for d info
10th-83 (cbse)
12th-82(cbse)
Engg (CSE) - 76 % from NIT
24 months work ex(as of now)
please suggest some extra curricular(i knw it looks silly to ask this question)...but with the point of view of improving resume...need some tips...
What is your field of work? I would suggest that if you've made some good accomplishments in 24 months that you can showcase, then you should apply this year, otherwise give yourself one or two more years before you apply. Your acads look competent enough for ISB. Just crack the GMAT and focus on essays.
my greetings to the room.. i was a R2 waitlist from last year.. reapplying this year.. anyone else in here who shares my story?
