No,They are not. We have ppl from 2-20 years of exp. What matters is how you have performed in your workex relative to others + other stuff like academics, ecs , leadership etc
Hi ISB CONNECT,
First, Thanks for initiative.......
I did M.Sc(Organic Chemistry) and working as Research Associate in a Pharma company. I have work-ex of 5 yrs in different areas like Process Development of drugs , Medicinal Chemistry, Drug Discovery etc in reputed pharma companies.
I don't have any managerial experience but guide 3 to 4 people some times.(Mostly technical managers are Ph.D holders in research industry).
I have seen some Pharma companies(Dr.Reddy's, Novartis, Pfizer) and Contract research organisations(CROs)(TCG Lifesciences Ltd., Biocon)in ISB Recruiters list. It shows 11% for Pharma/Biotech/Healthcare. i.e., 55 t0 60 people from ISB.
What kind of profiles do these companies offer for ISB students?
In general management, Business development or sales?
Please calrify.
yes, they offer senior management positions in general management, Business development, fin, analytics etc. Your experience would be very relevant for these roles
Hi ISB_Connect,
I am a 2011 class aspirant and after submitting my application, I am bit afraid about my GMAT score. Here is a brief of my profile:
GMAT: 710/5.5
Work-ex: 2 yrs 10 months(on April) Software Dev at IT products company (Oracle India)
Graduation: B.Tech, Computer science, IIT Roorkee
CGPA: 7.8/10 (Branch Rank:9/42)
12th: 86.6 (CBSE)
10th: 88.0
I have fair amount of extra currics in college, work place and NGOs and a lot of distinct interests. Post ISB, I am looking to join strategic consultancy and later build towards IT venture (I have a few plans)
Going through these threads has put me in a fix. Everyone is talking that coming from an IT background you should have a GMAT score of >750! I am sure about getting more than 760, if I try again but I couldn't take another shot at it because of immense work pressure.
Please let me know where do I stand with this GMAT score?
I did not talk about my poor GMAT score in the optional essay (Should I have done that?) Also, I am very focused about the career shift and enterpreneurship plans but can you suggest what areas should I focus, in case I am called for an interview!
Waiting for your reply.
Thanks!
ISB Connect,
I'd like to get your view on how rigorous the finance courses are, compared to the other programs. What do you feel about this, and what do exchange students from other schools say about this?
e.g in the US, Chicago is known to be very hardcore finance, and then maybe wharton, columbia, and Sloan. and HBS not at all.
Where does ISB fit? Is it a strong place for someone who wants to focus on Derivatives Trading? Fields like High-Frequency Trading, Statistical Arbitrage, Exotics Trading etc require quite a deep background. Does ISB have students getting placed in these fields?
Thanks!

Folks,
Can someone provide some details about the International Exchange programmes at ISB?
How many guys get selected in a particular year? What is the duration of time spent in a foreign university?
Hi ISBconnect,
ISB mentions "If you are not from a commerce background then it would be very useful for you to take up courses in subjects like economics, accounting, mathematics etc. The courses will help create a base for management education which would be useful in your programme."
What type of courses available in india to learn commerce, economics. As you know, many people who want to be in Finance are doing courses like CFA.
If I want to be in general management, what type of courses I should take?
If I want to be in Consulting, which course I can take before joining ISB ( Is distance learning consulting course offered by Zenesys worth join?)
I'm sorry if I am asking silly question. Please clarify.....
Rgds,
Ram
Thanks a lot for solution. Please do tell me one more thing. I am trying for 2011 batch. how much score is enough to get admission in ISB.
Thanks
Hi,
Just wanted to know that what is the faith of the wailists? As in what is the typical conversion? What is the no. of waitlist....
Gatty07,
Waitlists are typically converted after the second round results.
1. In case the admissions committee feels that they did not find quality candidates in the second round to fill all available seats, waitlists are called up.
2. In case an offer is made and the person chooses not to join, then again the person on top of the waitlist is given a call.
There is no 'typical' conversion rate available here to give. Sorry about that.

Ravi,
There is NO cut-off score to get admission into ISB. Adcom will look at your complete profile during the admission process.
Since you already have an MBA and work-ex post the degree, you will need to explain to the adcom why you want to do an MBA again from ISB.
We do have people who come here after doing an MBA and some work-ex as well.
Thanks

@CATastrophe1:
1. While the GMAT score at ISB is competitive, the one good thing is that they look at one's complete profile. There is no rule that says you need a certain score to get in if you have so and so background. We have people who are all over the map in such metrics.
2. Since the application process is already over, you anyway cannot change your score or the essay now. The optional essay is just that, optional. It is your call as to what you want to use it for, though its usually good to explain any unusually low scores or gaps in education etc. Or maybe some skill/quality you have that you feel did not come out in the other sections/essays in your application.
3. For interview it is your call as to what you want to talk about. What you want to get out of ISB is for you to decide. Rest assureds that you will get ample time during the interview to tell them what you want to do, be it consulting immediately and entrepreneurship in the long term.
Thanks

Bluehorseshoe,
1. I dont think any of us are qualified to comment on the relative strength or weaknesses of the finance courses at ISB as compared to other B-Schools, not having any idea of what exactly those courses comprise of.
2. If its any consolation, I havent come across any exchange students (yet!) complaining of being either under, or overloaded.
3. The course at ISB is continuously updated every year and is designed in association with the partner schools.
4. Listing of finance electives at http://www.isb.edu/PGP/ElectiveCourses.Shtml
5. We do have students who get placed in iBanking as well as jobs that involve trading with goldman, deutche, credit suisse, stanchart, sequence capital NY and few more.
Thanks

Govind,
ISB partners with more than 30 international B-Schools for its exchange program. There are around 100-105 seats available in total across all the partner schools. Of course, not everyone chooses to go on exchange to all the schools where the option is available, so some seats are left vacant.
For more on the exchange program, including details and a list of partner schools, please refer to: About the Programme, Outbound Exchange Programme - Indian School of Business (ISB)
Thanks

Ram,
Thats a suggestion for undergraduates on groundwork they may like to do depending on their interest once they graduate and start working but before they apply to ISB. By NO means is it a pre-requisite of any sort.
There are no recommendations we can give on any such courses. I would suggest just learning further about the field you are interested in and which is in your long term career plan, whether through courses or otherwise.
On another note, we do have an optional week-long pre-term (http://www.isb.edu/PGP/Pre-Term.Shtml) in Quant, Accounts and Statistics for those who want to brush up on their basics.
Thanks

Ravi,
I am sure you can find lots of resources/links etc in threads on this forum which can help you with your query.
Thanks
Dear ISB_CONNECT, my query is related to salaries. I understand that MBA is not for immediate monetary gains, however if I have to pay 30K EMI on educational loan in addition to my current housing loan EMI of 18k, then I do need to worry about it.
I have around 10yrs exp in IT. So is it reasonable to set a target of 20L post MBA? Do ppl with my exp get such salaries comfortably? I know 2009 was not a great year for placements, so can you give your reply with 2008 as reference
