Scoring well in the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) 2016 is no mean feat. However fear not, because though it touted as one of the toughest entrance exams, it still can be tackled with a few tricks up your sleeve. And no, we do not mean ways to cheat but simple tips to keep anxiety at bay.

PaGaLGuY spoke to Nitin Vijay, Managing Director of Motion Eduventures, for his take on keeping stress  on hold . Read on.

" Keep all formulas written down somewhere handy. This will be a quick way to glance through the topics before the actual exam. Don't make a mess of your syllabus. Keep things in order. It will reduce your hassles to a great extent.

Attempt whatever you are confident with at first. Some students prefer to attempt the paper by starting with Chemistry, and then solve Math and Physics. This decision is, however, yours to take. Attempt that subject which is your strength. If you are confident with all your concepts, don't dwell too much on the order. Take a call after you go through the entire paper once in the beginning.

Mock tests are crucial. It will give you an idea of what to expect in the actual exam. This will greatly reduce your anxiety itself. It will also help you in knowing your short comings.

You need to make a conscious effort of keeping track of your speed and accuracy while solving the mock papers. This analysis will help you upgrade yourself.

Keep Calm. Everyone around will be anxious, especially parents, but what purpose does that solve? Positivity plays a great role in keeping yourself prepared for the worst case scenario. It is not the end of the road, if you don't score well. It is perfectly fine as there are plenty of options available. Keeping an open mind and positive thoughts will keep ease the pressure of the exams.

All work and no play will definitely make the process of studying boring. Take time to hang out with peers, but do not discuss studies, whatsoever. Ensure to spend the time indulging in games and other hobbies.

Last few days are to clear the slightest doubts you may have. Irrespective of how big or small, approach the professors to clear it out. Never enter the exam hall with a doubtful mind. Also, try to avoid learning anything new just before the exams.

On the day of the exam, don't not try asking your friends about how much they have prepared. Focus all energy on yourself and the paper you shall attempt. Unnecessary small talk will not boost your confidence in any manner.

The first thing all of you would do, once you have finished your paper, would be to discuss the questions. You shall know the answers when the answer key will be released. Wait patiently until then.

ORS is most important in JEE Advanced exam

A defining feature of JEE Advanced exam is the Optical Response Sheet (ORS). ORS is the paper which holds answers to a candidate's future. ORS consists of two pages with the same layout. First page is where students mark their answers. Second page of the ORS is given to students at the end of the exam by the invigilator.

So, it is important that answers are marked by putting adequate pressure so as to leave an impression on the second page. Also bear in mind not to disturb alignment of the two pages. Only BLACK Ball point pen or pencil can be used to mark your answers on the ORS.

Students should mark their responses carefully. Blackening the bubbles on ORS, simultaneously as you solve the paper is an advice that Prof A. K. Srivastava of Brilliant Institute, New Delhi always gives to his students.

During the conduct of the exams, candidates are given original admit card after their identity is verified by invigilators and IIT representatives.

On May 22, there are three important things to be carried to exam hall-

- Printed copy of downloaded Admit Card

- Original photo identity proof

- Black Ball point pen

Kota hosts JEE Mains but misses out on JEE Advanced

The coaching capital has played host to JEE Mains for three years in a row now. But it has once again been denied the pleasure of holding JEE Advanced 2016.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) used to conduct IIT-JEE in the town till 2010 but dropped it from the list of examinations centers in 2011, without citing any official reason. In 2014, the Board chose Kota to hold JEE Mains here.

Interestingly, the cities hosting JEE Advanced have doubled in Rajasthan. The Board has recently released the list of cities in the state where JEE Advanced will be held on May 22, 2016. The list includes Alwar, Jaipur, Sikar, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bhilwara, Tonk, Pali, and Barmer. Last year, JEE Advanced was held only in five cities - Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Sikar, and Udaipur.

Kota alone boasts of 36,000 JEE Advanced aspirants this year, and they are upset at the coaching hub being given a miss. An aspirant Pallavi Kumari said that students like her would have benefitted if Kota had examination centers for JEE Advanced. "I will have to travel to another city to take the exam," she complained.

The coaching institutes are not amused either. Brajesh Maheshwari, Director of Allen Career Institute, Kota, said, "There are many aspirants from Kota, who will be taking the examination this year. It would be a problem for them to travel to other cities in the sweltering heat." Shailendra Maheshwari, Director, Career Point Institute, was surprised at Kota not making it to the list of examination centers. "Kota has successfully hosted JEE Mains and other medical entrance examinations over the years. It would have been convenient for thousands of Advanced aspirants to appear at any local exam center in Kota. It would save time," he said.

Coaching centres have become a hugely successful business in India today. But, is it absolutely necessary for a student to successfully crack the IIT JEE? After all, it is the student himself or herself who preps for the course, with or without the coaching centre. Important advice about to know  JEE Mains and NEET Exam.

A student needs to understand that JEE and NEET are two completely different examinations meant for different undergraduate courses. Joint Entrance Examination is meant for admissions into engineering field whereas National Eligibility cum Entrance examination is for admissions into medical courses.

• JEE tests the knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. NEET paper comprises of Physics, Chemistry and Biology section.

• JEE is conducted into 2 phases- Main and Advanced in completely computer-based mode. NEET is a one-shot paper held in pen-paper mode.

• Only NCERT books of Physics and Chemistry are the common books in both the paper. I would not recommend you to read any other JEE Main books for NEET because the JEE paper is quite analytical and different. The level of questions is not even similar.

• For NEET you should refer to first NCERT books and then move on to your coaching notes/video lectures and reference books that you mentor has suggested. Regarding JEE, you will require practicing numerous questions from different reference books.

• If you look and compare the previous year question papers, you will get an idea of how the pattern and level of questions changes.

With just a few days remaining for JEE Main May attempt, you should start revising your syllabus from hand-written notes and NCERT books. NEET is scheduled on 5th May so, at this point, start solving previous year question papers and watch out their solutions for building a problem-solving strategy.
