Hi,
I ve a query : who is the best person to have a recommendation letter from ? If it is the immediate boss (suppose project manager, in case i m from sw field), then its goin to create a problem.

If i go to my boss and ask for a recoom letter from him, it may create an intuition that this guy is goin to leave the organization soon and it may affect my future job at that place (in case i m not able to crack mba and have to continue job at the same place).

due to company's policy it may be possible that i m not able to get recomm letter from any client. In one of the thread, i got an answer saying that recomm letter from college/ school doesn't make good impression.

help !!!!!!

Aspire before Inspire

Most schools do accept the recommendations from client, or some person other than the manager. Like a manager from other department, or previous company who knows you well. Avoid peers.
Also if you have been out of college for more than 2-3 years, proffs reco does not carry weight.

In any case, if you are not providing your immediate managers/supervisors reco then state the reason for the same. Be frank. Adcom understands these situations.

Hi ,
I have done my Masters in Electrical Engineering in US from a reputed university(USC) and i have graduated on may 15th 2009. Our family has a construction bussiness and am jointly working with my dad in a project(national highway construction) from june 2009. I want to apply for the term 2011-12, so by april 2011 i will not have full 2 yrs experiance(will hav 22months, is this sufficient?). Now i have two questions,
1)I have worked for our company in summer 2008 when i came for my summer break for 3 months, will this experiance be valid.
2)Does Masters experiance(have worked in 8 group projects) will be counted as work experiance in any means? Does Masters degree help in the application process in any way?
Thanks

Hi guys,
Hope this is the right forum to ask this but is there any way I can get in touch with ex-ISB or even current ISB students who have 10+ years of work exp before they started the course. Preferably I'm looking for people who have worked in IT before embarking on the ISB course.

Hi ,

Please write a mail to [email protected] and ask to connect with a current student with a profile matching yours or post your queries here.
Hi, Thank you for the response to my queries. I really appreicate the initiative taken by you puys to help all ISB aspirants.

As regards the experiences, I would like to know the job propspects once they have selected a career path of their choice and the way recruiting companies look at the profile. I would also like to know the leverage that the army / navy experience gets and the level at which we join the company?

Thanking you once again....

Depends a lot on what you did in army.Army profiles are typically correlated with strong leadership skills. So you guys would get lot of leverage while applying for GM/senior management roles. Typically the folks I have met here at ISB were involved in operations related roles in army . These people either join GM level positions or operations related leadership rotational programs, which are very common here at ISB. An example of that would be the Amazon pathways program(google to find out more about it).

Probably adcom means that the enthusiasm and seriousness you displayed regarding your goals in your application was not visible during the interview . For example I guess you must have talked about your entrepreneurship goals in your application. But when adcom would have grilled you on your plans and if you werent able to answer the deeper questions, they would have concluded that you arent really serious about the venture but just writing it to get admission into ISB.

Try to get it from your client and supervisor. It adds weightage. Obviously, in case you can't get it from your current boss, try to get it from your previous boss.

Thanks,
ISB_CONNECT

Recos from client always add value. So, rather than getting it from your business partner, try getting it from your client.

Hi,
First of all thanks for starting this wonderful thread. I was always looking for some platform to resolve the queries which I have for my candiature to ISB. Here are they:
I've got 4 years of work-ex in IT consulting and some entrepreneurial experience as well, in which I managed to create and publicise a brand which is doing pretty well in the online arena. I wish to change my domain after ISB to marketing specifically to brand management. How difficult will it be for me to get started after I pass out from ISB. I know that I have the capability to perform as a brand manager and do justice to my creativity by being a brand leader in the long run. But will the comapnies give me a chance to start of?

I've seen that Hindustan Unilever, colgate, Pepsi etc come to ISB. Do they hire people for such roles (brand manager/ asstt brand manager). Do we have examples in the alumni who're doing good in the brand management field?

ZS associate does come to ISB and has hired in good numbers for past several years. We also have 6-7 past ZS employees on campus this year.

Consulting is really big at ISB and is the best place to be in Asia if you are looking to get into consulting. Following companies typically hire at ISB

A.T. Kearney,Accenture, Axis Risk consulting, ECS, Earnst & Young: Cognizant Business Consultanting, Arthur D. Little(Dubai and UK), Booz Allen Hamilton (UK) Ltd.,Global E-Procure,KPMG,Alvarez & marshal,Z S Associates, Deloitte,Concept Management,Inductis,McKinsey,Boston Consultancy,Parthenon group

Hello all,

Just like everybody else, I'm also grateful that you guys have started this initiative, it really seems to be helping us applicants.

I am from an IT consulting background and would like to switch to management consulting post ISB. Just like you broke up the different finance functional roles, can you also let us know what all is available for management consultants? Or is it just like they portray in these companies - associate, partner etc..

Also, what are the different mediums available at ISB to help in this transition?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Reposting my query.Anybody whose aware of 'Counselling drive' plz answer.

thats indeed a great initiative and i wish to extend my appreciations for the same...i am an ISB aspirant appearing for the GMAT exam in dec 2009...i have few querries which may please be resolved..

(a) I am an army short service officer serving with "Corps of Engineers" and presently on deputation with "Border Roads Organization".Will be completing my tenure in Mar 2011. Though i am a grad in "electrical Engg",my work profile is completely of "Civil Engg"....ie handling "highway engg" projects.which is the stream i should choose for my MBA. Does ISB offer a course relevant to my field and work experience.

(b) If not..which are the other schools in India and Abroad relevant to my profile which i can opt for?

(c) I had a comparatively low score in my engg ,but my work profile is good..how much is that going to help??How best can the GMAT score help me out in case of a poor grad score.???

(d) Finally, what is the cut-off score for admission into ISB???

Hi rajatchaks,

a) You can choose operations as one of the majors, but that is something which is decided after core terms. Also there are lots of engineering and construction companies visit to the campus for recruitments.
b) We dont have clear knowledge about the other schools and what schools will be suited to your needs
c) See every thing on your profile matters but weakness in some area can be compensated by strength in other. By the way a good GMAT will help to compensate bad acads.
d) There is no cut off score

Hi ISB_CONNECT,

I want to do MBA in finance and have a couple of questions regarding this -

1. From you site, I got an impression that ISB puts more stress on consulting. For example, there is a program called '
GLOBAL CONSULTING PRACTICUM' but there is no such program for finance. Could you please share some details about any special program for finance ?

2. I also want to understand the prospects of students doing MBA in finance. Could you please let me know what kind of positions are offered by recruiters to such students during placements ?

I would really appreciate your help on these queries.

Regards,
Rishabh

Hi rishi_rock,
1. See these consulting practicum is common to all i.e. there could be project on financial consulting. So it is not exactly a consulting project as it involves projects from Goldman and other big shot finance companies including MoFinance .
2. Positions vary from associate to middle level mgmt, depending upon your rlevent workex

Hi Go_Win,

this drive is to help people who have completed part of their application and stuck in middle, but have strong drive to join ISB. so its a application based help and it is taken up with a group of people and a counseller.

Hi futureisbgrad,

You rightly wrote the structure in your Query.

As long as consulting switch is concerned it is as easy/difficult as for any other switch as far as opportunities are concerned they are available in abundance and you have to make right use of resources and skills to grab one

How many girls are there in ISB? what are the chances of getting in for a girl?
