After a brief stint with my first employer, I took a break for 2 years to give the civil services exams conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), New Delhi. I cleared the preliminary exam in the two attempts I took and was selected to write the main exams on both the ocsassions; do I need to provide proof for this? Where can I enter this experience as it accounts for a very significant phase of my career? I am planning to write about this in the optional essay, is there any other place I should mention this ?
Yanivins,
Please explain this in the Optional essay only. Admissions team
I am a postgraduate in engineering and have about 20+ years of experience, worked in Govt organisations in India and in start up companies in US. I have a couple of awards and certifications and good track record in extra curricular activities. But I got a low score in GMAT (550). I am planning to apply in the second cycle (November) but as I got such a low score, not sure whether to apply or just take GMAT again and plan for the next year. Please advise me.
One of my evaluators (to whom I have been directly reporting for the past 2 yrs) is about to leave the company and shift abroad around mid Oct? He has already submitted the evaluation form. At what stage would the Adcom get in touch with him? My concern is that he should be available at the contact details i have provided. What need i do, if he leaves earlier?
I have a query regarding my past work ex. Immediately after completing my MCA I joined a top IT company in India. However in around 10 months, I felt lack of job satisfaction and challenge in my work (I have genuine reasons) and without option to change departments, I was compelled to quit. I did not receive a relieving letter from the company as I quit before the stipulated contract time. However I do have enough evidence to prove my experience there.
Post this, my career saw a smooth transition upwards in a global top 3 company with a couple of promotions and awards and lots of appreciation letters both from company and clients. It would be a great help if you can let me know your opinion, if the past incident will go against me in my application. Do you feel that I should discuss the reasons for quitting the first job in the optional essay ?

I am a B.E. (Mech) from Punjab Engg. College and have 6 yrs of IT experience in Internet Banking Product (Finacle, if you have heard of) Implementation (both retail and corporate) for major Indian and foreign banks. 1. Does that provides a good enough background to choose Finance as one of the electives at ISB along with IT Management. 2. My college percentage is 71.1 (that becomes 2.1 according to the rating given by GMAT but i was ranked 13 in the class as the highest percentage was only around 80% (historical avgs. for mechanical branches have always been low, I guess). Does that become good enough reason to explain the low percentage in the additional/optional essay?
Thanks in advance, Vicky
Vicky,
1) Working on the Finacle product definitely helps you. The core banking solutions implemented gives exposure not only to the business processes of the banks but also to various banking clients and their businesses. The knowledge thus gained by interacting with various banking clients will be very handy. The finance electives at ISB will further strengthen your domain knowledge. However, Irrespective of the background one comes from he/she can pick and choose any areas of concentration that we offer. The course gives you a comprehensive knowledge of all the concentration areas. 2) Yes, you may explain your marks in the Optional essay.
The application form mentions that the passport's copy as uploaded should clearly show the date of birth, nationality, name and passport no. of the applicant. For Indian passport holders, all this information is on the inside of the front cover.
However, on a response on this thread you have mentioned that both first and last pages will need to be uploaded.
Would you please clarify whether the single page which has all this information will be sufficient, or will the front and back (2 pages each) will have to be uploaded?

Should i be targetting atleast a yr international experince to make my application strong.
Thanks for providing this great forum, it helps clear a lot of clouds. I had a query re one's marital status and its impact on getting selected at ISB. 1)Does ISB have a limit on the number of married candidates they take in each cycle? 2)Will a candidate who is married and who has just 3 years experience be at a disadvantage compared to other married and more experienced candidates? 3)In the case study essay can we also create hypothetical situations and characters in our response?

My query concerns the essays-are they expected to be self sufficient? Let me elaborate-is there a chance that the essays will be read stand-alone and not as a part of the whole application?
Can we mention certain job-related details, activities of the organizations that we occupied positions in etc. in the earlier sections and then explore them further in the essays? If we do so,and the essays are read stand-alone,they would appear too 'abrupt' (i.e. missing the background on what the project or organization was etc...)
Thank you..
Whatever little you have achieved in your life, the admissions team is interested to know. There are no set rules on how you have to write your application. You have to plan in advance on what gives a comprehensive coverage of your candidacy to the admissions officer. Please take a call on what you think makes more sense to the evaluator and then write your application.
Hello Sir, In my company, we get our salary slip online. So , I have a soft copy of it. can I directly upload the soft copy or do I need to scan and upload the printout of the soft copy of the salary slip instead ? Also, since my gross salary is not fully reflected in my salary slip, because of the part of the salary that can be claimed non-taxable against utility bills, should i upload my gross salary offer letter for FY 2008-2009?
In the application, is it enough to mention the percentage one achieved at graduation, or does it necessarily have to be converted to a CGPA and then listed. As i recall, the application clearly mentiones % or CGPA and there is a out of 100 option in the drop down box next to it, but i am getting confused since many candidates have posted that their XY% is only AB in CGPA.

Yanivins,
1) No 2) Not at all 3) It is entirely your choice. We are not looking for any right or wrong answers.
Hello Sir, Thanks for solving my query earlier on this forum. I have completed my GMAT and am in the process of completing my application. I had a question regarding recommendations- which ISB requires completion of, online. I work for a company which does not allow emails from domains other than its own. Would there be a workaround for this, as I plan to submit a recommendation from my reporting superior.
