Ive always been very interested in ISB but am feeling very intimidated by the exp of many applicants. I have 3.5 yrs (till dec 0 with Hewlett Packard of IT exp.Pretty good exp in the sense lots of role evolving has happened and am doing a Analyst role now. My GMAT is scheduled for Nov 1st week. My ques is even if i get a pretty good score say 700+ would i stand any chance of getting a call atleast?
Pls let me know and ease my tension
Raghu,
You need not worry on this end at all. In the current batch, we have more than 50 percent students with work exp between 2-5 years.
I am in my final year of B.E. (CSE). Conversations with lots of people in the industry and academia has convinced me of the fact that an MBA after work-ex is the way to go. So I have become a longterm ISB aspirant, of late.
Here's my profile. 10th - 90.8% 12th - 85.8% Grad - 70% (hope to jack it up a bit further) from an unknown Govt. College Extracurrics - Average Job offer after Grad - TCS @ 3.6 lpa
Here are my queries:
1. I have a deep-rooted interest in quizzing and creative writing. And I want to make a career in one of my hobbies after rejecting the offer from TCS, which is surely going to make me another brick in the wall. But some people say that quizzing and creative writing jobs not only pay you less but are less respected by AdComs since you don't generally rise to decision-making roles in such jobs in 2-3 years. I dont think the position improves in IT jobs but still, atleast IT joba are the most accepted ones. So, I need advice on what to do post-grad : try to make a career out of my hobby or follow the beaten IT track, before applying to ISB? Also, what will be the consequences of this decision on the job profile that I get post-MBA?
2. What is the importance of social service in the ISB admission process? I have done my bit during my grad but haven't got any certificates to show for it, all I can muster is some appreciation letters. Will that hold or do I need to work at places like Greenpeace?
3. What else can I do (other than a >750 GMAT score and good essays, recos) to make my profile stronger?
Thanks-a-ton in advance.
Abhishek,
1) We will suggest that you follow your heart and do what you really wish to. A half hearted stint in IT will not take you a long way. Post MBA opportunities are in abundance for both IT as well as non-IT background students. This will also depend on how you wish to take your career ahead.
2) Social service forms an important part of your application. It does not matter whether the organisation is big or small, what matters is the work you have done. Certificates of appreciation will suffice.
3) Please work on your leadership, communication and analytical skills.
Earlier I have asked a question concerning the placement trends and how to read into the latest placement trends at ISB. I had referred to 2008 placements where in 80% of the candidates had successfully managed to switch careers post-ISB MBA. But there was not any response to my query. Please reply if you had missed on that earlier.
Also, my second query was regarding rolling out of interview calls and the expectected interiew dates for International candidate (The Telephonic interviews).
Please reply if you had missed out on my queries earlier.

Hello, After my B.Tech from IIT and MS from University of Michigan, I worked as a researcher at Univ. of Michigan for 1.5 years and have been working as a business analyst in India for 6 months. I got a GMAT score of 770 and am therefore considering applying to ISB in round 2, if my experience is considered to be adequate. Will my research experience of 1.5 years count towards the 2 year requirement? Thank you for taking time out to answer these queries of ours.
I am planning to apply in round 2. I have 2+ work-experience in IT. In my company I am working along with the quality department and wants to build up my career in this direction only. It would be great help if you can just tell about some specific electives related to this field offered by ISB and what all career opportunities could be in this field for an ISB student.
I am an R1 applicant. I recently got another surprise salary revision for exemplary performance in my current role- after submitting my R1 application.
Is it possible to update my Gross/CTC salary in the application?
have all the shorlist mails for the Mumbai inteviews been send or this process is still going on...i am a mumbai applicant and haven't recieved any mail yet ..it would be great if you can clarify this.
I had already appeared in Interview at Delhi today morning. just wanted to ask that whether the admission offers will start coming after all interviews get over at all the centres?

Ankit,
All the selected and non-selected applicants have been notified. However, there are some applicants who have been put on waitlist, no mails have been sent to them. We will inform them about their final status in a few days.

Hello Sir, I am an R1 applicant. I am from Pune and my Interview center is Hydrabad. In an earlier post you mentioned that the results for Hyd center will be out latest by 25 Oct. I will be travelling extensively that week, so it will be really helpful if you could tell on which tentative dates interviews for Pune candidates will be held. It will help me plan my travel better.

Hello Sir Please find below my query on placement i posted earlier
On surfing the ISB site for latest placement trends, I see some encouraging news for aspirants planning to switch either their industry or function or both post-mba from ISB. The pie-chart and other graphs did gave a glimpse of the last season's placement trend but I was particularly interested in people making a switch from IT to Investment Banking. I have already applied in Round 1 for the 2009-10 session and waiting for the next step. Your reply on this highly appreciated as that will help me a lot in matching my expectations post-ISB.
Is there any disadvantage of going for telephonic interview rather than personal interview? Apart from obvious disadvantage, what is ISB's line of thinking about it?
