Hello Adcom,
While submitting the application form i have come across a doubt. I am applying for scholarship / tution waiver and the instructions say "If you are applying for a tuition waiver, please also upload proof of income for your parents and spouse."
My father is a retierd person but he is getting pension and my mother is a wousewife.
Do i need to submit any income proof for my father? What would be the income proof for him (income tax returns?)
Please reply soon as i want to apply in R1.
Dear AdCom,
I'm a reapplicant, (91169), and now have a better GMAT
I want to rewrite my resume to better portray the senior leadership roles I've essayed, and highlight some points I hadn't covered earlier.
Questions:
1. Will the adcom interpret the changes in job responsibilities and achievements (earlier app vs now) as my misinforming them? In that case I dont want to risk it!
2. There's also different awards and activities to add. Is that OK?
3. There's a certification from Engineering Council, London which needs a project before its awarded. I passed all the written exams but didn't finish the project part. Shall I include it, and does it add value.
4. There are a couple of posts in pagalguy about ISB's key challenges & focus areas, posted by the adcom. Is it OK to refer to that in the essays?
5. The 300 word limit means a lot of acronyms; can I expand those acronyms elsewhere in the app?
6. I want to give webpage addresses to help the adcom get a more complete picture of my qualifications. Where should I mention them?
7. I asked for feedback on my app, and ISB was kind enough to reply (email). I also attended the information sessions. Is it OK to refer to these interactions or will a completely different set of people read & evaluate the essay part?
Hi Team,
I appeared for my GMAT thrice have got following scores:
- Test on 1 Aug'07 - 660. This score was NOT sent to ISB.
- Test on 26 Sept'07 - 700. This score was NOT sent to ISB.
- Test on 1 Sept'08 - 680. This score has been sent to ISB.
I want to know that whether ISB already received my highest score (i.e. 700), or do I need to resend it to them by ordering an additional score report?
Thanks a lot for your time.
Regards,
Chirag
Dear Adcom
Thanks for answering our specific queries.
One of my evaluators (to whom I have been directly reporting for the past 2 yrs) is about to leave the company and shift abroad around mid Oct. He has already submitted the evaluation form. At what stage would the Adcom get in touch with him? My concern is that he should be available at the contact details i have provided. What need i do, if he leaves earlier?
Thanks and regards
Saahas
Dear Sir,
This is Neha. I am a interested in the 2009-10 Batch of ISB.
I am working and currently out of country, Please tell me how can i proceed with the application process. Do we have to appear in person for the interveiw? Can we use some online tools for the same?
Dear Mr.Menon,
Firstly, I thank ISB and you for taking up this initiative to help answer to queries of prospective applicants.
I would like to know the criterion with which you evaluate applicants who have the requisite work experience, i.e., 2 years and more, in their own family business organization. More specifically if the applicant has a science / engineering under-graduate qualification but starts off his/her work career with the family run business (Manufacturing / Trading / both), which may or may not have a requisite of a similar science / technical degree as an under-graduate qualification which the candidate has.
Secondly, If in the case as above, the candidate has worked with his father and learnt many salient aspects of running a business / negotiating deals / managing banking / operations from the start upto the completion of a contract and the various and numerous other aspects of managing the operations of a business, what kind of recomendations would you suggest the candidate to obtain from the people he/she has dealt with in the course of 3-4 years of being a part of the family business.
Thirdly, I would like to know if having good acedemic grades from high school, higher secondary and college will play a role in evaluating such a candidate who ends up starting of his working career in a feild which had no relation what-so-ever to his acedemic qualifications.
Kindly bear with me for asking so many queries, but my last question is that, if the candidate feels the need to move and grow out of the functioning in his family business and wishes to pursue an MBA at ISB, for the main purpose to interact with and learn from people of varied backgrounds and profiles, and thereafter not necessarily join back the Family Business but look towards working for a few years in a more professionally managed organization of an industry type similar or non-similar to the family business, with the intention of learning the various different functionalities / diverse working cultures / decision making patterns / etc and then maybe look to start-off his own business or join back the family business to add more value to it to take it to higher levels, do you think ISB will be helpful for such a candidate to pursue his career vision and also do you think such a candidate will be a useful profile to add to the list of students of ISB?
I hope to receive your valuable opinion and feedback on my queries and apologize if you feel I have asked you too many questions.

any other inputs to improve profile would be good for me.
Ashish,
1) International exp only gives you a slight advantage. We have a large number of students with only domestic work exp.
2) Community service does add strength to your application but if you do not have any then nothing can be done about it. Make sure that you work hard on other parts of your application.
3) It does not matter whether you work with a big NGO or not, what matters is the work.

Hello Sir,
In my company, we get our salary slip online. So , I have a soft copy of it. can I directly upload the soft copy or do I need to scan and upload the printout of the soft copy of the salary slip instead ?
Also, since my gross salary is not fully reflected in my salary slip, because of the part of the salary that can be claimed non-taxable against utility bills, should i upload my gross salary offer letter for FY 2008-2009?
Regards,
Sumedha
Sumedha,
You can directly upload your salary slip but it needs to be in a jpeg format. We only need your latest salary slip. There is another field where you can mention your gross ctc.

Dear Adcom,
In the application, is it enough to mention the percentage one achieved at graduation, or does it necessarily have to be converted to a CGPA and then listed. As i recall, the application clearly mentiones % or CGPA and there is a out of 100 option in the drop down box next to it, but i am getting confused since many candidates have posted that their XY% is only AB in CGPA.
Thank you
Nishant Khanna
Nishant,
You need not convert your marks into CGPA, you can state them as percentages.

Dear Sir,
For self employed candidates there is a provision to enter the employment details of other organizations too if they work with more than one organization. While I enter the other employment details and save it and the details get saved properly but I don't see that in the preview application. Can you please let me know if adcom reviews the preview application that we see or do they directly see the fields that we enter in the application form.
Thanks
Nikil
Nikil,
We will directly see the fields mentioned in the application form.

Hello Sir,
Thanks for solving my query earlier on this forum. I have completed my GMAT and am in the process of completing my application. I had a question regarding recommendations- which ISB requires completion of, online. I work for a company which does not allow emails from domains other than its own. Would there be a workaround for this, as I plan to submit a recommendation from my reporting superior.
Bc2008,
There are two options either you request your IT staff to include [email protected] in their domain list or you can opt for an offline evaluation.

Vsriv,
1) You can mention the changes in job responsibilities and achievements.
2) Yes, you can make additions to this section also.
3) It will add value if you complete it. You can explain about it in the Optional essay.
4) It is entirely your call.
5) You need not expand the acronyms anywhere in the application.
6) Why do you want to give webpage addresses for qualification section? The various fields in the qualification section give you enough option and if something is not covered there, then you can always mention it in the Optional Essay.
7) It is fine if you want to refer to these interactions.
