@Shoan thanks Shoan. that is my next target after practice.
@santoor You have a great chance. Specially, manufacturing type of profiles have a better chance because you stand out so well in the IT crowd. Believe me, despite IIT tag, you would find lot of IIT + IT folks in the fray
@Amrie Applying in R2 - you won't loose anything. If your story is sound: don't worry about R1 or R2... its a myth created by admission counsellors minting money :)
@kjs1 said:My Profile goes like thisa) GMAT : 640
Not a killer score for sure. Think about a GMAT retake. I would suggest try and hit 700 - it should not be difficult for you!
b) Work Exp: 7.5 years by 2013 , April Engaged as a software consultant in retail domain. Have experience in product development & implementation. Lean practioner.Good recommendations would come from ex/bosses.
Reccos are v imp - ISB adcom also emphasizes on them. Make sure that story is consistent and you are able to draw project experiences and relate to your "recco givers". I've seen cases where candidate was telling totally different story than the recco. You might feel good about the interview but reality is know by the adcom :)
Also, try to focus more on the retail side and see how you can build a story to link up future of Indian retail and your interest
c) Acads: Xth -76.5 , Xii-74.4 , B-tech -69.8
Good enough to sail through
d) ECs-> Done Himalayan Cycling , Multi day cycling tours , participated in run & cycle competitions, founding member of cycling club, and member of my departmental cricket team. featured in DNA newspaper & my office news journal for my cycling journal. An active contributor to the developer network with my blogs , wiki pages & on question/answer forums.College level ECs:Editor of college magazine , organizing committee member of college fest , Secretary of Literary Council at my college and placement co-ordinator for my batch. Runners up at national quizzes & active in sports.
You are mentioning a lot of activities here - this won't help. There is a difference between a sniper rifle and a machine gun. Aim for highlighting only the most important ones, which should look "kool"
My GMAT is on the lowest side and I am very hesitant to write the GMAT. Any idea on my candidature. ( I know with IT experience it is damm tough to get an interview invite from ISB).
700 at the min for ISB, my friend for your profile
@saicharantej said: Hi Puys..I'm a prospective applicant to ISB this year.. Brief intro about my background.. Initially worked as a software engineer, then performed the role of an automation consultant who helped other teams in our process identify process gaps and bridge them with automated solutions. For the past 1 year, I've been working as an analyst tasked with analyzing data and formulating strategies for my company's market entry in Asia/South America regions. The reason to do an MBA is to build on this experience and analyze problems from all possible angles(such as marketing, operations etc) than just the engineering and technology perspectives I currently possess.I'm interested in "Strategy Consulting"..Request someone throw some light on the below questions which have been bugging me for quite sometime now: 1)I want to work on a wide variety of problems armed with the knowledge capital gained from an MBA.Don't want to be limited to just the technology related problem-solving/IT consulting. With me coming from an IT background, does ISB view my move to "Strategy Consulting" rather than "IT consulting" a bit illogical? - Nothing illogical about it. Many candidates from my batch moved from IT to consulting. But, usually people from companies such as ITC are prefered by McK, BCG etc. IT folks with not so good grades end up with Deolittes of the world 2)What are the options available to students who pursue "Strategy" concentration post-ISB? Many options - specially corporate strategy depts are filled with MBAs and specially top-tier MBAs 3)What exactly is taught as part of the "Strategy and Leadership" concentration at ISB?Any kind of information about the above queries would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance!! - You need a detailed answer for this one. Will answer at a later stage
Thank you for the kind reply....
I have been in leadership roles for almost 5 years now.
Currently, I lead a team of 15 resources for client EBAY.
I have been at both onshore and offshore and participate in Business meetings to get the requirements and prepare technical designs for my team.
There have been success and failures but mostly the former...
Can you please advise further about my leadership profile, or should I add more details...
Thanks again
@sandhya2406 Campus visit is over hyped. If you are in Bangalore - try meeting few alums from ISB and ensure that you have got your MBA goals cleared out. Alums can give you a good view of which clubs and why. Hope that helps!
@TusharMehta Thumb rule is 700+ GMAT score for ISB. Below this you should consider reappearing. Yes, it also depends on many other parameters such as work exp, projects, nationality etc. But, above 700 you are safe
@@MBAEntrant , Shoan and fellow re-apps - Honestly speaking I really could find more clarity after I have modified my last years essays to incorporate latest developments.... Our thought process indeed changes with time... so even though the backbone of our first 3 essays may remain same, we can still contemplate to bring out our real selves as on date, and pen the same down....

Try to make it 700 pls for a fair chance
I am planning to do a 1 yr MBA in India in a premier institute that accepts the GMAT score. If you could evaluate my profile and my options of universities, you would be very helpful.ThankYou.

@sansd said:Hi everyone,
I have a question does anyone know anybody getting in with a low gmat score, my score is 610 but is it worth to apply???.....my profile is....Class X & XII : 82%Mech Engg...Bits Dubai - CGPA - 6.6/10
Exp : 3 yrs 7 months by march 2013, working as HVAC Design Engg in Kuwait.
International exp according to me is the single biggest booster in your application. ISB gives a significant weight to international candidates / having international exp.
EC's : Member of Inter-University dance team and member of organising committee for the inter-uni sports meet. Currently member of the office cricket team. What do you think ???.....is it worth a try.....i know many ppl would say its a no brainer its just nt enuf, with d low gmat and cgpa but u neva knw, so i just wanna ask fr opinions b4 i apply....
Definitely worth a try. Good luck!
@MBAEntrant said:@fighterlives I've asked the adcom in an info session about the attire for video essay. They said casuals are fine...
Thanks mate...
@ddkle You will have to emphasize on your workex a lot - this might help to sail you through. And no profile is crap my friend - profiles are just different. Depends on your preferences - which school you prefer and why. So, just chill and give it a shot. It is in your hands to make it happen
@fanatic_ronnie Certificates as such won't help. What you learned from them and what was your motivation of participating is what is more important. I have seen heads of cultural committees for cult-fests faltering in interviews - just because they had no clear story
@Shoan said:@fighterlives I just got done with the video.. in my line of work 'formals' are what a corporate HR rep would probably call 'Friday Attire' So I'll go with it..especially since in the brief mailed by the ISB there is no mention of a dress code!
Thanks Shoan, that helps. I too understand that considering the open-endedness and generality of video essay topic, there wouldn't be any constraints as such w.r.t. anything while making a video.... (except for the basic one that you have to be present in the video!)...
4 days to go for the 1st deadline.... Just curious to know if we have any numbers around the volume of apps so far.... I remember last year by this time we had sequence around 700... as in it was around 1307xx for Co2013.... anybody who recently would have submitted can share an approx seq number if they like....
