Sir,
I have around four years experience and a very good gmat score. What is really backing me is my under graduate maarks since I had a tough time in completing it. Can you tell me how far it is going to affect my admission?
Please refer to Page no. 8

I totally understand sir. Thank you so much.
Dear Sir,
I have a question regarding employment history. Do we have to submit any proof for all the previous employments mentioned in the application form? If yes, then what is the proof?
Thank you for answering my previous questions.
I have a query regarding class 10 and 12 percentages. I had schooling in the ICSE board and in this board, the normal practice is to not mention a percentage figure in the final mark sheet. At the back of the pass certificate, it is mentioned that to pass standard 10, one must pass English and any 4 subjects, and to pass standard 12, one needs to pass in English and any 3 subjects. Now, in both the board exams, I took 6 subjects. Since the board never mentions percentage, it was a normal practice in my school, that the percentage for class 10 was calculated taking English and best 4 subjects, while the percentage in class 12 was calculated taking English and best 3 subjects. Should I report the percentages like this, or should I calcuate among all 6 subjects?
Mr Menon,
Since, the min experience required for ISB is only yrs, i am very keen to know the value add of doing MBA @ ISB for mid-senior level managers, with 10+ Industry experience. Whats the % of exp folks in ISB and what kind of placements, lateral shifts, Role changes, these students could get?
Regards,
KB
Hello Mr. Menon,
Thank you and your team for this opportunity to clarify our queries.
I would like your help with couple of questions I have.
1. I have completed my Diploma In Mechanical Engineering and am in my 11th year of employment in a fairly senior position (Client relations and Operations Management) with a Multinational. I wish to enhance my academics with a Management program. I have visited the Selection Criteria section on the ISB website. It reads:
11) I have completed a three year diploma course but do not have an under-graduate degree. Am I eligible for the ISB Programme?
The eligibility criterion at the ISB requires all students to have an undergraduate degree. If your diploma is considered to be equivalent to a degree by the appropriate authorities then it will be acceptable otherwise not.
Who can I get in touch with at ISB to get clarity on my eligibility regarding academic qualifications?
2. Would you recommend someone with my kind of background to enroll into a fulltime course? Honestly, Im quite inclined to do so.
Thanks,
Sunil Nair.
Hello Mr. Menon,
I am applying to ISB for 09-10 term. I am currently working as a mechanical engineering consultant (2.5 yrs exp) serving the energy sector. I plan to switch to finance/I-banking/PE and I am especially interested in the Energy Finance sector. In the past two years, I have been working on developing a background in finance through community college courses, Online material, CFA program, investing, etc. My questions are
1. How easy is it for ISB grads to change careers without an internship.
2. I heard there is a consulting project going on throughout the year . Is it seen among the recruiters as a sufficient substitute for Internship experience.
3. What are the common positions that career-switchers get into immediately upon graduation - specifically in finance
4. Do you track, in anyway, the career progression of your alumni.
5. Are there specific criterion used to distribute need based scholarship - like the parent's salary, etc. Is it a fixed amount?
Regards
Ravi
Hi Mr Menon,
Are the recomendations scanned for the dates in which they were made i.e. would a recomendation written a year back be considered or only recommendations dated the last 2-3 months would be considered.

Dear mbaqueries,
Last year a total of 5 PE firms came on campus and made 7 offers. Listing the names of the companies on a discussion forum will not be ethical on our part. For more details, please call us at +91 40 2318 7474.

Hello Sir,
I have a query with regard to re-applicants.
Do I have to submit the recommendations again ?
I choose to ask this question because there will be not any change in the recommenders in my case. Can i choose to refer to older recommendations ? or Do i have to submit the complete application with fresh recommenations inspite of having the same people recommending me ?
regards,
Neo
Neo,
If you were an applicant for the batch of 2008-09, you may use the same recommendations this year also by checking the relevant box in the evaluator details page of the online application. However, it is always recommended to use fresh evaluations to get more insights into any of your recent initiatives, skill sets and changes in profile.

Vivek,
No, you need not submit proof for all the previous employments. Only the latest salary slip of your current job is required.

Dear Sir,
I think you missed my question on Page 17. It was regarding previous employment
Hello Sir,
Its great to see your proactiveness in addressing the queries. Would like to know a few things:
I am a software engineer with a leading MNC in gurgaon. These days a lot of software companies keep employees on "bench" for a long time i.e., don't allot them projects for a long time. Does that count as a valid work-ex? After all that's also a full time employment.
As for me, I joined the company in August 2007 and willing to apply in ISB for the batch starting in 2009. Was on bench for 4 months, after which I was allocated a project. Though I was in the project, I had practically no work to do as the project was over with development phase:banghead:. In fact, every member in the project was practically free. Though I was allotted some excel sheet work by my project manager(which are done by the PA to the project manager and which gave me little insights into how a project is run and how he used to handle things etc;)), I had little technical exposure which a software engineer must have (Though I utilized the time in my mba entrance preparation). Things are going to continue in the same way as the project is far from getting over and the only way out of this is to leave the project, which anyway, would end me up on bench:huh:. No scope of company switch due to the little tech-exposure thing mentioned.
So I'm a little sceptical about the strength of my application at ISB, having heard that an experience in IT is already valued less than normal, with India churning out thousands of software engineers:idea:. Please advise me with a practical approach whether applying to ISB, which has a cut throat competition, makes sense. I'm taking GMAT in october(for II round), passed out of NIT(2007) with Metallurgical.
Expecting your early reply.....
Thanks!

Sudhir,
- To be eligible to apply, you will need to obtain a certificate from World Education Services (http://www.wes.org ) to the effect that your diploma course is equivalent of a Bachelors Degree. You can contact us at +91 40 2318 7474.
- Yes, I will definitely recommend that you apply. We have many students with 10+ years of work exp.

If I may, I wld advise you to review your application. You will not have the required amount of work-ex to apply to ISB in the first place. Secondly, ISB receives applications from students who seem to average 5yrs of work-ex. As you yourself have said, you've had very little work to do. Even though you are fully employed, you have probably not learnt much. Work-ex is not about putting in time at an office but about learning. That learning and experience is reflected in your essays. Without that, your essays would not present a compelling reason for you to get invited.
Student profile at ISB is extremely competitive and i'm afraid it would be a waste of your time to apply to ISB.
B-school is also about learning from your classmates. Would you honestly want yourself as a classmate?/
Finally, please refrain from using smileys when talking to the Admissions Director of any b-school. Even though this is a forum, Admissions/Questions is serious business and it reflects badly on you.

Ravi,
- Please refer to page no. 3 of this thread.
- What you are referring to is called the Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) at ISB. Yes, it is considered a very good substitute for Internship by the recruiters. In fact many students get Pre-placement offers by these companies during the ELP. For more details on ELP, please visit the link http://isb.edu/pgp/experientiallearningprogramme.shtml
- They start as Associates.
- No, we do not track the career progression of our alumni. However, we have an alumni database where the alumni can update their profile and contact information. All current students are given access to this database.
- Yes, parents and spouse salary details (in case of Male applicant) are considered before giving need based scholarships. The amount varies from Rs. 1-3 lacs.
