Hey ISB Connect. Sincerely appreciate the time taken to answer queries.
I am a R2 applicant and I would like to pose the following questions.
1. ISB webpage compels one to believe that ISB seeks diversity in its applicant pool, but is that diversity restricted to certain key sectors/? Coz I am a hospitality industry guy, wid experience in multiple verticals within the industry (Hotels, Travel Trade and I even operated my own home-stay, for a year and a half). The reason I pose this question is, I do not see too much participation from chaps from the hospitality industry. If possible, I would much appreciate a ballpark figure of the number of hospitality industry professionals that have graduated from ISB.
2. My managers in my previous cos have left the respective organisations, and joined new ones. Is it ok if the recommendation letters are received from their new mail ids. All of them working in new organisations.
Thanx a ton.
Hi Vivefrr,
It is true that there are not many people from hospitality industry in the current batch of ISB. And I guess the reason would be lack of both numbers and quality of applicants from that industry. Remember that though diversity is important, whats more important is the ability for the applicant to withstand the very tough rigors of the ISB program and ability of the person to get into senior management roles post ISB. So if there are more applicants from hospitality industry who meet the cut, more will join in coming years. I know there are few people in current batch who were working in hospitality sector prior to ISB. For ex I know a guy in our batch who was a "Sous Chef" at ITC. I donot have information on the alum numbers though.
I have read (dont know whether on this forum or some blog) that ISB prides itself in career switchers. Is this true? I am trying to move away from IT and want to move towards general management/ marketing (non-IT). How do recruiting firms view such a candidate? How does ISB prepare us for this move?
I have done 3 years full time diploma in mech engg after 10+2 from a reconised govt. polytechnic.I have been working in mfg industry from last 6 years. Will I eligible for ISB EMBA? (I Will give GMAT this year.)
Thanks for all the efforts in answering the questions.
I am planning to apply to ISB and wanted to know a little more about the international exchange programme. I have heard from people that every student gets a chance to make the bid for a college. I dont think i understand this well. Please could you help me understand how this works. Would we be able to choose any college from the list. I am more keen on colleges in the Uk? Also how long does the term last.

I quite did nt get your point . But about Gmat I can say that they give only those questions which are well tested in terms of standard and authenticity. So nuthing's gonna 'pop' up . But one thing without attempting the present question u cannot move to the next in Gmat. And u cant refer back to questions alreayd attempted . Cat fortunately provides these luxuries.

Could you please shed a little more light on ISB's PaeV program? Is it a course that only students opting for the entrepreneurial line take up? Or is it more of a learning experience where even students who plan to take up roles in the industry opt for? I'm asking cos I think such an experience would be great, but if its too taxing and something only people who actually want to start up can take up.. then probably its not an option for a lot of students.
Thanks!
PAEV can be taken up by anybody. Infact arnd 150+ students have taken up this 1 credit course. There is another program called "Entrep dev initiative" where you actually take your plan to VCs from top firms (arranged by ISB) and get feedback frm them. In past several students have got funding through this. Ventures selected through this initiative get 2 years of venture support from ISB including loan repayment, housing etc.

As far as the optional essay is concerned you can definitely flesh out on the gap as to why u took it ...I also had a gap after Class 12 ..but I have not filled up the optional essay..I have submitted a blank OE. But anyway in the application form you will have to mention this gap in the Class 12 space and not the undergraduate one ...This was told to me by ISB adcom ...if u want I can forward that mail to you ..send me ur id in a private message.
Hi ISB CONNECT, First, Thanks for initiative....... I did M.Sc(Organic Chemistry) and working as Research Associate in a Pharma company. I have work-ex of 5 yrs in different areas like Process Development of drugs , Medicinal Chemistry, Drug Discovery etc in reputed pharma companies. I don't have any managerial experience but guide 3 to 4 people some times.(Mostly technical managers are Ph.D holders in research industry). I have seen some Pharma companies(Dr.Reddy's, Novartis, Pfizer) and Contract research organisations(CROs)(TCG Lifesciences Ltd., Biocon)in ISB Recruiters list. It shows 11% for Pharma/Biotech/Healthcare. i.e., 55 t0 60 people from ISB.
What kind of profiles do these companies offer for ISB students? In general management, Business development or sales? Please calrify.
