hats off to your patience man

Ppl here are getting calls after hitting the submit button thats really making me nervous
I was thinkin i have a decent profile etc.
But i think i have to give a second thought to the list of colleges I am thinkin of applying

thanks man. But do you have any idea whether Ivey dings people by sending an email or a regular mail? I've contacted Ivey about few days ago to ask them whether they have received my GMAT score, the lady told me that yes she even printed my GMAT score and my file is currently being reviewed by the admissions committee. That was back on the 1st or 2nd of november. I just hope that she was telling me the truth rather than just trying to buy some more time until the ding letter arrives to my post box....lool...

guys...i m also waiting for a response..had my interview on october 5th.THe point is,even if you do get in..the problem would be to arrage the cost of the MBA,around 43 lakhs. At the end of the day,I feel that Ivey is the costliest MBA in canada, almost same as that of rotman...the tution fees for rotman is arounf 89 as against that of ivey ( 74 ).But again, you have 3 months internship at rotman and manys tudents get schlorships in the second year, bursalaries and as it is a 2 year mab, people work on campus too...however for ivey none of the above options are feasible...just my two cents....

but that's also really strange considering the fact that when I checked with Ivey's main website where I inputted my details to see whether I would fit with Ivey (the part that asks about my GMAT score, whether I have strong team work, relationship with customers, career goals, etc), I received the feedback "Congratulations, you are an excellent fit for Ivey", and yet I'm not getting any response from them.

So I don't know what to believe anymore....

but how long did you have to wait to receive your interview invite after you had submitted your application?

dude...thts an automated reply system to push anyone and everyone who satify the bare minimum to apply...marketing strategy...there are a huge number of indian applicants to Ivey this year..so the competition is tough...

i submitted my application in first week of september and got and interview invite on 28th i guess..but again that time was not the peak season..now a lot mabny applications are being sent..try and work on the other apps...take your mind off..as it is,theres nothing that you cud do now than waste precious time, which could be used to complete ur other apps..

coming to my question, incase you do get it,how do you plan to pay for the MBA ?

well, i'm an indian who already has a Canadian permanent residence. So that should facilitate my chances to get a loan from the Canadian banks. Are you trying to say that it's more difficult to get in when you're an Indian?? Is it really that competitive to apply as an Indian? So what if an applicant is from other geographic areas such as Africa, Europe, or Middle East? Will such people have it easier than us to get in because they're not from such a competitive profile as Indians are? wow....

well..I think i should elaborate...onw of the main points that a college boasts about is diversity of profile, because having diversity during the MBA class in itself means that the students graduating from the program are very much attuned to working in multicultural team, which is paramount for businesses today...so in a class of say 75,Ivey traditionally has got around 7/10 % Indians who r coming to Ivey on a students visa..dunno whether this includes landed immigrants...pls check the placement stats for tht....hope this helps...

I honestly don't think that those 7% indians that you're speaking of include the landed immigrants. the reason why I don't think so is that when I take a look at the tuition fees, they segregate between domestic students and international students. They consider the domestic students to be both the Canadian citizens and the permanent residents. So unless I'm wrong, this suggests to me that the landed immigrants are classified as "Candians" from the point of view of student profiling at Ivey.

then that is good for both of us.. 😃 ...

yes i understand that, but are you saying that there are more indians applying to Ivey than other internationanl students in general? that would be interesting to know because I honestly never knew that if it were true.

While this is all true, Ivey is still more "recognized" in Canada and seen as being more prestigious than Rotmans. It also places more people and the avg. salary is higher. I have been living in Canada my whole life and Ivey/Rotmans are by far the 2 besr schools in Canada, but Ivey seems to slightly edge them out year after year.

Ivey also used to be a 2 year program with a summer internship and found that only about 10-13% student went back to the internship employer. Hence why they made it a 1 year now.

Ivey was the first established business school in Canada and has a long-standing network within the Canadian market. Rotman's brand has really started to come up ever since Roger Martin became the dean of that program. U of T is considered the best university in Canada and that's something that has played into Rotman's rise. I do agree that Ivey probably has the upper hand on Rotman for the time being, but that gap has narrowed significantly over the years. Rotman has started to build some really close ties with the financial sector in Toronto (hence why there's the notion out there that Rotman is a better option if you want to head into finance).

Regardless, you can't go wrong with either Ivey or Rotman. Bay St. is littered with alumni from those two schools.

I agree that the line between Ivey/Rotmans is VERYYYY thin. I would prob. give Ivey the edge in regards to consulting and Rotmans the edge in finance. But as you mentioned, both top notch schools. Every year they are either 1st or 2nd in Canadian rankings...and you cannot go wrong with either. It is all all matter of preference.

I personally feel strongly that Ivey's career centre is very good at placing ppl without an internship, especially in the consulting field.
