ISB CONNECT: Ask current ISB students

Hi,
I want to know about the sort of activities the various student clubs(esp Business Technology Club and Sales and Marketing club) at ISB are involved in.

1.What I understand is they organise various seminars on the respective functional/domain areas...or are there things other than seminars that
they are involved in?

2.Can a student be involved in any club of his interest, irrespective of the electives/area of specialisation he chooses?

3.Does the students get involved in the clubs from the start of the academic process or does the club formation and activities start after a few terms?

Hi Go_Win,
1. Clubs are involved not only these things but also there are other small initiatives taken up by different club depending on their respective domains, such as various competitions, different events (e.g. internal consulting projects- by Consulting club), speaker series etc.

2. Any student can be part of any no. of clubs.

3. People get involved by the start of session, although presidents are elected by end of term one and the club bodies are formed subsequently.
Whats FIRP?...I guess I missed out on it on website/info session...
Can you please explain that

Thanks in advance

its Faculty Initiated Resaerch project.

Hi Team,

Could u please let me know how exactly the bidding system works???? and what % of people gen get the subjects that they want......i'm interested in Consulting n marketin so wanted to know generally how tough the competition is for those subjects......I do understand that this depends on a lot of factors but how is it in the present batch????

Hi overlord,

Bidding system is a bit complex to explain here but i can give you stat that u get 85% of courses of your choice ( and thats a very conservative no.) so virtually there is no compitition.
Hi shimmering.star,
Yes you have made a good and comprehensive assessment, I would like to add that these things are valued by the industry and companies.

Thanks for your prompt reply..

Hi,
I would like to know roughly how much % of the class has a work ex of more than 10 years. I have about 12 years of work ex. Also based on past students placement would you know if it's easy to change domain/industry with this level of work experience behind you.

6% of our class has 8+ years of work experience

It is difficult to comment on your question related to 10+ years students changing industry. Usually, students with a lot of experience in a particular industy do not shift industries. However, there are exceptions. Domain shifts are common

Just wanted to add that most of the people with significant experience donot themselves want to switch careers. They come to MBA to jump few levels in their industry or go to some other function in the same industry. If you are keen on switching careers, then be prepared to take off several years of your workex because the other industry would only value the experience that is directly relevant to the job role in the new industry. This is common at all top schools in the world. For instance both at ISB or at Wharton etc, if you are coming even after 15 years of workex in tech R&D; and end up in goldman sachs london, you would be given the same Ibanking associate role as somebody with lets say 2 years of workex in IT.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for this initiative. Could you please tell me that for 'international placement' companies consider which kind of profile ? Also what are te domains where candidates are absorbed for international position?

Hello Team,

I want to get into consulting and if possible particularly mark, consulting. I am looking at ZS Associates but wanted to know what other consultancy firms(with a focus on mark.) come to ISB.......also did ZS come this year????

Guys , we have our mid terms this weekend. Would be back in action after sunday.

Hi,

I have a query regarding interviews at ISB.

I need to travel abroad in mid October and as I understand, the interviews at ISB will start sometime in mid of October. So, I wanted to understand if it makes a difference if I opt for a telephonic interview or a personal interview is always better? Do telephonic interviews reduce your chances of getting an admit?

PS : I hope I get an interview call for this question to stand valid

Thanks and best regards.

hi cubilcle_bound,

it all depends on the job profile. Different companies have different profiles in mind. Typically the international companies that hire at ISB also hire at other top intl bschools like HBS,INSEAD,LBS etc. So you are typically competing with students from such schools.

Intl companies hire for all profiles for example finance, consulting, healthcare, media, technology etc

Hello Sir,

Hello

I am currently in my second year of my four year engineering course. I would like to join the ISB after my graduation without going for any full time work experience. Does ISB accept people with zero work experience? Can high academic scores and GMAT score compensate for zero work experience?

thank you

Many thanks to ISB Connect for taking this initiative..

Query:

I am a Power professional with experience in project management and need some info about the following:

1. Is ISB strong in operations/ PM education? What kind of experience can one expect apart from theory?
2. Can i get some idea about no. of participants from Power/ Energy field.
3. What is Energy Operations and manufacturing club all about.
4. Is aspiration to go to a completely different field from your own construed as a delusion.

Thanks in advance.
