Hi ISB_CONNECT,
NetImpact club is a very good initiative of ISB. :-P:-P
I am a current ISB applicant (for CO2011). I especially liked the following 2 programs in the club:
1) Board Fellows Proagram & 2) Pro Bono Consulting.
From the above two I need some clarification..
1) Board Fellows: What are the are the target Non-profit institutes for this?
2) Pro-Bono consulting: Can you give mw a real time example where the students benifitted a non-profit institute.
Does the non profit inistitute include educational institutes like schools, colleges. Can you give me an example for the same if possible?
Regards..:-P:-P
PS: I have also PMed Chandu_V (current ISB student) the same query.
Hi ,
Please write a mail to [email protected] and ask to connect with a current student with a profile matching yours or post your queries here.
Hi ISB_CONNECT:
My profile is:
Workex: 12+ years (all in IT, 3 years in IT service company, 2 years in Operations Management group and the rest in IT product development).
9 years of which have been based in Europe
6 years out of this have been in a Managerial capacity in Engineering groups.
My queries are:
1. I'd like to know if people coming in with this level of experience have been able to transition into a totally different industry (assuming that they are willing to take a pay cut and drop in responsibilities that go with starting afresh in a new industry).
2. Would like to get some specific examples in relation to people coming in with this level of experience and what roles have they transitioned to , in case they continue in the same industry.
Appreciate your feedback on this.
Board Fellows is targeted at small to medium sized non-profits in and around Hyderabad. This is the first year that this program is being launched and the focus is to target only few organizations, to ensure a good experience for both the students and the non-profits.
ISB Global Pro-Bono Consulting attracts a lot of participation from ISB students as well as students from all over the world. One of the teams this year is working to help mushroom farmers in Assam to improve their livelihoods by developing a supply chain and marketing model for mushrooms. Another team is working on a project to form self-help groups in the Hyderabad old city to help the women launch a home-made healthy food service in Hyderabad.
In addition to this, we have also launched the first ISB iDiya Challenge - which is a nation-wide social ideas competition targeted at working professionals. More details are available on our website www.isb.edu/idiya
Hope this was useful!
Many Thanks for your note on Net Impact.

Thank you for the information. However I think you have more or less answered my question "Does the non profit inistitute include educational institutes like schools, colleges. Can you give me an example for the same if possible?"
From your post it looks like time being no educational institutes are targetted. Am I right?
Is there are a plan in the near future of including non-profit educational institutes in india as part of initiatives in NetImpact club (say in and around hyderabad) taking into account that education (rather quality education) is one of the biggest problem for the poor (And very lower middle class) in india.
Best regards.. Salman
Hello!
Great to see this initiative being taken.
My query is with regards to the association of AIESEC & the ISB. As you would know that, the Indian School of Business has started providing Tuition Fee waiver scholarships for two AIESEC members every year, based on their achievements / profile as well as GMAT score and other credentials. However, this scholarship is only meant for non-Indian citizens i.e. AIESEC members from Countries other than India.
I was curious to know about the admissions of students, their work profile as well as number of applicants over the recent years at ISB having had voluntary/full-time work experience with AIESEC.
Would be great to get some insights on this.
Best,

Dear Smit,
We students do not have this information. It would be better to reach out to [email protected] .
Hi Salman,
We do have pro-bono projects in the education space too which are typically with institutes located in Hyderabad or within travel proximity. It won't be possible however for us to provide exact names here. Overall, there is enough emphasis on getting projects to cater to the diverse interests and backgrounds of the students.

If I am not wrong then General Management is the one ,if I like to choose HR (nt sure) . Hi there,
Great effort from you people on starting the thread.
My brief bio is as below:
Age: 28+
Eductaion: BE ( Mech)
Work Ex: 6
Sector: Manufacturing- 2+ Petroleum Supply & trading (Present)-3+
Acads: Good
Extracirricular: OK
CTC: 13+
Area of interest:
1) Business consulting
2) Supply Chain Consulting
Presently working in a Well established private sector Company and I am looking for opportunities more diverse that my present sector gives me. Although the salary in this sector is pretty rewarding but it has become a single lane now.
I would like to do 1 Yr MBA from ISB ( or the IIMs-1yr course) to diverse out.
Pls help me guide as to whether my profile would be suited for a prospective ISB applicant
Dear Kasish,
If you want a career in HR, ISB might not really be of much help to you. You'd be better off considering schools such as XLRI or XIMB. ISB doesn't offer a major in HR and the number of courses offered in this subject are limited as well. Think it'll be fairly difficult to move into the HR space without majoring in it and without any sort of background in it. Hope this helps.

Adding to the earlier post, HR roles are generally not very well paying hence one of the reasons for low popularity at ISB.
Hi,
I got 640 GMAT - Just abt avg Acads (around 50% aggr.)(Its been a downward slope mostly).
My work ex involves 1 years of entrepreneurial exp in the beginning of my career, and 1.5 years work ex at diff organizations later - mostly in sales/BD positions. (But the app took it as 2.9 yrs as i haven't updated my freelancing exp for the past 6-8 months - can i explain this if i am called for IV)
Above avg EC - Been involved in social causes for more than 3-4 yrs actively
Have written a book - yet to get it published- approached publishers.
Also have a very clear view of Why MBA. Have planned it out for good 3 years now..
Was wondering if GMAT and Acads play a major role in getting shortlisted.. and diversity counts later.. haven't got a call yet and i am pretty strong on the diversity point.. so mind is coming up with many such amazing rationalizations..
Since this weekend the interview calls from ISB have near dried out. Is it so that ISB has sent out the interview invites to the majority of the potential candidates already for round 1 or was it that ISB was off on Saturday and Sunday?
There has also been no invite today, which adds to the nervousness of the candidates who are still waiting for the interview call.
I have some questions about ISB course in general:
I am currently in product development role and wish to continue in the same field. I came to know that some of the big names in this area like google and MS also come for placement in ISB. I want to know about what kind of roles these companies offer for ISB graduates?
Another question is how much sense does it make to do MBA from ISB to progress in product development roles? and How ISB can really help in this direction?
Thanks,
Shobhit

Could the current students throw some light on this?
Moreover is 1st and 2nd of Nov a holiday at ISB,which would mean no interviews scheduled on the 2 days?
Dear Kasish,
With respect to your interest in the media sector, here are a few facts which I hope will be helpful to you:
1. On an average about 4% of the ISB graduating class goes into the media & entertainment industry. Students from the class of 2009 who took up careers in the media industry received an average 3.2 times salary increase over what they were receiving prior to coming to ISB. For the Class of 2008, average salaries received by those who went into the media industry was Rs. 14,17,500.
2. Many of Indias top media companies hire at ISB. These include Google, HT Media Ltd, Network 18, Star India Pvt Ltd., NDTV, Infoedge India Ltd, Rediff, Ernst & Young (Media Consulting) and 9.9 Mediaworx Pvt Ltd (Media Consulting). ISB alumni hold significant positions in these companies in roles ranging from strategy, business development, product management and marketing
3. Students interested in careers in the media and entertainment industry (irrespective of whether they had media industry experience before joining ISB) find it extremely rewarding to be part of the media club at ISB. The media club is a student driven initiative and strives to engage media enthusiasts on campus and prepare them for careers in the media. For instance, this year the club organized a Media Conclave, where top industry leaders met to share their views on key trends in the media. Some of the speakers were:
Sanjeev Bhikchandani, Founder, Naukri.com
Ambareesh Murty, Country Manager, E bay India
Alok Kejriwal, Founder & CEO, Games2win
Bhaskar Das, Executive President, BCCL
Rajesh Sawhney, President, Reliance Entertainment
Other initiatives of the media club are:
Media Industry Knowledge Sessions: Top industry leaders are invited through the year to provide their perspective on the media and entertainment industry
Media Treks: Helps students increase industry interaction through treks to leading media companies to understand how they work and meet their senior management
Resume reviews and guidance by alumni working in the media industry
Media Elective: A half credit course that comprises 5 classes taken by media industry experts, which provides a practical and theoretical framework for those interested in media careers
Hope this helps!
Hi ISB Connect,
It's really wonderful to see you here helping us out.
I have a query.
My profile is:
GMAT - 710.
Acads - Avg (X-76%, XII - 67%, BE - 67%)
Work Ex - 6 years by April 2010.
Onsite exp - 3 years till now.
EC - Vice president of students federation in college, conducted many initiatives at work, participated in dance competitions in company.
I also started my own software company around 9 months back that was doing pretty well but due to some unforeseen circumstances I had to close it off recently. I do create many new ideas for business.
Can I go for entrepreneur field in ISB, even if I have pretty less experience in this field? In future I want to be entrepreneur only and not planning to opt for placements.
Won't ISB dislike me for having closed my previous venture?
