Ivey Mba

Congrats Adam! Awesome news. Great way to finish off the year. :-)
Congrats to you too, dstylez!

Hey Adas,
Ivey, Best School...

Thats a good question to ask after getting admitted??:grin:

K now to the actual answers...

Ivey has a got a reputation in consulting industry in Canada and believe me its hard to break it. Even York and Schulich have not been able to anywhere close to it.
The major factor being its teaching style and closeness to toronto.
Secondly, Ivey vs.Rotman.... its a very interesting discussion
Rotman - Best in Finance but post the 2008 debacle the market is down for Rotman though considering the future it may bounce back
Ivey- Despite the problems has maintained the reputation. Main reason is the trend in consulting , which hasnt gone down but on the contrary the opportunities have grown up specially in risk analysis consulting and strategy consulting among other forms of consulting business.

Thirdly, Ivey has in the last 10 years brought up its rankings pretty good something like ISB and Duke but Ivey is a heavy regional school and pretty decent on it.

These are few key areas that i researched upon . i know this is not comprehensive but i guess makes up for what is required...
Adas. Hope u ll not be deferring and will be joining....

Hehe, to be honest I'm set on Ivey. I was just curious what the opinions were out there...it's interesting that the schools can leave such different impressions on people. You're not the first one to tell me that Queen's left a bad taste in your mouth, dstylez. Whereas I was really given the royal treatment to come out and interview with them and they really talked up the team-based nature of their program, which I bought into to an extent.

Nevertheless, there seems to be no question - Based on everything I've read and the conversations I've had in business circles in Toronto and Montreal, Ivey is the top MBA school in Canada, period. They have really carved out a niche for themselves with the case-based curriculum and the fact that they are a one year program now makes them even more marketable.

I'm very grateful to be given the opportunity to earn my MBA there. GBH and everyone else on the waitlist - I wish you guys a speedy, favourable response. Don't lose hope!

To those accepted - are you guys active on any other forums? I checked the facebook group, but no one is posting there :(

Godbole and Adas,

Thank you for your insights on Ivey, they are quite helpful. My 2 cents:

Though I agree that Ivey is the topmost, but I think Queen's is not far behind. They have a very innovative curriculum and methodology that focuses on personal development. They give freedom to their faculty to chose their teaching method which brings out the best in the faculty. I believe where Queen's lacks substantially vis-a-vis Ivey is their Career Management - in which Ivey is far far ahead. Once Queen's gets it's act together on career management, it will be as successful, if not more, as Ivey. I have applied to both schools and if I am lucky/competent enough to get an admit from both and if I make a choice, I cannot go wrong either ways. Another thing that will impact decisions for folks like me will be the expenses, whoever hands out more aid/scholarship, will be a favorable choice.

For now, it's clear that competition in Ivey - specially amongst Indians - is very high. This school is becoming as popular as some of the top US Schools and it's always great to have an alternative. Personally I feel traditional 2 year US programs have become monotonous and these 1 year programs at Canadian and European schools are much more exciting and attractive from all perspectives.

To all who have applied at Ivey or Queen's or any business school in this whole wide world, good luck and god speed.

I have a similar feeling with regards to Ivey and Queen's being the top two schools in Canada...

With regards to Indians in those two programs, I visited both and sat in on classes and met many more Indians at Queen's than at Ivey...

Hi Adas

Congrats on getting admit to Ivey...

Whats ur profile?

Bobby

Godbole and Adas,
Thanks for your insights..
And from few of my interactions with students and forums... I believe Ivey to be the No 1 Canadian school, followed by Queens.

Hi Guys
I had my interview on 28th Nov in India, Do you think it wud be right to drop them a mail
asking them whether the results will be out before Christmas holidays or not?

I was told that the results would be out by the R2 deadline. My interviewer Jenni Denniston mentioned this to me.

Hey Guys,

Adas, congrats once again on your admit!

As for the #1 school in canada talk, it is hard to say overall since they are all good in different industrys. When it comes to finance/investment banking, I would prob. place rotmans at the top b/c is seems all the big banks hire from them first. Ivey is top for consulting and Queens for general/tech MBA. This is just what I get from talking to people and online research. But I do think Ivey has the strongest brand recognition in Canada.

Either way, with Ivey, Queens or Rotmans, you cannot go wrong. It's all a matter of preference and what you make of the MBA program yourself. Quality wise, they are all top notch and it if hard to rank the 3 overall without mentioning what they specialize in.

Thank you very much!

I have a BBA from a Canadian university and 3 years of work experience in marketing, advertising, sales, and project management. I presently work in a small advertising agency in Toronto. I scored 620 on the GMAT and my extra curriculars centered around volunteer work I do at an arts institution in Toronto. I am a dual Polish and Canadian citizen.

Hi!
I had applied in Round 2 just a couple of days before the deadline. Got interviewed on 26th Nov and got a call from Niki today. Do you guys know if the scholarship information is provided on the phone itself or it comes in the admissions package? Moreover, when does the application package arrives after Niki's call?
My states - M/29/680GMAT/8 years experience/strong extra-curricular.

Hi Maddee

Congrats on your admit...
Well you from IT background or non IT background?
Regards
Bobby

Potential Ivey Students,

I spent the entire sunday reading Adventures in B-School (MBA) ..awesome blog on ivey experiences with a personal touch. A sunday well spent, now if only I could get an admit 😃

Yes, IT background. Do you guys know about scholarship as I was asking ? I got the call on Friday and wasn't told anything on scholarship front. So wondering whether that's usual or its a sign that I haven't got any?

They will let you know about any Ivey scholarships when you receive your mail package.
